ANA’S TWILIGHT MOVIE REVIEW
Midnight showing-
Can I first start off by saying that EVERYTHING BAD happens at a midnight showing! The movie didn’t start until 30 minutes after midnight because they couldn’t get the damn projector straight! But anyways, first things first that I’ve told EVERYONE, go into that movie with an OPEN-MIND. Forget it, it isn’t going to be like the book, nothing ever is, and frankly it would be boring if it would be word-for-word for the book. I’m going to start off with the bad just like you did and work my way up to the, “OME I LOVED THAT!!” RUSH-RUSH-RUSH!! That is my biggest complaint about this movie, everything was put on MEGA Fast Forward. Okay, I know, they can’t put every single detail in there, but come on! Just a little bit more! I swear it was like, “Bing-Bang-Boom, two days pass and they’re in love!” You can’t even tell the movie is two hours long unless you looked at your watch at the beginning and at the end of the movie, which is kind of a good thing, I love the fact that I didn’t want it to end, but still TOO fast. Secondly, it was a love-hate with the comic relief. When Edward first smelled Bella when she walked into Biology for the first time, I couldn’t help but laugh!!! He looked like he was about to PUKE! LMAO, but at the same time if you’ve read the partial draft of Midnight Sun, that isn’t a comic moment at all! He was literally DIEING! It was funny but at the same time it shouldn’t have been. But over all the comedy wasn’t bad. LOL at Jasper’s restraint!! Another thing we have to remember, BUDGET. It’s well known that this movie did NOT have a big budget hence the chessy special effects. Those could’ve been way better. But hey, what can we do? Just hope and pray that this movie makes enough money and that New Moon will have amazing were wolf effects. On with the good. Kristen sold me. She wasn’t perfect, but she isn’t the masochistic Bella I think she’d be. Overall she did a great job, very talented actress. So I give my stamp of approval on that girl, her snide comments and seriousness in real life doesn’t come into play too much in this movie. I loved Jacob and his infectious charm, personality, and that smile! Charlie became one of my favorites, he’s great!!! Angela, I love that girl. Eric was hilarious, I loved how they played the human’s parts up, it really makes you appreciate them. The most PERFECT moments were when the Cullens walk into the cafeteria the first time, when you see them through the windows all I can say is , “WHOA!” You can totally pick up on their angelic appearance from the get go and know that there is something special about them. EDWARD! SWOON UPON SWOON UPON SWOON!!!! I loved Bella’s determination to confront Edward in the “Confessions” scene, that was amazing!!! The baseball scene had to be one of my favorites!! Once Supermassive Blackhole by Muse came on it just tied in PERFECTLY! I LOVED Rosalie’s icy stares and fiestiness and Jacob’s thunderbolt stare at Edward in the prom scene. This movie also ended with the ULTIMATE cliff hanger, you think the actual book left you with one, well wait until the movie. The Victoria addition was an excellent idea. Oh! And the kissing scene was awesome!!! You those human hormones surfacing between the two of them AND Edward’s fighting urge to kill Bella. Overall HOT!
Mattne showing (2nd time)-
I didn’t think it was possible…but I fell in love with it even MORE! I recommend everyone do this. Not only will you know what to expect, but you’ll appreciate it a lot more. PLUS, I have to admit some things in the movie I wasn’t able to catch. There was some details that I missed! It was all due to the giddiness of the swooning and the fan girl squeels in the theater. Which I was one of them, so I was trying not to hyperventilate the first time, but let’s face it-YOU CAN’T help but SWOON once you see the Cullen men and yes, even Jacob every now and then. It’s unavoidable! THEY’RE RIDICULOUSLY GORGEOUS!!! But yes, I fell in love with it even more. So a due over is recommended to everyone-plus, give a chance for the sequals.
