The songs for New Moon haven’t been nailed down yet—the flick is still in preproduction after all—but do I have some gossip on the movie anyway? You bet.First, some background. When it comes to Twilight’s soundtrack, you may credit legendary music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, who has also curated the music for TV shows The OC, Roswell, Chuck, Mad Men and Without a Trace. Patsavas is also on board to supervise the sound for New Moon. Now the gossip…
The new director, Chris Weitz, has been sending out signals that he may be open to a more experimental soundtrack than his predecessor. That could mean songs that sparkle even more than the movie’s vampires when they get caught in the sun.
“I think that might be the way it’s going,” says Marisa Baldi, West Coast partner for Zync, a music brokerage that funneled two songs onto the Twilight soundtrack. “I get the vibe that the guy is a little more into being surprised…everything is really open, and he wants to hear a lot of cool music.”
The process for choosing the final music list works like any movie. First, bands or their managers approach a music brokerage, such as Zync. Zync then works to place songs in films, film trailers or commercials.
In the case of a feature film, the brokerage chats with a film’s music supervisor, gets a feel for the film and then sends out compilations of suggested tracks. The Twilight song “Full Moon” by the Black Ghosts was a hit with Patsavas right away.
“It was on the very first compilation I sent her for the film,” Baldi recalls.
As for Patsavas, I interviewed her awhile ago about her search process. “We sort of put in one CD at a time,” Patsavas explained to me at the time. “Maybe we don’t play a CD all the way through, but we do give everything a try.”

I’ve noticed a lot of people asking about how to submit music for the New Moon soundtrack. At least now we know a little more about the process. I like knowing Chris wants to experiment with the New Moon soundtrack. What do you think? What type of music do you hope to hear on the New Moon soundtrack? Same as with Twilight, or a totally different sound?

I would absolutely love if Paramore made it onto the New Moon soundtrack, as well. :] There songs just hold the right atmosphere for New Moon and their lyrics are just so well suited for the book. ^^
I, too, would like to hear more of Paramore and Muse, as well as Mute Math. Would you think that “New Moon” is a “dark” novel? Bella’s heart is shattered and she goes into a whirlwind of “not-being-there-not-wanting-to-be-alive”…then suddenly she is “awakened”. Kinda dark, sad music (??) We all have our ideas of what types of music should be on the soundtrack. Could we FEED our thoughts to Chris?
I think Flyleaf’s “All Around Me” should be on there. It would be perfect.
I think When it rains is a prfect song for whe he leaves her and fences is pretty good for when shes in her “zombie” faze

I want more of a darker sound, like Within Temptation or Evanesense (or however you spell it)

I think the majority of the soundtrack should be chosen from the playlist Stephenie Meyer put up, I listened to each soundtrack while reading each book and I think she did a pretty good job picking songs that fit the characters’ moods. New Moon’s soundtrack was probably my favorite, with BD’s coming in a close second. I especially think Muse - Sing for Absolution, Coldplay - The Scientist and Blue October’s “Sound of pulling heaven down” (and Hate Me) are great. ooh, also, Evanescence - My Immortal and Hoobastank - The Reason are good… those arent normally songs I would listen to, but they fit perfectly.
There are a few musts in my opinion, Iron & Wine, Muse, and Paramore (and maybe dare I say it… RP?!)I like the idea of experimenting but, I don’t want it to go to far and not fit as closely to the movie as did Twilight.. BUT this is their job, they can handle it right?? lol all this talk gets me sooo excited for NM!!!! I’ve already printed a NM countdown for the tentive release date of Nov. 20th!! I soo can’t wait.

I’m so glad that this topic came up…. I just wish the people who put the music together would listen to the fans. I mean, after all, we ARE the ones who buy it! I think Patsavas did a great job with the Twilight soundtrack… almost all are tying as my favorites at this point and I haven’t taken the cd out of my player since November. I know, sick… right? I just can’t help it.
Anyway, I would like to suggest that they incorporate one of two songs by the Sick Puppies (no pun intended… ie. puppies=wolves). I love both “All the Same” or “Issues” by this band and think that they fit NEW MOON perfectly, too! I definitely think NM’s soundtrack needs to have Stephenie’s inspirational band Muse and I’m lovin’ Paramore more and more every day. Rob’s music definitely grows on you and I’d like to see something new by him (maybe even as a secret/hidden track like the last one). That was just an added bonus! I know they’ll do a good job though…. I’m not worried.
Radiohead’s Creep needs to be on there. Its actually on one of Stephenie’s playlists. Its a great song!
I think Gotta Be Somebody by Nickelback would be great! It fits with Jacob soo well. I just love it so much!
I would love if they had Muse and Paramore again. I also think that My Immortal and Missing by Evanescence are great songs for New Moon.
“Rest In Pieces” by Saliva would be an excellent choice — besides being one of SM’s “alternate” songs from her own recommended New Moon playlist, the song is just heartbreaking.
“All I Need” by Staind would be another excellent track … it would play well for any of the main characters.
For a laugh, “Love Stinks” by J. Geils Band.
“Haunted” by Kelly Clarkson is absolutely PERFECT for when Edward leaves. Oh…and Paramore….lots and lots of Paramore.

