Entertainment Weekly Casting ‘The Volturi’ in ‘New Moon,’ the ‘Twilight’ sequel
Now that we know the sequel to box-office smash Twilight is a go, it’s time to consider casting some of the most nefarious — and frightening — characters of the entire series: The Volturi. Here are my picks for a few of the baddie bloodsuckers who’ll be introduced in New Moon:Jane: The only actress I want to see take on the role of the petite pain inflictor with the childlike voice is Pushing Daisies’ Kristin Chenoweth. Her voice is certainly high enough, and at 4′11′’, she’s also short enough.
Aro: The mind-reading Volturi leader is described as having long, dark hair and translucently white skin. As much as I’d love to see True Blood’s Stephen Moyer take a stab at the royal role, I’m going to think outside the coffin and offer up Crispin Glover, who has a knack for playing creepy and possesses the gaunt features you’d expect of an ancient undead.
Caius: Having perfected the role of a wise, other-worldly being sporting long white hair in The Lord of the Rings, I’m nominating British thespian Christopher Lee. Plus, he’s got tons of vampire cred, having played Count Dracula more than 10 times throughout his long career.
Well those are a few of my picks for the reigning coven. Who would you cast as Jane, Aro, and Caius, Twilighters? Got any suggestions for other Volturi members, like Alec, Marcus, or Felix?

I just picture the volturi super creepy, so maybe Draco Malfoy’s daddy or Christopher Walken. He’s just scary looking.

Kristin is to old looking for that part…But as for the men wow…I so hope they do not put rob in as much as they are talking about but then again I do Love ROB.
I think they are horrible. Especially Jane. Jane is suppose to be a little girl, and a good pick would be the little girl from Silent Hill.
Love Kristen Chenoweth, but I don’t know if she’d be quite right for Jane. I agree with sha, she’s not young enough.

OMG! Kristin Chenoweth is NOT good for the part of Jane! CRIST what an insult. Jane is described as a little girl, a young teenager. Not a middle-aged tart!! Yea, Jane has the charming angelic smile but is still DEADLY. That’s one thing that the Volturi have they NEED to look really scary. Can you imagine that squeeky voice coming from Kristen in the middle of that deadly scene where Bella needs the Volturi? That scene is REALLY creepy, and scary, because we don’t know if Bella, Edward, and Alice will make it out of there alive. With THAT woman as Jane it’ll be a DAMN COMEDY SHOW! Ugh! NO!
Who I picture as Jane is Dakota Fanning. She has a smile, but she has the capacity to be CREEPY and SCARY. As for the men of the Volturi I don’t know yet.
Jason Issacs (Mr. Malfoy) is compleatly who I pictured as Caius.Aro has to be charming and scary Gary Oldman could do it

to me, kristin bell would be a PERFECT jane because i have seen her play the sadistically sweet elle in heroes, but she is probably too tall. hmmm…dakota fanning could be good.
I agree that Kristen Chenoweth is too old for Jane. I was thinking that actress that played Briony in Atonement. I think she could pull off creepy, and she’s British like Jane.
I totally agree with the Jason Issacs as Caius….AND Dakota Fanning as Jane, but I really don’t know who else I would want as the Volturi…
Omigod. I loved Twilight! And as for New Moon and the volturi, I think that lady from Pushing Daisies would be good–but she’s not young enough. If she was younger she’d be PERFECT. But she’s a little to old for the part. I was looking through MySpace and I saw a profile that was suposidly “Jane’s”, obviously not, duhh, but on the profile, the little girl form Silent Hill portrayed her. Now I think SHE would be perfect. I didn’t even think of her until I saw that on MySpace, but the more I think about it, the better it sounds!! She’d be amazing as Jane! Don’t you all think?

ew no! no crispin glover! that guy is creepy thin man from charlie’s angels! no freaking way. vampires are supposed to be alluring and that man is disgustingly hideous.
lol idk why but i pictured bill murray as aro haha idk why but how he gets all excited bout stuff, the only thing if bill was cast is he would have to bring down some of his comedic side…and try to be a little dark and serious too….and kristen chenowith…either the lil girl from silent hill or briony…idk bout dakota
I would really like some non-famous actors in the roles. That’s one thing that I loved about Twilight. Crispin Glover is fantastic but I’d see Crispin Glover and not the character. I’m sure there are plenty of actors out there who could do this and just need to be given the chance.
Ok, Alan Rickman needs to play Aro!!!!! and Ian McKellan as Caius, and Dakota FAnning would be perfect for Jane because she can absolutely play CREEPY!

I think Dakota Fanning would be good as Jane only because she reminds me of Claudia in Interview with a Vampire when it was Kristen Dunst’s role. as far as Aro goes I say Johnny depp like catherine says :] hes hot enough. and as far as Caius I would have to go with Alan Rickman hes perfect for it.
OME!!! All the new talk about New Moon is putting me on edge about adding more Edward/Rob in there as much as i love him and I do. It would so screw with the ending and the love Bella starts having for jacob and that would so be bad for the 3rd one…If they keep him like the book has him it will be AMAZING!!!It will have us all ready for the next one maybe even more people.
Kristin Chenoweth would work if she wasn’t sexy.. she’s too sexy to be Jane.
As for the others they picked they would be cool.
I see the Volturi Trio as someone along the lines of the Lords in Underworld. Definitely creepy status and dominant.

