DAKOTA FANNING CONFIRMED AS JANE IN ‘NEW MOON’
We’ve heard the rumors for weeks and weeks that Dakota Fanning was up for a part in “New Moon”. Tonight Summit officially announced via e-mail (to TwilightTheMovie.com subscribers) that Dakota is joining the cast of “New Moon”, and she will be playing the part of Jane (one of the Volturi guard).
Wow! Exciting news! I’m not sure which I’m more excited about, the fact we finally find out that Dakota is in the movie, or the fact that Summit is finally telling us about the cast. I’m looking forward to seeing Dakota as Jane, I think she’ll do a fantastic job. Jane is such a big character, I think Dakota may be just the person to pull it off. I hope we hear about more casting soon!

This will be a great role for Dakota. But, here’s the thing that’s worried me from the minute they announced New Moon: These actors who are know really well-known are probably requesting bigger salaries.
Problem is, New Moon isn’t exactly a big-budget film. Obviously, the filmmakers will need to spend a decent portion of their budget on special effects (to make the werewolves and whatnot look good). Well, the salary money, the special effects money — it all has to come from somewhere. And aren’t Rob and Kris getting raises for New Moon–$12 million each? Isn’t the budget for New Moon $50 million? Am I missing something?? If not, this worries me…
Yes, I do think Dakota Fanning will make an excellent Jane. But I do hope that regardless of her huge resume and A-list status, they don’t overpay her. I think it’s really important for them to focus more of their money on making the movie visually pleasing rather than paying lots of money to big-time actors.

Agreed. They’ve slashed half their budget on 2 actors. Great actors for these parts, of course…but still. HALF their budget. On TWO actors. Think of all the other cast and crew (plus money for SFX) that require money.
Forgot to mention…. Rob’s character isn’t even in New Moon that much…definitely not as much as Kris’ character. Right? Shouldn’t actors sort of be paid based on how much they’re actually going to be WORKING?
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE the cast. All of them. I just want the movie to cater to the fans rather than spoiled actors who get millions of dollars for 2 scenes (exaggerating, but you get the point).
wow. i dont understand what the need to cast famous celebrities in new moon is about. what i loved about twilight the movie was that it was undiscovered actors and actresses. now little 8 year olds are going to go “oooh mommy lets go see new moon! my favorite actress dakota fanning from charlotte’s web is in it!’…need i say anything about the jonas brothers…
in response to an earlier post, about why the big secret over casting, this right here. to keep fans like us on the edge of our seats and to keep momentum going. i also think that i read somewhere that the 12 million dollar salary for rob and kristen was wrong. i, like other people, wish that they would hurry up and officially announce the cast already!! i believe that dakota will be great as jane! i cannot wait till november!
I am VERY excited, and relieved to finally hear some casting news, and to know that Dakota Fanning will be playing Jane- something tells me she can pull off that petulant/sadisitic thing that Jane has going on, and still look like a Bodicelli angel!
As for the others who have commented here raising questions about the budget- that $50M dollar figure was thrown out back before Twilight was released. Believe me, they have increased the budget- A LOT!!! Summit knows full well that they have the future of their entire company riding on these movies, they aren’t going to mess it up. I also think Rob said that the $12 M dollar payday for him was a complete myth. So, you couple a bigger budget, that hasn’t been announced yet, with less money than has been reported, and it’s all gonna be just fine.
As far as casting “celebrities” goes…not everyone in Twilight was a complete “unknown” before, and they most certainly aren’t now. Think of all the HUGE stars who have been in the Harry Potter movies, and the Lord of the Rings movies, and many, many other literary adaptations that have been done since the dawn of filmmaking. If they are truly talented actors, you get lost in their performance and kind of forget who it is playing the part, and we all know Dakota is a fabulous talent.
Everyone just needs to chill…though it is VERY exciting to get some official news finally. Summit isn’t going to mess up this franchise. Trust me.
FINALLY!!!I’m so happy that Dakota will be joining the cast. Yes, she is a Type-A celebrity and yes she’s famous, but..SHE CAN DEFINITELY ACT. Seriously, I don’t mind having a famous person in the film..AS LONG AS THEY CAN ACT AND GIVE THE CHARACTER THE JUSTICE, it’s fine by me.
Tippy, Hope you’re right about the budget and salary rumors. Special effects werewolves require a bigger budget, otherwise they’ll look hokey. And yes, I agree, Summit NEEDS to make these movies work.