I thought the Twilight soundtrack was trying a little bit too hard to be indie. Parmore and Linkin Park rocked it…but seriously. Some of it was a little too blahze.
It’d be nice to heard some actual, heartbreaking songs in New Moon. Music really does tell a big story!!
Flyleafs “all around me” was written by the lead singer Lacey Mosley actually wrote that song about her sister, who i think died from drug overdose….so not really a love song all though it could go as one. I personally really like the idea of some Death Cab for Cutie, i think the vibe is perfect for the series, kind of indie you know? Or maybe some armor for sleep or the get up kids….just some ideas.
i think that “leave out all the rest” by linkin park needs to be on the New Moon soundtrack, because it was in twilight but not until the ending credits and i think that the song goes great with the feel of new moon.

Im not sure if there would be a paramore song suitable for new moon. Its such a dark and an emotional induced book. I mean i love paramores music and i think theyre an awesome band. I was reading on SM website that she already had ideas for the soundtrack. A lot of them muse songs. Songs like rest in pieces by saliva and “fix you” and “the scientist” by coldplay. “fix you” from jacobs view and “the scientist” from edwards view. I think the song “white flag” by dido and “best i ever had” by vertical horizon are great songs and theyre so beautiful as it describes exactly what bella feels. Cant wait for the soundtrack!

I know Stephenie loves the unreleased Blue October song “My Never” for Jacob and Bella. I hope that makes it.
I agree that more Paramore should be on there. I think Kelly Clarkson’s song “Haunted” would be very fitting. I also think Evanescence should be on the soundtrack. Whatever songs are on here, I think it should have a similar feel as the Twilight soundtrack but a little more somber because of the mood of the book.

“Here With Me” by Dido is one of my all time favorite songs and it was the theme song to the tv show Roswell. Stephanie has it on her playlist and it would be FANTASTIC to hear when Edward has left Bella and she is trying to just survive day by day…”I don’t want to call my friends, they might wake me from this dream…” The melody and words would be perfect. Take a listen online and see what you think.
Listening to the Twilight soundtrack, I think that Alexandra Patsavas would really like Hana Pestle’s song titled, “Need.” Once you hear the first 30 seconds of this song, you will know that it would fit this sequal perfectly. I think that they should totally use more Paramore in the movies they are one of the best bands!
But I agree that “When it rains” is deff the best choice to play when Edward leaves Bella in the woods. :_{
And I think that “My Heart” is also good for when they are flying back from Italy or it would be good in the third movie Eclipse!
I’d like to see some more Fueled By Ramen bands. Most of them aren’t terribly popular, but they’re all amazing. Thats where Paramore comes from, so it would be exciting to see even more of my favorite bands playing

There’s coldplay, dido, Creedence Clearwater Revival, etc.
I just hope they pick some good songs, songs we will all definitely fall in love with.

One of my favorite musicians, Hana Pestle, has a meeting with Ms. Patsavas in February to discuss the upcoming ‘New Moon’ soundtrack. She’s not on it yet, but hopefully will be!
I would have thought Death Cab for Cutie wrote “Someday You Will Be Loved” after reading New Moon, but the song came first. This song couldn’t be more perfect. It has just the right mood and edge for showing Edward’s decision to leave and Bella’s anguish. “Memories of me will seem more like bad dreams…Just a series of blurs like I never occurred…Someday you will be loved”.
I think there should definitely be on it Hoobastank’s “The Reason” (sooo Edward’s song!!!) and Hana Pestle’s “Need” (Bella’s song). They better no forget Linkin Park (they rule!), Muse, Paramore, Coldplay, Iron&Wine, Evanscence “My Immortal”… Can’t wait for movie and soundtrack to come out!
i love coldplay and i think they’d be perfect. “lost!” would fit really well with when edward leaves her. i also was listening to “stolen” by dashboard confessional when i read the clock tower scene. it made me cry much more than it would’ve if i hadn’t.