Overall, I’d give this movie a B. I personally loved it. Another thing I would recommend to people that haven’t seen it…you see this review I’m writing? You know that review from the movie you read on this mornings paper? And those rotten tomato critics? Take these reviews and FORGET ABOUT THEM. Shove them out the window. Has the movie trailors intrigued you to go see the movie? Are you eager to see the adaption brought to life? Then go see it, and be your OWN critic. Don’t listen to your friends, don’t listen to the Twi-hards out there that have the mentality of, “This movie has to be EXACTLY like the book.” Don’t even listen to the ones that say,”Go see it for Rob Pattinson,” go see this movie for YOU. Base your own review after YOU’VE seen it, not by he says she says. But DO take this advice, go to it with an open mind. And FINALLY…DON’T judge a book by it’s cover.
Lots of Love,
Ana- Dazzled since August 2008.

Is weird to go into the movie teather to watch a movie of a book you love so much and not to know what to expect. Even more when this book touched our lifes. Everybody should know that the books that are turned into movies are never the same as the book, and they are never going to be as good as the book.
I agree with you. I’m from Puerto Rico so the movie came out yesterday and after college I went with all my friends to watch it. The thing is a lot of them were guys that read the book and they were really critial. I couldn’t concentrate in all the movie, because they were making fun of everything, most of all Edward. They liked the books, but not the movie. I was so mad, because of them, and a little disapointed for the movie.
Today I decided to go with a friend that havent read the book, but wanted to see it so bad. The second time I could apreciate and see thing that I couldn’t the first time.
What I didnt like was that Rob acted to tortured and the story of how they fell in love happened so fast. After their first kiss in Bella’s bedroom, things started to get better.
I liked the human kids and how they werent left out. Eric was hilarious. I wished that the cullens had more participation in the movie. The running effects were kind of cheesy, but the ballet studio secene was awesome.
After all it was good. Is better to see the movie, before reading or hearing any review.
I totally agree with this review!! especially about the part that everything goes bad at midnight showings!!!! Our theater overbooked the show and had to put everyone else in a smaller theater, which wasn’t so bad, we got perfect seats and there was at least a seat between us and other people, except for the projector not working!!! or the reel.. or something!! point of story.. the movie started 30 min late. AT least i didn’t have to sit through all the previews, even though i did want to see the trailer for the new Harry Potter…
But the movie itself was AWSOME! not what i expected.. but still amazing!! I mean.. the whole time i think i was hyperventilating over Rob.. or Taylor.. or Kellan.. or JAckson.. or Peter… or all of them :] but mostly Rob of course!! But im happy i got to finally see the movie!! i went in with an open mind, like you saidm knowing the movie wouldn’t be exactly like the book.. i knew scenes got deleted, and scenes were changed.. but im happy.. i mean WE GOT A MOVIEEE! this couldv’e been some made-for-tv suckyy movie, but we got a major movie!!! I think we should just trust Stephenie, as she did approve of the movie, and know that it really did capture the essence of Twilight!!
Let’s just hope that the next movie can get a bigger budget for some cooler special effects……
definitly must see it twice!
For some reason it’s much much better.
I guess because we know what to expect.
Even the pace seems to be better.
Hey Ana, RIGHT ON! I’m glad I didn’t go to a midnight showing, your take on it summed up what I thought would happen. I went to TWO showings today, first at 10am, then at 1pm. You’re right about it, I was super psyched up about it and there were only about 10 people in the first show. My emotions were on end and I caught myself getting upset because of all the details left out but after pinching myself to come back to reality and understand that Melissa had to condense 500+ pages into 2 hours. It really makes you appreciate her and her tough job. I had favortie parts too, the confessional scene in the woods of course - my heart would skip a beat everytime Rob got in Kristens face. I’d seen Kristen in The Messengers and something else so I knew the kind of intensity she would bring to Bella and she didn’t disappoint. Her chemistry with Rob was over the top cool, and the supporting cast - Forks HS, Cullens and Quiluetes were outstanding!!! I was glad to hear that you laughed outloud for the first day in Biology class too but not at his nauseous look, it was her smelling her collar thinking she reeked!! I laughed both times. See it at least twice because I too fell more in love with it the 2nd time. OH, Charlie became a favorite of mine too. I’m ready for them to start making NEW Moon.