umm….the whole reason i liked the movie was not because it had cool effects and good acting, but the fact that none of the people were known because they never had any lead roles.Sure Rob pattinson was in harry Potter…but that wasn’t a LEAD role….and obviously they just ruined that because Dakota Fanning has had more than one lead role. Dont get me wrong, she’s a good actress but they just ruined the psychological fact for all us “twilighter movie fans” i am very disappointed. but im sure the movie is going to be good even though we’ve heard of Dakota Fanning. It’ll be interesting to see her as a vampire tho…..

For the people that don’t understand the need to cast famous people in the parts. Well, since Kristen and Rob have complained so much about fans harassing them, and they are so sick of the exposure, casting probably feels the best bet is to cast some of the famous people that want to be apart of the Twimania, to take the heat off Kristen and Rob, and distract the fans and the media a little from obsessing over the main 3, Taylor, Rob, and Kristen. I feel it’s senseless. Alice should be having a very good piece of the movie, that is, if they go by the book, or even follow the general idea of what the book is to be. But, maybe they’ll do it like they did the last time. Rewrite and give most of the parts to Rosalie, even though she gets alot of time in Eclispe and Breaking Dawn, but I guess it’s irrelevant. Summit is going to do what they do best.
As for Dakota, since they’ve casted her, would they PLEASE (I stress the please), at least make her hair brown and give a little personality?! And stop putting Alice and Jasper in the background in photo shoots! Rosalie and Emmentt belong in the background, not Alice and Jasper! Get it straight. geesh…

Dakota Fannings role is small so I DOUBT THERE PAYING HER MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS !!!
There are only small parts left anyway (the main characters have been covered from film 1), and those “big stars” want to be a part of the twilight saga obviously (whether it’s to meet Rob, to be in a very popular project or because they were fans of the saga before). I don’t think that they will request that much money if they really want their name in the end credit (sorry if this sounds harsh, all of this fuss makes me laugh as well).
I have no opinion about Dakota anyway, I don’t think that I know her, let’s hope that she’ll be good.
And I also read that Kristen and Rob were not getting paid $12 millions…
I actually hope that they did raise Rob’s paycheck because he had to give up all projects he might have had for the twilight saga even though as you pointed out, he’s hardly in new moon: are they going to send him for all the promotional events in advance while Kristen and Taylor are filming? Well, we don’t know the final script, so maybe I shoudn’t jump to hasty conclusions.

Sia: Your point is the basis for one of my great fears about having Dakota in New Moon. I worry the size of the part will be changed to acknowledge her star status. As with several scenes in Twilight, we know the people in charge of adaptaion have no fear in making changes to suit. Now, who or what they suit is what we will find out when we see the movie. If the role of Jane is actually kept to what it is in the book, it will be great. If not, well, what will it be? (Insert a big shrug here)
I’m not too happy she’s in New Moon! I will give her a chance and she might do it well, because i think she’s a great actor, but she’s too famous. The other actors werent as famous when they joined the cast of twilight, but Dakota Fanning is really famous! And like my friend said, people will say stuff like ‘oh have you heard about that new film Dakota Fannings in? lets go see it!’ instead of ‘wow twilight sequal, lets see it!’ I will give her a chance though, maybe i will turn out to like the fact she’s in New Moon.
Rob also discounted that rumor that he was getting $12 million for anything, so I doubt he and Kristen got that big of a raise. But I do think as the stars of what became a $360+ million movie, they did deserve a bump. Dakota will be awesome as Jane, she’s played a psycho bad girl before and been wonderful.