I think Snow Patrol’s “open your eyes” to play as Bella is jumping from the cliff. i can picture this in slow motion with a flashback of bella and Edward as she is falling, then as the music peaks and she hits the water, Edwards face is in the water….. Everytime i hear this song, i picture this scene.
it would absolutely make the movie if when it rains by paramore was in newmoon (LLL) it makes so much sense to the book when edward leaves bella. just wonderfull.

“the boy who blocked his own shot” by brand new - really expresses how you can leave someone *because* you love them and they’re another of stephenie’s favorite bands. and i can’t listen to when it rains by paramore without thinking of bella in the deepest points of her depression. there’s so much potential for this soundtrack.
I really think that one of Katy Perry’s new song called ,”Thinking of you” would be a great song to be put into the New Moon soundtrack. If you really listen to what Katy Perry is saying it fits exactly into the part when Edward leaves Bella. When she is with Jacob she is thinking about Edward pretty much the whole time and the song definitely brings out that emotion. Also in the beginning of the song it starts off talking about an apple which is the cover of twilight and talking about second best…. it is really hard to explain, but I think once you heard the song you will understand. i think that white horse by taylor swift would be a good song for the new moon soundtrack. you would have to cut out the part that says “cause im not your princess, this aint a fairytale, im gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well” and then the rest after that for obvious reasons.

I really like My Immortal by Evanescence and Need by Hana Pestle for Bella’s feelings after Edward leaves. I also like Going Under for when Bella jumps off the cliff. I also like Bring Me To Life also by Evanescence to describe Bella, but I dont know where that wold fit into to the story. I do like Evanescence, but I also think that they just fit into the story because their lyrics have such a meaning to them.
i think the song Hello Alone by Anberlin would be perfect for bella when Edward leaves. and i love Paramore, and songs from Red Jumpsuit Apparatus or Dashboard Confessional would be great.
Everyone should check out this band called goodnight Juliet from CA. The lead singer specifically wrote a song for new moon. The song is called Let’s Never Die. Its so amazing. I think they are trying to get it on the soundtrack. This is their myspace!

I think that “Bring me to Life” Evanescence would be perfect. The lyrics include, “I’ve become so numb”,which is how Bella describes herself. “Love Remains the same” by Gavin Rossdale. These two songs are perfect for New Moon!

I think that Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy should be included. Really awesome song,totally suits New Moon when Edward is away and Bella keeps thinking bout him.Similarly, I also feel that You’re Not Alone by Saosin also deserves to be in that compilation. Along with Almost Lover,it potrays the lost that Bella had experienced while Edward was away from her.

I love all of her music but I would like to recommend her song Unchanged for the New Moon soundtrack.
It is a beautiful and unforgettable inde rock ballade perfect for Bella and Edward while they are separated.
The song is about longing, waiting, a love that fallows where ever you go and that her heart will remain unchanged.
I think it’s so cool that she does dance remixes to all of her songs. Love Her!!!!!!

I think that
‘Set Fire To The 3rd Bar’ by Snow Patrol
would be a really good idea for the part where Edward leaves Bella and she’s wandering through the forest. It is a very powerful track and would work really well because it contains the lines
‘And miles from where you are, I lay down on the cold ground, and pray that someone picks me up and sets me down in your warm arms’
becasue she does lie down and want him to come back to her (according to the book).

I definitely think all the songs should be composed specially for New Moon. It would make it even more special, and Twilight lovers won’t love bands just because they were played on the Twilight and New Moon movies. That’s just stupid.
I have to 100% agree with “The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot” by Brand New-it is so tortured and very Edward. Another great one would be Death Cab for Cutie’s “I will Follow you into the Dark”-esp. since a big theme is that Edward won’t “live” long without her. John Mayer is not very “Twilight” but his song “the Heart of Life” would be appropriate for Charlie worrying about Bella or Jacob trying to bring her out. “You Could Be Happy” by Snow Patrol, “breathe me” by Sia, “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon, “Starlight” by Muse for the race to Volterra…and on and on and on I could go!

I just saw a trailer on youtube yesterday with an unsigned artist who put one of their tracks to a new moon trailer. This fits the movie and should be considered, the bands name is Slant.
