TA TALKS BACK: CAN ROB ACT???
TA fan Jen writes in about Rob’s acting skills:
For many a Twilighter, the name Robert Pattinson meant little until the man who’s now become the obsession of every teen and 20-something (and, in some cases, their mothers) hit the screen as the ideal man – okay, if you forget he’s a blood-thirsty vampire. But no matter how popular he’s become with the tweens or how hotly he’s pursued by the paparazzi, the question remains – is Robert Pattinson’s appeal merely the infatuation of the female audience or can he actually act?Based on reviews for his recently-released “Little Ashes,” it depends on who you ask. While the London Daily Express calls his portray of the late Salvador Dali “a spirited performance,” others, like MTV’s Kurt Loder thought the film collapsed as soon as Pattison – dressed to look like a foppishly twisted version of Little Lord Fauntleroy – appeared on screen.

Yes. Besides his handsome appearance, he is a great actor also!!!
If I could get my hands on any of his movies- maybe I’d be able to answer this question! They’re super-unavailalbe.
Right! I can’t seem to find any of his movies anywhere but Youtube and honestly, it’s not that great watching it on there. It’d be nice if they’d actually release some of his stuff in the states for once and then it might prolong the life of my Twilight DVD.
Well, I’ve seen at least 6 Rob movies and own 4. I’d say the kid is a committed actor and puts his all into his roles.
That, my friend, is good acting.
I find that the critics’ opinions are divided by the pond (aka the Atlantic Ocean). Most of the critics in the UK like the movie, while most of those in North America don’t. I plan to see the movie tomorrow so perhaps I will have a better opinion by this time tomorrow. But I have a feeling that there’s something in this movie that is so European that the us poor North Americans don’t understand.
But back to the original question — I do believe he can act, but he hasn’t worked on a lot of good projects to list on his resume. I really liked him in “The Haunted Airman”. The project that he’s going to involve in, besides “The Twilight Saga”, sound great. Actors like Leo DiCaprio or Kate Winslet did some weird projects after they got VERY famous, and then come back some 5 or 7 years to become one of the best actors of the generation. I can see Rob doing the same if he will choose his projects wisely. Meanwhile, I can’t see Zac Eforn doing the same yet… I see him becoming another Matthew Perry perhaps.
Critics do just that they criticize and especially those that are new on the scene and unproven. I have seen some great actors in some pretty bad pictures, it can not all be laid at the feet of the actor if the script or director stinks.
Rob is young in his profession and will be learning as he goes along, he has very diverse roles coming up in the next year and I think we will see just how talented he is. The fact that he brought Edward Cullen to life for fans of the books (many are not tweens)is a tribute to his talent. It is very difficult to portray a character that is so loved by so many, hence the initial negative energy towards Rob playing Edward at all.
Rob will prove them all wrong, he is multi talented, humble and attentive to his craft, and he seems to have his head screwed on right.
Go Rob and make the critics eat their words after all most of the A List Actors today have been in your place.
He’s a good actor. I’m sure in time he will be a great actor. Their just jealous.
Im with Wen.
He is testing his talents in different roles at the moment. Some he will pull off. Some he wont. Its all part of the learning.
He will find his niche.
Mind you its a lot easier on the eyes to Watch him as a handsome Vampire than a scrawny Salvador Dali. But thats just MY taste lol
You know, I really feel everyone fell in love with Rob because of his Acting in Twilight. OK, the movie it self didn’t compare to the book, but with Robert as Edward,I fell in love with him on that screen. To me, he was so believable, loving Bella,I was in awe! That’s why people think he’s really dating Kristen. Then I saw “HOW TO BE” loved him more and now in “LITTLE ASHES”, AMAZING. He was so into that role, and studied so hard for it{read what he did before they filmed the movie},that now people are saying he is gay. How pathetic these idiots are! But I guess, when an actor can be that convincing,it means, THEY CAN ACT!
I wouldn’t be as infatuated with Rob as I am now if he wasn’t talented. Yes, he is gorgeous, but there are plenty of other hot guys in Hollywood as well who I don’t follow as obsessively because they really don’t have the talent to allow them to be diverse. Rob has the ability to actually become different characters to where you forget he is even Rob or even forget he even played Edward Cullen, the character that made me notice him in the first place. I have actually seen his other work in “Harry Potter”, “The Haunted Airman”, “How to Be”, and “The Bad Mother’s Handbook”. I wish I could see “Little Ashes” as well, but unfortunately my state was not one of the chosen ones to play it. I believe Rob has what it takes to have a long career in Hollywood and isn’t just some “Hollywood hunk of the moment with fabulous hair”.
MTV’s Kurt is just jealous because Robert is still learning to act and doing a wonderful job at it. He acts fine!
What do critics know anyway. If an audience is moved by an actors performance –than that’s a good actor. I could not imagine anyone else playing the part of Edward — Rob is awesome!
I think Rob is a wonderful actor. He is still very young, but has a great rage of emotions and is very believable in every role I’ve seen him in. Now as for Kristen Stewart, she gets way too much credit for her acting skills in my opinion. She is very one-diminsional and mumbles her lines so much that at times, she is hard to understand.
yeah