I think she’ll do a great job. She’s the right size. And Jane is described as having an angelic face, but looking and sounding apathetic. I think Dakota Fanning will be able to pull that off nicely, as well as Jane’s sadistic smiles and anger. Now I just want the FULL cast list!
Dakota wants to be in the movie because she has a crush on Rob, all these young actresses just want to be next to Mr. Hottie! Soon we will be hearing about Hillary Duff, Miranda Cosgrove, Francis Cobain(Courtney Love’s daughter) 3 others that have spoken about their crush on him. Keep Vanessa away!

At first I didn’t really want her in the part but I went back and re-read New Moon for the millionth time and finally agreed. I pictured her as Jane and now I can’t see anyone else. I am really glad they chose her. I understand what the other people mean when they say ‘Twilight was better with unknown actors’ but think about it like this… Dakota Fanning has been the leading actress in heaps of movies and now she is accepting this small role that isn’t anywhere near a lead character. I think it is good for her because it is proving to not only her but everyone that she doesn’t have to be the star all the time and even a small role in a movie would be good. Obviously Dakota doesn’t care what role she gets because she’s mentioned she is a huge fan too. She is a Fanpire just like us! Lol, I’m not going to make any judgements on her playing the role of Jane until after I have seen the movie.
The best thing about Dakota is the fact that although she is definently a top celebrity, she doesn’t look like them. What I mean is in her movies, she fits in it perfectly and it doesn’t look like all the movies with Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. Her acting skills totally make her belong in every movie she does.

dakota fanning is an amazing actress, and i think she’ll be able to pull off the role of jane. i couldn’t really see it before, but now that its official she’s playing jane, there’s no time to doubt her. you gotta be confident that summit made the right choice and hope for the best.
as for everyone saying they didn’t want a big a-list actress in the movie, yes i do see how she might request a bigger salary, but it seemed like in all the interviews she was genuinely interested in playing jane,not just for the money. and she IS a 16-year-old girl, she could just as well be a twilight fanatic like most of us. and if YOU were asked to play a role in the movie, you would do it for whatever salary they gave you.
and the possible positive is that since she is a big actress, more people may be interested in going to see the movie besides just the twilight fans. and the more people that see it, the more money it makes, and the better the funding is for eclipse and (hopefully!) breaking dawn!

I have to say I’m disappointed. I had my reasons for not wanting Dakota in New Moon.
1. She’s a big actress and so she’ll probably want more money for her part in the movie
2.She kind of has set this image in my mind that she’s this happy girl who can’t really play the role of this creepy, evil little girl
3.Jodelle has won me over for being Jane I’ve convinced a lot of people that she’s better

Some of you guys need to calm down. Dakota Fanning is an actress that chases acclaim not money so I would just stop worrying about her paycheck. As for the 8 year olds that want to go watch the the movie, who really cares. Bigger box office means bigger future budgets. I think a lot of people need to be reminded that the 37 million spent on twilight was poorly spent. Keep in mind that the first underworld cost only 22 million and the most recent one only had a budget of 35. Im extremely confident that the special effects required for new moon can be done within a 50 million dollar budget and if the budget has gotten bigger then its just an added bonus.

I think this is great news. I really didn’t want any big stars in New Moon because that just ruins the whole look of the characters. BUT I made an exception for her because I thought she would make a good Jane. I hope she lives up to everyones expectations. If she doesn’t she might be in trouble. I was so pleased with the relatively unknown cast for Twilight, because it made it more real. With such a famous actress in New Moon it won’t be as special. Twilight is changing into just a franchise for money.
Dakota is not a good actress period. When she comes on screen I have plans to boo with my TFs (Twilight Friends). She will SUCK as Jane.

i personally dont have that many big ussues with dakota, but i just dont think she’s fit to play this part. i have read the twilight 5 times, new moon 3 times, eclipse 3 times, and breaking dawn 5 times. i know the characters up and down and dakota will suck. jane is supposed to be tiny, fragile, and frightingly beutiful. jane is suppose to have that edge to her wich dakota does not have. ive seen her act,and shes just NOT IT! dammit this really makes me mad cuz she and all the other sucky people are going to mess up the movie. kristen in twilight almost did because she didnt have the drive or the emotion we see in bella the book. kristen was too plain. kristen wasnt a real fan like us when we first read the book, even before they announced the movie was coming out. God, I am really upset about this. I have been dreading this, since the rumour came and I signed petition after petition, and what do I end up with? A hole lot of depression that will last me untill eclipse is finished filming. How can this actually be happening.