First I need to say WOW! That movie was amazing. I saw it last night with my BFF. It convinced her to read the book, finally made her give in. But I need to talk about the movie itself. It was, honestly, one of, if not the best movie I have ever seen. But I was very, very disappointed.
We all know it can’t be exactly like the book, but really. They cut out so much, and added so much that was so not needed and unimportant. What maddened me the most, was the speed of the first three quarters of the movie. They rushed through it WAY too much. I don’t think it properly showed how truly in love Bella and Edward were. I think there was a lot of overacting, and Bella’s personality didn’t come through well at all. She was too quiet and composed. I mean, I know that she is shy, but I mean around Edward. She is supposed to lose control around him, and I didn’t see that. Edward wasn’t the lighthearted, fun Edward he is when he is alone with Bella. I think the personalities were just not well projected into the movie. The meadow scene was supposed to be the scene that really meant so much. It’s where they really realize they can’t live without eachother, and that are so in love. But it lacked being the key moment in the love story between them, which i found just wrong. Then, at the first kiss, Bella loses control at first, but then Edward practically pounces on her as he pushes her back onto the bed, not pushing her away, but getting more into the kiss, before he realizes what he is doing. Bella’s supposed to the one who goes insane when they kiss. And Edward, I know he’s conserved and everything, but in the movie he was WAY TOO uptight. Around Bella, he should be teasing her and laughing, but I don’t think he laughed once in the whole movie. And Emmett is supposed to be fun and all, Alice is supposed to be really close to Edward, but you don’t get that at all, and Jasper doesn’t really say anything. One more scene that disappointed me was when Bella is leaving Charlie, she seems so together and composed. She should be crying and yelling, and angry, but she is just so calm. I hated it, I really did. That scene was just horrible.
Don’t get me wrong though, I did love a lot of parts. Rosalie’s personality was captured well, though the others weren’t. And Charlie was good. They gave him more of a part then I expected him to have, but I liked it. They really showed how much he’s glad that Bella is around now. Jessica was great. Her personality was perfect in the movie, and she was exactly how I imagined her. Mike was good too, I liked him and he was cute. Jacob I liked, and not just because Taylor is so hot. But Jacob lacked those little things that make him Jacob. Like wearing his hair in a ponytail. I liked Tyler, and how Charlie was mad at the hospital when Tyler tried to apoligize. That gave away more of Charlie’s personality, which was good. One of my favorites was when the Cullens walked into the lunch room, and she saw them for the first time. AMAZING! They all looked so perfect, so beautiful. Alice’s actress was amazing, but should have had more lines. I liked when Edward jumped over Bella’s truck while she was washing it, and randomly said, “I’m taking you to my place today.” That kind of showed his friendly teasing toward Bella. Another part that showed that lighthearted fun part of him I like was when he shows up at school with her that first day he drives her. I liked when Angela said, “Oh my God!” and then Bella said,”Everyone’s staring.” Edward said,”He’s not, nope he just looked.” Then he put his arm around her and said,”Well as long as I’m going to hell.” Then Bella blushed. Carlisle was just amazing! I loved his actor, his acting, his lines, he was just absolutely perfect! Same with Esme, just amazing, though all the Cullens could have had a few more lines, especially Esme and ALice. Esme because she only had one or two lines, and Alice because she is a really important character. The first kiss was incredibly amazing, but it was the first time that you realize that they’re actually supposed to be all out in love, when you should see that earlier. But still, the kiss was just like OMG! WOW! SWOON! OMG! I loved it. I liked the ballet studio scene. I thought it was really done well. How Alice and Edward resisted her blood, and then Edward found the strength to stop because of his love. That showed Edward really well. The hospital scene was good. I liked how they took a lot of lines right out of the book, and Bella and Edward’s alone time was beautiful. Her resisting Jacksonville and Edward giving in so easily was just perfect. It was so them. The prom scene was nice, but I really wanted to see Alice’s dress. It sounded so pretty in the book. I really thought they should have included that Bella didn’t know where they were going at first though. The kiss at the end was great! The best part was that they had Victoria watching them, and then walking away. But she should look angry at first, and then smile so you can watch her plan developing. But still, then it faded to black and white, and the end was perfect, amazing, best part of the whole movie.
