TA TALKS BACK: twiLIGHTING IT UP ON THE NEW MOON MOVIE SET

TA has seen passionate discussion about the cast smoking on the New Moon movie set. Three fans (TwiMom5404, Platypuzz and Kelsea) weigh in:

The Outrage of Catching the Cast Smoking by TwiMom5404

The message boards are lighting up with fans (some old, some young) complaining a about what a bad example the Twilight cast is setting by allowing themselves to be photographed in public with cigarettes in their hands.

Heavy Sigh.

And I really thought our days of over zealous political correctness had seen their crest and that the tide was beginning to turn in the other direction. Looks like I was wrong. Again. Someone alert the media.

Don’t misunderstand me, smoking is an unhealthy, expensive and nasty habit.

Ta fan Platypuzz created an image on the smoking issue:

There has been much talk about the recent uploaded photos from the New Moon set.

“Taylor looks soooooo HOT!”

“Nikki’s wig looks…..okay.”

“Where is Elizabeth Reaser?”

“Rob’s hair looks too short.”

“Ashley and Kristen look amazing!”

“They all look fake.”

And so on, and so on, and so on. But the one thing that people cannot stop talking about is the smoking.

I truly think that people need to just BACK OFF!!!!! What ever vices these folks have is THEIRS!!!! Not yours!! Enough with the righteous acts!!!!!

  2. melinda e gallicchio responded:

OK get over it! Actors smoke because of stress and being too busy to eat. Deal! people still smoke, kids still try it. It’s like a right of passage. Who cares if their smoking when there are much more pressing things to bitch about! Sorry i just thin it’s ridiculous!

  3. Jenavive responded:

Elisa I completely agree! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the subject and this is mine. People are making too big a deal about the cast smoking. Guess what people? Smoking does not affect acting skills so what does it matter. They are all 18+ so they can smoke if they want to. It is not your choice what they do with their lives. If you think it is setting a bad example then don’t let your child see the pictures it is that simple. There are pics where noone is smoking in them. Every little detail is getting cruitinized by the media and fans and it is ridiculous. Just leave them alone.

  4. momatu responded:

They are actors who shouldn’t be role models anyway. Bottom line: role modeling is the job of the parents, not actors being paid to portray unrealistic people. It’s unrealistic expectations put on people and I think it’s ridiculous.

  5. monica responded:

BOTTOM LINE: role modeling should be left to parents, not actors portraying unrealistic people. your children are faced with worse decisions on a daily basis, just educate them and guide them to smart choices, but don’t expect other people to set the example for YOUR CHILDREN.

  6. Kylene responded:

I am not a smoker and I have always found it very unattractive. However, the photo taken by Nathaniel Goldberg for GQ magazine…you know the one. Robert Pattinson, with the gorgeous hair, seductive eyes, holding a cigarette between his middle finger and thumb. Is ridiculous sexy! He sure has a way of making that nasty habit look HOT!

  7. meloni responded:

    everyone smokes…

  8. cate responded:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. My opinion just happens to be that I wish so many of the cast didn’t smoke, given the health risks. I care about these people and I want them to live long and happy lives. I understand that they have freedom of choice. Their choice to smoke just makes me sad that’s all. It’s people who don’t think we should make comments against smoking who need to back off. Enough with the yelling!!!!!

  9. julia responded:

I don’t really care about the “role model” bull**** but I definitely think that if someone smokes around you and it bothers you, you have every right to complain about it (especially when you can’t move away for some reason). So if Taylor, for instance, is bothered by the smoking, then he should have the right to complain so that the other actors don’t do it around him. This is just an example. Smoking does affect the people around those who do it.

  10. Angelica responded:

I agree with Monica. If you equip your kids with the proper foundation and EXAMPLE (and a mulitude of other necessities I won’t droll on about)- there should be no crying about what they are exposed to. Here’s a tip parents- MAKE THE TIME to supervise what your kids see and discuss what they’re thinking about it. I’m not going to get any more preachy. Blah.

BUT ( :P ) I do have to say that so MANY shots of ONE smoking break gets… tiresome. Not the actors fault. Blame it on the pappz. :)

  11. Erica responded:

Hey I am a smoker. Yes I agree that it is a nasty habit and I have tried to quit. Do I think the cast should be condemned for their actions? Of course not. They are grown adults people!! Get off of your high horses and deal with the facts that the reality is that of most of the cast smokes. Does it change there ability to act? NO. They are the same people that you think you know and love, but they just smoke. Get over it !!

  12. Jesse responded:

Well I think the most of the cast didnt get the memo…
    That smoking is DISGUSTING.
Should people be upset that they were caught in photos smoking?
NO. A lot of people in the world smoke. I dont condone it, and I hate it, but its their bodies and their choice. Our opinions dont hold sway over other peoples lives. The whole cigs help with hunger… is a moronic excuse for people who smoke.. Id rather be fat than get lung cancer. Just saying. Smoking is an addiction and it just makes you look weak. Should the fact that they smoke have anything do to with being a fan of the movie or them? NO. Just because they make a poor choice, doesnt make them any less talented actors, or anything to do with the movie.

  13. oretha responded:

When they are doing publicity interviews or what have you they don’t smoke. When they are on their own time in something that really doesn’t involve us its none of our business.

Really, if you look at those pictures they were taken without consent which by the way is a tad insulting and justa little voyeuristic. Besides that, so what that they have cigarettes and grab a smoke. All of those involved are adults. If they choose to light up that is on them. I am not a smoker and I just lost my mom just 8 short months ago to it so I have no love for the habit. It’s still their own personal habit and NOT our business.

