ASK ALICE – EDWARD AND BELLA’S WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL PART 3: WEDDING DÉCOR

Posted August 27th, 2009 By: 4 Comments »

The bride has been given her “something borrowed”. The groom has given his final go to get that darn tie straight. And the final attendees have just pulled up the Cullen driveway. So I think that pretty much covers everything…wait! We’ve yet to cover the actual wedding all these people are getting ready for! Now without further ado… So the Cullen-Swan wedding was definitely something that wasn’t done half way. No-Alice made sure to make this event something to remember by starting with the flowers.

“Orange blossoms…freesias…” it’s amazing how Bella pinpointed those two flowers while they were amongst lilacs and roses as well. They all have quite the fragrance to them. I could definitely see these hanging in garlands from the ceiling at the Cullen house. Being an aspiring wedding planner myself, I would more than likely bet my life that Alice kept color scheme in mind when it came to choosing these particular buds. Orange blossoms and lilacs may only come in one color but that’s not the case for roses or freesias. Cream roses would be my choice and I’ll keep the freesias a similar color to their twin-like flower.

While I love the new modern Cullen house in the film version of the books (seriously, that’s my kind of style) I don’t see a wedding ceremony going on there, unless they plan on changing the house model which is unlikely. But I could definitely picture something outdoors. That kind of landscape outside would be a waste if not taken advantage of and the reception is already outside in the book. Now some people might think, “An outdoor ceremony, in the daylight, and with humans around??” Please… Bella and Edward’s wedding wouldn’t be anything if it wasn’t held on a day that was overcast.

If I recall correctly-I’ll wave my little white flag if I’m not-the reception was held outside in a tent. Or at least, if it wasn’t, I think it would be nice if it was. Especially, with the 90% chance of rain they have year-round. These pictures that I found I thought would be great examples of what I have in mind. And I believe it still keeps with the theme a bit. I could just picture Edward and Bella dancing to Flightless Bird American Mouth (You know, for old time’s sake) under those Chinese lanterns. Sigh…

Well, that about wraps up our wedding special! Em and I hope you enjoyed our little project here. We’ll be seeing you at the BD wedding! (You know it’s going to happen…)

ASK ALICE: EDWARD AND BELLA’S WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL PART 2: WEDDING PARTY AND GROOM’S WEAR

Posted August 20th, 2009 By: 10 Comments »

Last week, in our Wedding Spectacular, we focused on one of the, if not the most, important parts to any wedding, the bride’s wedding gown…namely Bella’s famous Anne of Green Gables/Edward inspired dress. After all, that was the happiest day of her life when her world finally made sense and she could finally begin her forever with her dashing groom, Edward. But what would an Alice Cullen-planned wedding be if the rest of the wedding party wasn’t dressed to the nines?

A bride should be complemented by her bridesmaids so that the attention remains on her…but in no means does this mean that the bridesmaids should wear hideous dresses!! If you think making your bridesmaids wear something unflattering will make you look better as a bride, think again, Bridezilla, because you’ll look even crazier than a 10,000 ft tall lizard. Look at it this way, when you look at your wedding pictures, don’t you want to see a beautiful scene? Having miserable bridesmaids in tacky outfits will draw the attention away from you and onto the monstrosities that they are wearing.

In Breaking Dawn, very little detail is given as to what the rest of the bridal party is wearing. We are only aware that that Rosalie and Alice’s dresses were ‘shimmery silver’ and like a ‘silvery waterfall’. With such sparse information, as devoted fans, we have more leeway in imagining what we think these dresses would have looked like.

Now, bridesmaid dresses come in all shapes and sizes and colors and fabrics. This, therefore, makes it easy to find a style to work with any theme. With the Anne of Green Gables idea in mind as well as Ana’s personal favorite (which also happens to be mine too) choice for Bella’s dress, I personally think that the bridesmaid dress would be mid-length and slightly less flowy than the wedding dress. This way there is still continuity to be a part of the wedding party as well as a visible difference to accentuate the bride. Here are a few that I liked the best:

Check out the styleboard here for some popular bridesmaid dress choices. Which one do you like?

Note: Bella only had Alice as a bridesmaid, but in many cases there are more. Not everyone will look good in the same dress, so don’t be afraid to have dresses of different styles but in the same color for each girl or even the same dress but different colors. Just make sure they complement each other and that everyone looks good together as a whole…especially the bride and groom.

When it comes to weddings, most people focus on just the ladies, however, finding the right suit or tuxedos for the groom and his groomsmen are just as important. Although it may seem that the men’s clothing is very generic there are actually many different types to choose from depending on the season and time of day of the ceremony. For more information of the different types, click here and here.

Given that Edward and Bella’s wedding took place on a late August afternoon, and the hint that we got that Charlie was wearing a pale gray tux, I think that Edward and Carlisle would have worn charcoal grey suits with silver vests and cummerbunds to match Alice’s dress. In keeping with the time period of the 1920s that Alice based Bella’s dress on, I’m thinking that the suits would have looked something like this:

ASK ALICE: EDWARD AND BELLA’S WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL PART 1: BELLA’S WEDDING GOWN

Posted August 13th, 2009 By: 19 Comments »

The time has come for Edward and Bella’s one year wedding anniversary!! Who would’ve thought they’d last this long, right? KIDDING!! So in light of our favorite couple’s celebration of their union, Em and I will be bringing you a series of compilations for Edward and Bella’s wedding for the next couple of weeks. This week we’re kicking it off with Bella’s wedding gown and what we think it looked like in Breaking Dawn and possibly pitch ideas for the movie.

