MARIONSTAR.COM – BREAKING DAWN REVIEW
MarionStar.com Breaking Dawn review.

Breaking Dawn, by Stephenie Meyer, has been eagerly awaited by all fans of the Twilight saga. It was given publicity well ahead of its release date, adding to the anticipation and speculation of its contents. There were so many avenues that Stephenie Meyer could have gone down when writing this book. She went down some that were, well, predictable. But that did not deter me from reading on.
That being said, the writing was not the best. It is definitely a league of its own, though. Written with immense description that gets a little weighty at times. I still delved in. As a fan of the series I felt compelled to. And while it wasn’t the best thing ever written, a part of me oddly liked it. It was a sort of guilty pleasure reading something that I know is fluff but liking it nonetheless. I think a small part of me died when I realized that I did like it, even though my conscious told me not to. But I read it front to back in a day. I absorbed it, and afterwards felt conflicted. I can not say why part of me likes it, maybe it’s the fondness for the series, or maybe it’s the fondest for the author, or maybe the book wasn’t as horribly written as I think it is (which I doubt). I honestly don’t know why part of me likes it, but the English major in me cringes with horror. The book left me with the happy ending I desired, but it had the familiar anti-climaticism, the same predictability, the same 600+ pages of fluff, like the previous two books. None were as good bas the first, which I know is in itself predictable, but I mean they went downhill fast with each addition to the series. Yet as a fan of the story I read on. This book in particular left me conflicted than the others because this one was the worst of the series.
The book would fail to stand on its own, of that I am sure. In order to like this book I think you would have to have read the entire series. You would have to believe in the characters Bella and Edward. And you would have to be able to hold onto a suspended disbelief and believe whatever Meyers tells you. If you can do all of the aforementioned, then this book could be for you. If you cannot, then steer clear of this book.
I picked this review because it’s not extremely negative but she didn’t get effusive with praise either. I agree that Stephenie Meyer’s writing is not the best. The story-telling is what I love about the series. Breaking Dawn is not my favorite of the series and I must admit, I might not have finished it if I hadn’t been so in love with Edward and Bella. It’s a bit hard to take in some respects but Breaking Dawn has grown on me. If I had to rank them according to my favorite, it would be 1) Twilight 2) New Moon – I love the emotional roller coaster 3) Breaking Dawn and 4) Eclipse – not a fan of a lot of this one. What do you think of the review? Is it fair? And how would you rank the books according to your favorite?