  14. Christie responded:

This is a really hard topic for me. My aunt just died last November due to complications from smoking, and my mom is on oxygen and dying for the same reason. So while I agree the cast have the right to smoke if they choose to - and I ABSOLUTELY agree that parents need to step it up and being role models instead of relying on celebrities, teachers, etc. - it makes me sad and I wish they wouldn’t. I have seen first-hand the effect that smoking can have and I would hate to think of any of these talented people possibly cutting their life short.

  15. Midori responded:

I really hate these pictures of the cast smoking, but they are all legal age. It’s a proven fact that those who continue to smoke have a shorter life span. Smoking is a naster habit to have, and a hard habit to break. It may seem cool, but it’s not! I adore the cast, this doesn’t change my feelings about them, they are all great!

  16. alisa responded:

They’re actors, not role models. The only difference between them and the rest of working America is they’re in a fish bowl (and make a hell of a lot more money).

    Back off.

  17. Amanda responded:

What people are not getting at is that it doesn’t only affect them.
It affects the people around them, their family, and their friends. And even their future family and friends, if that makes sense. When someone is diagnosed with emphazyma(spelling?) or lung cancer, it isn’t their lives that are the only ones affected, it is the lives of all their loved ones that is affected as well. Tobacco is a drug and people aren’t getting that. Smoking will end their lives sooner than it should be ended.

And looking at these pictures, I don’t care for those actors anymore. I decided a long time ago that if someone were to be able to kill themselves knowingly in a slow and painful way, that I will definetly not have respect for them.

    And that is my opinion.

  18. BostonCullenFan responded:

I feel bad for people making such a big deal out of their smoking. I’m sure each and everyone knows the dangers of smoking, and they still do it. It’s not my place to worry about what they are doing in their lives. It does make them less appealling, though (hey, it makes Rob a 9 instead of a 10 in my book ;)

That being said, like it or not, they are role models. It comes with the territory when you are a celebrity. When you’re a celebrity, people are going to look up to you and admire you and try to emulate you, especially when you have a large portion of your fan base being kids. I’m sure there will be kids out there who will smoke because Rob and Kristen smoke and so it must be cool (not Rob or Kristen’s fault or problem of course–more parents who don’t know what the heck their kids are doing, but that’s another story).

I’m not going to knock any of these actors and actresses for smoking. I’m not going to complain about the pictures I’ve seen of them smoking outside in front of their trailers when they were taking a break from their jobs or walking away from Starbucks with their morning coffee.

But I do have an issue with them posing for pictures with cigarettes in photo shoots. As I said, like it or not, they are role models for a lot of young kids, and posing for a picture for a photo shoot with a cigarette in their mouth or hand is just irresponsible and unnecessary.

  19. annaS responded:

I believe that we are not entitled to juge anybody’s habbit because we all have our weak points: over-eating, overdieting, not exercizing regularily… It is too easy to pinpoint only a few bad habbits like smoking and drinking, there are a lot of other unhealthy habbits on earth, and I’m sure that very few people don’t at least have one.

  20. Wendy responded:

It’s their choice to smoke. :(

  21. kelly responded:

IN MY OPINION, EVERYONE NEEDS TO “BUTT” OUT about the cast smoking! Come on guys, its NOT our/your lungs, its there decision, and they cant help it if a paparazzi snuck in and got pix of them while they were on there dang smoke break!!!! do you see them at the Twilight meet and greets with a cigarette hanging out there mouths? or when rob was tyra was he smoking a stogy there on stage?NO!!! Please i am so TIRED of hearing people wine about the cast smoking, are they smoking in the movies? NO, so you cant say there setting a bad example.they humans and have the HUMAN RIGHT to do whatever they want, and i think they deserve the respect to be LEFT ALONE and not called BAD INFLUENCES! That’s how I feel, sorry if you dont agree!

  22. Auie responded:

I’m not a smoker and I HATE smoking… but if these people like to warm up from the cold atmosphere then who cares? It’s their lives they’re trying to kill and why should we judge them coz of these. They’re old enough to think for themselves. At least they’re not doing it every single time they’re photographed. I just hope they’re not doing it everyday. So just let them live their lives…

  23. celcar responded:

OK people they are actors. They really are not Edward, Bella, Jacob, etc. Their down time belongs to them. They are NOT raising your children for you. You better find real people to be your child’s life model, hey what about you or are there things in your life you would not like your child to model.

  24. Caitlin Sarah responded:

OME who cares…hollywood is an extremely stressful business and if i was there eesh i would be somking everyday too! if thats what makes them calm then so freaking be it!! Its their life and its their bodies so leave them alone! Oh and WOW…they are ACTORS people lol Robert is NOT Edward Cullen…

  25. Midori responded:

You can’t dictate what people do…sure smoking is a nasty habit and I’m sure they all know that. Thirty years down the line when they get lung cancer, they’ll think, why did I smoke? It may be to late then. I think Taylor is the only one who doesn’t smoke, I haven’t seen him smoke. Children do what they want to do, no one forces them. I’m sure there are enough smokers around children that they are not influenced by the cast of Twilight. If the kids have their heads on right, they will choose the right path.

  26. lisa responded:

I can’t believe how many people are defending smoking.
I am not gonna condemn them for it but it was very dissapointing to see the cast puffing away. Smoking is not just nasty it’s pathetic and dangerous.

  27. kellanlutzandnikkireedluv responded:

ashley greene smokies too!! nikki reed and ashley greene are quiting!