So in the book, Bella always thought of her ideal wedding dress being similar to an Anne of Green Gables design:

Alice had Bella’s gown custom made to fit her tastes while still keeping in mind that it’s the 21st century that they’re/we’re living in. It’s clear that Bella wouldn’t be the kind of girl that would want something that looked more like a ball gown, go completely strapless and exposed her back. She’s want gown that looks as simple as possible while still staying chic (mandatory by Alice). Sleeves would be a must, and something a little bit form fitting so she can feel like it’s just a normal floor-length dress.

Here’s a style that I could definitely see Bella wearing and my personal favorite out of the many that were searched:

To check out other alternate wedding gowns fit for Bella click here!

So which dress is your favorite? Any other designs you have in mind of what Bella’s wedding gown would look like? What would you like to see Bella wear in the movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (fingers crossed)?

ASK ALICE: I HATE CROCS

Posted August 6th, 2009 By: Evie 18 Comments »

Em is back this week for Ask Alice to discuss a topic she’s not too fond of…

Last week, I mentioned how regardless what the trend is, there will be those who love it as well as those who loathe it. Well, this week I decided to discuss a trend that I absolutely hate with an intensity of a thousand suns…almost as much as I dislike Jacob (Team Edward all the way baby!!! J)…Crocs.

If you are lucky enough to not know what I’m talking about, then praise the almighty that this monstrosity hasn’t infected the entire world yet…but one should also be prepared with the atrocities that are out there. Think of this as a PSA…DON”T BUY CROCS!!! But if you do have them…DON’T WEAR CROCS IN PUBLIC!!!

Crocs are plastic clogs that were originally designed to be worn at the spa. Think of it this way….at a spa you wear fluffy terry cloth robes and footwear that is waterproof (hence Crocs being plastic are ideal)…if you don’t wear fluffy robes in public, then you shouldn’t wear Crocs either. I understand the practicality of the Crocs, but, as with any piece of clothing, there has to be balance between that and style…and unfortunately, Crocs don’t have an ounce of style to them. They are bulbous plastic cages for your feet and they smell funny…haha…like a certain mongrel. ;p

Now in recent years, Crocs have come out with a few new designs that are at least more stylish than the original clog, but they are still a long ways away from anything anyone with some self-respect should wear out in public when not at a car wash or on the beach. Something about plain plastic shoes just isn’t right. Your tender tootsies carry the weight of you and the world on them…don’t they deserve luxurious leather and other natural materials that will be gentle and ever so fabulous looking?

Seriously, what is so great about Crocs? Croc-lovers, please let us know. I mean there is an actual website called “I Hate Crocs” and a Facebook group with over a million members that hate them. That’s a lot of hate there. Let us know what the appeal is if you can.

ASK ALICE – GLADIATOR SANDALS

Posted July 30th, 2009 By: flick 3 Comments »

Buon giorno all!! I am finally back from holidays and ready to gush about all the fun fashion that I have seen on my travels. This week: Gladiator Sandals.

Sandals – The summer-go-to shoe that is comfortable and refreshing for the sole/soul…yet all they are can be best described as pieces of material wrapped around your feet.

Gladiators – strong men in arenas facing challenges larger than life, like tigers and other gladiators out for the kill.

But united together, these are the flat soled sandals that you can imagine the Romans wearing under their togas. And, as of recent years, have come to a mall near you as summer fashion statements for women.

Gladiator Sandals

Essentially, gladiator sandals are extra strappy sandals, as compared with the old flip flop, with straps holding them to your foot and climbing up your calves as well. An elegant way of covering up one’s legs back in an era devoid of trousers, I suppose, but today, they have evolved ranging from ankle length to boots making them more versatile.

Gladiator sandals & Appropriate clothing

For the most part, gladiator sandals will look nice on everyone. In fact, on a good pair of legs, they look amazingly hot. But it has to be worn with the appropriate clothing, like dresses or shorts above the knee. There is no point in wearing gladiator sandals, unless the calf is visible. Pants of inappropriate length are a complete no-no for these age old style statements as they throw off the proportions. These were originally meant to be worn with a toga where one’s legs would be exposed….if not what would be the point? It would be like wearing a tank top on top of a t-shirt in the summer…seriously, that is just wrong! As with many pieces of clothing, if you don’t have the confidence to pull it off, it will show and you will simply look like a disaster. Better to stick with things you feel good in.

As simple as gladiator sandals were originally…they can be overdone in our modern world. Traditional gladiators are flat soled with leather straps and buckles to hold ones feet in place. This is rarely the case now. Nowdays, gladiator sandals are also made with heels…which I actually prefer since I can’t stand a flat shoe, but that’s just me. However, when the gladiator style borderline meets bondage…that is when one needs to be careful. With gladiator sandals, there is a fine line between style and not knowing style. As mentioned earlier, when wearing a gladiator sandal or any shoe for that matter, one should be confident of the pair chosen and how it is worn.

Gladiator sandals elicit a lot of reaction. They are a style statement, and as with any such statement, they are either loved or hated. There are those who hate gladiators, however, there are just as many people in the world who love gladiator sandals.