And then when I started reading Twilight last year, I was blown away. I fell in love with them and was completely over the mooon with the movie when I watched it. And then this rumour came. Oh, my, god people. Are you freakin’ kidding me?!? This many people are seriously making this big of a deal over the fact that Dakota, (who, yes, I’ll admit, I’m a huge fan of, seeing as she’s my favorite actress and I own all her movies on DVD), was just cast to play Jane in New Moon. A similar thing like this happened online 2 years ago when they were making one of her last movies, Hounddog, and everyone just started spreading rumours and saying crap that wasn’t even true. But that’s beside the point, back to New Moon: For starters, I haven’t even seen Twilight yet, let alone read any of the books, but big name star or not, obviously a lot of people associated with making New Moon had to agree that Dakota is a supremely talented actress, otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten the role, simple as that. It has nothing to do with how hot, gorgeous and beautiful she is, (which is a whole nother story I could easily write a book about alone). And yeah, she WILL probably get way more money for her role in this movie than a lot of Twilight fans think she deserves, but so what?!? We’re not talking about just any child actress, we’re talking about an obviously big-name child star here, one who, at the young age of 15, has already worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood AND has impressed and amazed every single one of them as well, (Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Sean Penn, Mike Myers, Brittany Murphy, and many more) so it’s not exactly any shock that she would be getting big bucks to do this sequel. And really, who cares who’s in the dang movie and/or what they’re getting paid, as long as the movie is GREAT when it does eventually come out, seriously, what else matters?!? Exactly, nothing. Julia has a point about how lots of the bigger actors will request larger salaries, as for Special fx, my dad and I were talking about it, and he said that in “An American Werewolf in London” the didn’t have the computer graphics we do today, and Thier fx turned out great! They just used makeup. Like in Narnia.

I am so upset to here that, I was really hoping there’d choose someone else.
Anyway, I have a list of reasons why Dakota should not, under any circumstances play jane:
1. she is simply too recognizable to fit in harmoniously with the rest of the previously-unknown cast. Fans want to see Jane, not Dakota Fanning-stars-as Jane.
2.it will be at least three years before filming for “Breaking Dawn” is finished. Ms. Fanning is at an age where growth and physical changes occur rapidly. The character of Jane is supposed to be an immortal vampire, physically frozen and unchanging. It would be very difficult to make Jane appear unchanging in all three movies if she is portrayed by someone who is in the stages of high-speed physical development in real life.
3.the choice of Dakota Fanning is - excuse our candor - moronically obvious. Many of the same people that are for Dakota as Jane also agree that Alan Rickman should play Aro, that Ian McKellan should be Marcus, and that Christopher Lee should be Caius. These fans are only able to come up with famous actors who they are already familiar with, and who have already played similar roles in other films. Dakota Fanning is the first person EVERYONE thought of - not because she was the unanimous first choice, but because she is simply one of only a handful of commonly recognizable child actresses, and because she has already played the role of “wise-beyond-her-years, jaded monotone” many times. Hiring Dakota Fanning to play Jane would showcase an utter, embarrassing lack of creativity on the part of the filmmakers.
There you have it people, I hope you think anout this changes you’re minds about Dakota because I am very upset and sad about this choice and I just want everything to be perfect for New moon.
I haven’t heard much about this Dakota excpet that she ’s quite young ? i really do hope she does a good job on Jane ; if she can act like an evil little witch and look fierce 24 / 7 then that ’s alright by me ! =] o x

i love the twilight movies but she would totally ruin it this is THE WORST CHOICE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why would they so that the did a great job picking cast the first time but totally bommed this one
i think this is the stupidest choice ever no matter how good she is (i dont have any thing against her) she just can not be jane
Dakota Fanning is the best Jane there could be. Vote for Tom Felton to play Alec in New Moon at People.com. Type in Who should play Alec in New Moon and take a vote! GO TOM AND DAKOTA!!!!!
