POPWATCH: WHAT BOOK SERIES DO YOU REVISIT OVER AND OVER AGAIN?

POPWATCH: WHAT BOOK SERIES DO YOU REVISIT OVER AND OVER AGAIN?

Entertainment Weekly Popwatch - Asks us what book, movie, or tv series do we revisit over and over again? Could it be Twilight?

This weekend was an historical one (for me), PopWatchers: I finished re-reading The Lord of the Rings for the 10th year in a row. And to all the haters about to hit the “Comment” button: I’ve heard it all before. “Why re-read that boring garbage? Why not read other books?” Worry not. I do read other books. But LotR is special. Not only is it a reminder of otherwise blissfully boring summer breaks (though I switched to Fall/Winter when I got to college), but it’s also just…fun. I find something new every time I read it — especially since I’ve added Tolkien’s early history of Middle Earth, The Silmarillion, to my ritual — and diving back into that world always feels like a miniature homecoming. And, hey, Christopher Lee has done it every year since, like, the 1950s.

So with the accomplishment of this feat, my thoughts - -as they so often do — turn to you, dear readers. I’ve heard of annual Star Wars viewings and the amazing Rocky Horror Picture Show re-enactments. And now that the seventh Harry Potter has been out for a year and a half, I bet some of you are starting your own annual Potterganzas. So, what books do you go back and re-read every year? Or maybe it’s a movie trilogy that gets you fired up during these winter months? Whatever it is, tell us in the comments!

Tell them here

(thanks Kat)

Although this article doesn’t mention Twilight, I posted it because the Twilight series is what I revisit the most. I wander away and read other books, but I always come back for more Twilight. It’s like a crack addiction. And I need my crack on a regular basis. It’s your turn, what’s your crack addiction? What is the book, movie or tv series you revisit over and over again?

  2. she runs with vampires responded:

I’m re-reading “New Moon” now (10th time) AND the last Harry Potter (3rd time) at the same time but I always end up reading more of New Moon so I definitely feel the same way. Like the Popwatch writer, I too, find something new each time I read them. I want to be prepared for all the things they’re going to CUT OUT of the movie, ha. ha.
P.S. I’m sure it was not meant in any harm, but please don’t refer to our Twilight addictions to Crack. My EX-husband is in jail because of stupidity due to Crack. I love my Vampires TOO MUCH to have them associated with that horrible drug. No Harm Done!.

  3. Amber responded:

I KEEP RE-READING BREAKING DAWN I LOVE IT AND I AM SO HOPEING THE DO FILM IT BECAUSE I WILL BE PISSED OFF IF THEY DONT
I RE-READ ALL THE TWILIGHT BOOKS EXCEPT NEW MOON I ONLY READ ONCE I DONT LIKE IT, ITS TO BOREING FOR ME, IT NEVER CAUGHT MY ATTENCHEN LIKE BREAKING DAWN

  4. kerri responded:

I read Twilight and Eclipse the most, lost count. Potter was my original obsession before I even heard of Twilight. It was the Potter fans that brought me to Twilight, so I owe alot to them since my loyalties have slipped from wizards to vampires. I feel a twinge of guilt over that but looking Rob in his beautiful face somehow makes it all better. LOL!
I liked the left behind series and golden compass series. Those were good too, but I have to say, after my second replacement of Twilight, that it is my official obsession.

  5. Anonymous responded:

Oh my two series most def are Harry Potter and Twilight. I’ve been a faithful Harry Potter fan for years, and that’s not changed since Twilight entered my life. Now I am rereading all of the Twilight saga, and then I’m rereading all of the Harry Potter books! I switch off :)

  6. mrsecullen responded:

i would have to say Twilight saga. i was into HP for like the first 4 books then after that i lost interest in the books. i love Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. after i finished Breaking Dawn i immediately started reading it again. i REALLY hope they decide to film it.

  7. Sam responded:

House of Night series, Blue Bloods, & (of course) Twilight.

  8. Habiba responded:

It’s only normal that I read and over read the Twilight saga, HP too on occasion, and Lord of The Rings is an annual ritual to me, there is also this book called “North & South” love it, also I’d like to add “Pride and Prejudice”. and there are always other books, but those are mainly it.

