ACCESS HOLLYWOOD: FIRST LOOK AT ROBERT PATTINSON IN ‘HOW TO BE’

Posted April 10th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 20 Comments »

Before he was in Twilight, Robert Pattinson played the lovable role of Art in How to Be. It’s been shown at film festivals and will soon appear on IFC Festival Direct on April 29th, but thanks to Access Hollywood, we have your first look!

(Thanks Rachel)

I’ve been dying to see this movie – it looks so good! Rob’s roles are so diverse and I can’t wait to see the full movie. It’s not directly Twilight-related, but I still enjoy seeing other films that the cast members are in.

What did you think of this clip? Do you intend to see this movie? Do you go out of your way to watch movies that Twilight cast members are in?

    I love Rob

Does anyone else find it ironic that Rob plays in all these roles where his character has serious mental issues??? I mean, really… he obviously can really get into character for some odd reason. Maybe his ability to play all of these types of characters stems from his own neuroses. Don’t ya think?
(This is for some of the younger folk out there… neuroses = any of various mental or emotional disorders, such as hypochondria or neurasthenia, arising from no apparent organic lesion or change and involving symptoms such as insecurity, anxiety, depression, and irrational fears, but without psychotic symptoms such as delusions or hallucinations. No longer in scientific use.

That looks hilarious, I can’t wait to see it!
I have gone out of my way to watch movies the Twilight cast have been in, more specifically Rob and Kristen, but I’ve seen movies that Nikki and Cam were in prior to Twilight too. I just love seeing them in different roles. I’m not really a fan of many people, and I’d like to have good reason to be a fan besides the fact that they play the characters from a book I love, so I watch their other movies. The entire cast is just so amazingly talented on Twilight.

Rob just blows me away with his versatility, all of his roles are so different from each other. I think The Haunted Airman is probably my favorite, I thought it was brilliant, especially the ending.

kijo921: Yeah it is kind of strange isn’t it? He always seems to play these troubled characters. I don’t think I’d chalk it up to neuroses though, although he does seem to be anxious and insecure sometimes. I think he works really hard to prepare for his roles. I forget how long exactly, but I remember reading that he spent months getting into character for Edward. And maybe he’s just not the type of person to be the center of attention so he seems nervous. I don’t know, whatever it is it’s working for him!

Did anyone catch that his friends name is Edward….

This movie looks good! Can’t wait to see Robert Pattinson portray “Art” it looks fascinating and a very adorable movie!

He is amazingly talented and gorgeous and i’m excited to see him!

That has to be one of the most hillarious things I’ve seen in a long time! I love that…Is he with you Art? OMG! LOL. Oh, I love you Rob!

I saw it at the Burbank Film Fest last month and was sort of bored by it. Quirky is a kind adjective for it. There’s just really not a lot going on, and the ending is sorta pointless and leaves you wanting more (or anything, really). There were definitely a few parts where I laughed out loud (one of which was actually in this clip here) but the movie definitely drags. If it weren’t for Robert’s popularity there’s no WAY this would have gotten distribution.

I got my ticket for the How To Be screening two weeks ago and I’m going to see it on April 22. I can’t wait. I also want to see Adventureland and Little Ashes. Was a Kristen fan before I became a Rob fan, so I support her stuff just as much as his.

it´s so funny how rob is always playing with his hair!
awh! he is so cute! can´t wait for it!

I can’t wait to see this movie. I wish I could see more of Roberts films, but I don’t know how I can. I don’t know where to find them.
I have just recently been watching shows and films that the other cast members have been in. I wanted to see them act in different roles. They are all soooo good. Funny. Some of the shows and films I’ve been watching, I have seen before, but didn’t know a twilight cast members was in it . When I watched it again, I payed more attention. Some of the shows/films I watched had more than one cast member in the show/film. I want to see more of Rob too darn it.

I saw it at the Austin Film Festival and it was really good. It was one of the most “buzzed” about films and Rob does a great job. It is definitely an “indie” film in every sense (which to me is a good thing) and it is not going to appeal to people who are used to the typical Hollywood movie. I think Rob relates to this character much more easily than he does to his sex symbol role as Edward. On the downside, there are no smoldering looks or tight t-shirt : ).

I believe we will see more of Robert well after “Twilight” saga. Even though he stated that he will retire from acting in 2010, he will be sought out throughout Hollywood and the World for his talented skill in acting and his beauty. ;) It does not matter what character he is portraying, he captures our attention and we focus on that attention to see and to hear and to watch his every body movement! Hot Stuff!

Looks good been wanting to watch that. Yes I do go out of my way to watch any movie with a Twilight character in it. Especially if its Rob.

Do we know if this will ever be released on DVD? I don’t have the money to drive all the way to Minneapolis or Chicago to see it.

  • Krystal

I’m so bummed this is not going to be available on Dish Network. Only if you have Cox, TimeWarner, or Comcast, On Demand. Grrrr! And being in the middle of Kansas it’s not like it’s coming anywhere near me! :)

I will just have to pray it comes out on DVD SOON!

  • Lainie88

This movie looks so good. Rob’s amaaaaazing

  • cj

I agree with Britt. I love Rob. Very well said. I’ve seen the trailer for this movie and I’m very excited to see it. I got Tickets for April 22nd.

Yes, I’ve been watching anything I can get my hands on with any of them, and am amazed by their talent, for being so young!

You guys know to watch The Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King this Thursday at 12 and 2pm EST on SciFi CHannel in the USA, right? This film is also known (in Europe) as The Ring of the Nibelings.

  • twilightfan14

Loved it! Yes! And Yes! I was a Kristen fan before Twilight (still haven’t seen all of her movies yet, but almost-didn’t know she’d made 18 of them! Wow!) and now I would support anything any of the Twilight actors do, be it tv (loved Jackson Rathbone on Criminal Minds-an awesome performance!) or movies.
I have Comcast so I can buy Rob’s movie How to Be and watch it at my house-lucky me. But, if it plays in any theaters near me, I will be there. I’m very loyal that way. And I always go opening weekend, since “opening weekend” has become so important media-wise. It’s a shame that people are so fickle-it seems that no one will go to a movie just because of loyalty to an actor. I do. I guess I’m weird! Ha ha That’s why there’s really no such thing as a movie star anymore, unless you’re Will Smith! Even Julia Robert’s movie, Duplicity, (yes, I went) only made 10 million opeing weekend.