Keep the new actors for New Moon - Jane, Voluturi etc. - as up and coming actors, just like was done for Twilight.
As soon as a uber-famous actor like Dakota Fanning or Johnny Depp gets cast as Jane or Aro, teh focus becomes Dakota Fanning, not the character of Jane, the story, etc.
Not at any of the Twilight Saga movies will ever be small, indepenent affairs again, but no one or nothing should overshadow Edward (Pattinso) or Bella (Stewart) as the central characters of the film OR the Cullen clan & Jacob as the secondary characters.
Jane & Alec are described as 15-yr old angelic looking, look much younger than their actual age, twins.
Although, I have to admit the picture I got in my head of Aro is a dark-haired Jason Isaacs (aka Lucius Malfoy)

I think Kristin Chenoweth is probably my last choice for Jane, considering JAne is supposed to be androgynous, child-like (considering she’s not very “old”), angel faced with short brown hair…
wtf i thought that girl from silent hill was dead? mabeye i am thinking of someone else but i swore i heard that little girl was dead?
someone mentioned Johnnie Depp and I just got done watching Sweeney Todd so I just pictured him singing his lines. Ha Ha that would be hilarious. Now I can’t picture him seriously. I’m for the lesser known actors. Why? because we are all such huge fans of the books and we have seen these characters in our heads and none of them are Johnnie Depp. Besides he can act everyone of them under the table. Not really fair.
Kristin Chenoweth and Helena Bonham Carter are too old to play Jane. I think Stephanie Leonidas should play Jane. She’s petite and still looks like a young teenager. She can also pull off short dark hair very well. She’s also very pretty and can be creepy.
I want Dakota Fanning as Jane. She just looks perfect in my eyes for the part. Jensen Ackles would be cool as Felix, even though its not a huge part. I just think he could pull of the character perfectly.
Ok, i disagree with several of these pick simply because they should use fresh faces. Presonally, I’m glad they used People i’d never head of before for the Twilight film. it made it more… Twilight.
I want to see the characters when i see this, not the actors.
Oh, and aren’t Jane and Alec supposed to be Twins?

I’d LOVE to have Kristin Chenoweth as Jane, she would be fantastic, but she could hardly pass as the twin sister of one of the above XD
I don’t think they need to have “fresh faces” for the volturi. I mean most of the people in Twilight were not widely known before, so I guess they could have famous people as the Volturi. Johnny Depp would be amazing but I doubt Summit is willing to pay that much … no idea.
What about Alan Rickman. I mean, he is SO Volturi! XD He’d be great for that bored one, I can’t remember which one that is, I keep confusing them…

Jane is young looking but not a little girl because the Volturi have the one big vampire no-no and that is NO CHILD should be made a Vampire thats why the other veggie vamp clan lost their mother(Sry for those who haven’t read eclipse)so the actress that plays Jane should be young looking but not a actress under the age of i’d say 17, she has to look like a women but with a baby face.
I can totally see Alan Rickman as one of leaders of the Volturi. He’d be absolutely perfect for it.

i really want to get the part of jane (or just to audition at least) but i dont know if the casting agents would be coming to england.
i am INCREDIBLY pale, have just under shoulder length dirty blondish hair, around 5ft, just turned 14, with impish features
i dont know if i would be ‘perfect’ or anything like that but i am so desperate just to try because i can act very well and i think i could stand a chance

Aro: Hmm…I’m still debating that one. I don’t want just “anybody” playing that role. They need to be dead on in the personality. Look wise…well everybody has their own idea.
As for Marcus and Caius…I’m deabting that one too, but my choices for Jane,Alec and Demetri are final.
I’ll update my other choices when I discover the right people. (or decide for that matter.)

OMG!!!! I have been asking myself if I have read a different New Moon from the one everyone else on this sight has read. Although the Volturi are very old in years they are not decribed as ancient looking!!! The suggestions of some of the actors above are quite ridiculous. Ian McKellen, Bill Nighy, Alan Rickman and Christopher Lee are all far too old. For them to be that old looking they must have become vampires when collecting their pensions!!!
I haven’t thought much about who exactly could play each of the Volturis but I’ve had this in my mind for a while…I actually think Hero Fiennes Triffin would make an EXCELLENT Alec! adn Jodelle Ferland for Jane they would be a very creepy and WONDERFUL combination. They do look kinda alike so they could easily be considered as twins!
For the Volturi when i read the books (I’ve re-read the series 4 times!!) i always thought of Caius and Aro & Marcus young, blonde & brown hair & really creepy! I also thought of Jane as long brown hair & looks kind of young like a teen? I thought she would be Jodelle Ferland! She is exactly what i thought she would look like! I hope she gets the part:)
I always pictured Aro as Antonio Banderas because of his creepy vampire role in Interview with the Vampire. He had the long dark hair and pale white skin in that movie so he immediately came to mind when I was reading New Moon.

Wow. Kristen I’m not so sure would make the best part for Jane. But I mean come on. Dakota Fanning? I might MIGHT think she could possibly do the part if I even liked her very much. She’s just NOT one of my favorite actresses. ugh. Seeing her try to be creepy would just make me laugh my head off! lol
I for one think that Mads Mikkelson did a great job as Le Chief in Casino Royale and I can easily seeing him play Aro in New Moon. Also it would be interesting to see James Franco as one of Volturi characters. He has certainly shown his range as an actor this last year. I know it has been said but the guy who plays Sylar (soon be Spock in the Star Trek movie) who be more than awesome as a Volturi. I know they most have a budget but it would be nice to see a seasoned actor to play Aro.
When reading the book you get a totaly different view of what the characters will look like, but when ready what other people thinkyou start to put their faces to the characters.