  9. TwiFan5 responded:

OMG! Twilight totally is like crack, as far as I can assume never being addicted to illegal substances. lol I was just talking about this last night with a friend. Twilight is the new crack. Just when you think you can stand to get away for a while . . . you’re drawn right back in . . . with no complaints. hehehe :-) I’m glad I’m not alone.

  10. JessieAnnMcKennaCullen responded:

I’m a fan of Vampire and supernatural books in general, I love the Vampire Kisses series, I used to read my R.L. Stine books over and over, the Fear Street series, I’ll still read them over again if I have time. I just finished the Twilight series last night, and I am definitely gonna go back to the beginning and start reading again cus it freaking rocks! Harry Potter I love as well, and when I have the time I plan on re-reading them too, probly after I re-read the Twilight series cus Twilight is my current obsession lol. Blue is for Nightmares is also a really good series I plan on re-reading :)

  11. trel responded:

    Twilight… what else?

  12. hilal responded:

I am definitley not reading the Twilight saga again. But Jane Austen and Shakespear, I advise you all to read it too. Trust me, it is such beautiful literature and written ten times better than twilight.

  13. carla responded:

I re-read over and over The twilight saga, it is all i read. I hate reading but i can not get enough of the saga.:):)LOL

  14. spiritblue responded:

starting my third round of the twilight saga…harry potter books only once…i have watched the movies several times…goblet of fire mosly of course..
and anything by maggie shayne..over and over…

  15. Mari responded:

Twilight and Harry Potter. I can’t stop reading it. And evryone says: aaaw, reading Harry Potter (or Twulight) AGAIN?! STOP! That’s booooaring. I don’t think so.

  16. maria responded:

Well twilight, (obviously), Harry Potter right now, (to catch up for the next movie in July!) and i also reread the Alex Rider books. but i do read other books when i find them!

  17. Korry responded:

I re-read all of the Twilight Saga. Last night I started reading Twilight again and my husband looked at me and asked ” Why are you reading that again? What is that the 100th time?” My response was ” Because I always find something new that I may have skimmed over the last time”. Its my obession and I cant make it stop. At least with heroin they give you methadone!!! Their is no cure!

  18. Patty responded:

I like Breaking Dawn the most because I love Happy Endings! I have read it at least 12 times since it was released. I can’t wait to see what they do for this as a movie!!!

  19. ~Me~ ;] responded:

    Twilight of course!!!!
Plus the Alex Rider series, and the Dragons in Our Midst/ Oracles of Fire series. DEFINITELY CHECK THESE OUT, PEOPLE!!!! THEY ARE *AWESOME*!!!!!!! =D

  20. Jennie responded:

ok… of course I re-read the saga many times. I’m on my 4th time treough Twilight now:P But as with some others I am also reading other books too. I am also going through a series called ‘Blue Bloods’ (there’s 3 in the series) and I was reading a group of books but I don’t know the name of the series (the first book is called “Don’t Talk Back To Your Vampire”). So although I read Twilight overm and over… I also try and read other books as well.

oh… and a little off topic, but still funny :P How many of you, after seeing the trailer for “Inkheart” (it came on before the Twilight movie when I was it) were VEEEEEEERY tempted to run home and test if that actually works… (oh and if it did we’d all have our own little Edward Cullens running around :P )

  21. amy responded:

I am Curently re-reading the The Twilight Saga, and finishing the Movie Campanion, it is really cool to read all the ends and outs of the making of the movie.. I just got down re-reading the Partial Manuscript, but want to scream at the end of it everytime because I want to read the whole thing and I hope and hope that one day she will publish it… I am re-reading Twilight right now.. I kind of went backwards, I re-read BD, then Eclipse, not new moon, my friend has it.. and Now Twilight but I will be brave and re-read New Moon… I love the Italy Part!! The Tv show series that I love to re-watch over and over again is Gilmore Girls… Another book series that I have not re-read but I do love it is the Tennis shoes among the Nephite Series by Chris Heimerdinger…

  22. emmy responded:

    Twilight, of course!

Last year I was reading school books more than Twilight, but these hols I am reading almost like 4-5 hours a day. But I don’t think its crack. Its more like… bumbumbum… HEROINE! lol