Overall, I was disappointed and would give it C+ to a B-. The background music wasn’t good, and the special effects could have been better, though I know they didn’t have a large budget. A lot of people have said it was better the second time, so I think I’ll go again. But I loved the movie though it disappointed me, and would call it my favorite. But the book was so much better, and I suggest reading it before watching the movie, because you understand that the book really wasn’t well put on screen. But I loved the movie!!!
I don’t have time to read all the comments but I think your review was excellent. My BFF and I also gave it a solid B. And if you think that your midnight showing was whack, check out this crazy woman who was at my 7:00 p.m. showing AND the midnight showing before. We kept having to tell her to shut up because she was SO annoying!!!

Well, I’ll put my two cents in. I am coming from a slightly different perspective. My 13 (now 14)year old daughter introduced me to the book series after I had shared some of my old Anne Rice books with her. I really enjoyed the author’s new interpretation of the vampire love story-I thought the characters were engaging, the stories interesting and while I am 40… I am not dead and I could only imagine how great looking Edward was!
As a fan of the Ann Rice books you can imagine my total disgust after seeing the movie adaptation of The Vampire Lestat, it doesn’t bear discussing here, it should suffice to say they butchered an excellant book and it was barely recognizable as a story. With that as my prior experience I expected the movie adaptation of Twilight to be less than stellar. I was very wrong! We purchased tickets to see the midnight show, it started on time, for the most part the crowd of people that filled the theater was well behaved (that was a BIG shocker)and we really enjoyed it. They were as true to the book as they could be given the amount of time they had. Could they improve on effects? Absolutely, but now that the movie is a success they will have the funds to do better I loved how Charlie was portrayed, it was great acting and writing for his character. I want Bella/Kristen to stammer less and Edward/Rob to work on how he shows emotion-he was a bit tooooo stiff in some scenes. These are young actors-I’m sure next time will be even better. I give the film a B, B-. My daughter agrees.
In my opinion as someone who has read and re-read the series, the best thing you can do is let go of your expectations, see it and be open to the story as it is told here. The movie really does honor the book as much as it can but for those who haven’t read the book it should stand up as just a fun film…
i know the movie has been out and on dvd for a long time but i just saw it for the 1st time and waz annoyed at myself for pointing out how different the book was. It was pretty good but the kissing in bed thing was REALLY AWKARD ( idk how 2 spell sry) i was watchin with my bff who introduced me to the series we are both 12 and were grossed out by the kissing lol we were both putting our hands over our eyes when they were kissing in bellas room and at the prom and the same time me and her both said “tell me when it’s over!” lol. also, but was it just me or did it look like victoria’s coven was rollerblading into the clearing? i was annoyed how they changed the meadow thing and REALLY ANNOYED at how they skipped blood typing and didnt hav Jacob tell her the legends. I think Jessica Stanley and Jasper were portrayed the best except for how they made the hotel in phoenix scene so short. I loved Alice in the books and think her actress was good but got annoyed with myself cuz it was only Alice’s actress and had a hard time calming myself about how there is no real Alice and there never would be. Edward was so-so. but i also found myself laughing at certain parts, especially when Esme waz like ‘’we cooked italiano for you'’ and emmett waved the knife lol. and when Bella 1st meets Alice i said to my bff ‘’ Alice is just too cool'’. When i saw Jasper just standing there with Alice with that strange expression, i was laughing. the baseball scene was really good but victorias hair didnt look red, and James and Laurant are suppossed to hav cropped hair. I wished they had the part where Edward tells her about Carlisle’s history and how he lived with the Volturri, which reminds me, the scene where you see Carlisle turning Edward and Esme into vampires was really cool. Oh and the bella getting hit by Tyler’s car scene was dissapointing, bella was suppossed to crack her head on the parking lot and have Edward pinning her down. Also, why wasnt Alice’s hair black?
