TA TALKS BACK: DID ALICE REALLY NOT SEE THAT?

TA member Anitamichichi talks about Alice’s premonitions before the infamous birthday party.

Did Alice really not see that? by Anitamichichi

In light of New Moon well under production, and the very anticipated birthday scene I’m looking forward to. Here’s something to get all you TAers thinking-it’s something I’ve really been curious about lately.

This thought came to me when I strolled upon a fanfic that was spinning off of Alice’s P.O.V. during the tragic birthday scene in New Moon. The writer wrote Alice’s thoughts that go more along the lines of her seeing the possibility of Jasper attacking Bella but she cast the premonition aside thinking Jasper would never do such a thing. Ever since I read that, my mind has been constantly bickering at me with the thought.

So my question is, did Alice really not see that? Now, before some of you jump to conclusions, I am not trying to say that Alice would’ve let Bella get attacked (Puh-lease. I’m convinced Alice fell in love with Bella way before Edward even did!) if she did see Jasper’s decision set (The outcome of Bella being attacked was a “snap” decision from Jasper after all).

I do think that that was a snap decision that was made on jaspers part and by the time that she seen it, if she did see it, it was too late for anyone do to anything any quicker then what was already done you know
    ?

  • wen

Alice didn’t see this happen because she cannot see things when things are not planned (i.e. Bella cutting her finger) and when people make snap decisions such as Jasper lunging at Bella.

  • rina

Funny, I was recently thinking about this. But I came to the conclusion that Jasper would have made the decision right as Bella was cut…and since Alice’s visions change when the people change their minds…she couldn’t have really known I guess.

  • Forever a Twilighter

No, I don’t believe that she saw it coming. That was the biggest kind of snap decision. Actually, I don’t even consider it a decision on Jasper’s part. It was more like a primitive instinct. Jasper would never make a decision of any kind to hurt Bella, in my opinion anyway.

I don’t think that Alice could have seen this happening because there was not ‘decision’ for Bella to make. She sliced her finger, it wasn’t a choice she could make to either slice or not slice. Alice probably didn’t see Jasper because of how fast it all happened. She may have seen it happen just a split second before it actually happened, like Edward heard his thoughts a split second before he attacked, but I don’t think that Alice could have seen this happen! Great question though! I love discussions like this! :)

    Alice did see Jasper’s desicion.
If you remember Edward gasps and throws her onto the table BECAUSE what Alice saw. No one planned for Bella to cut her finger so there was no way Alice could have seen it any faster. =[
She does have limits ya know

bella didn’t PLAN on cutting her finger so Alice could not have seen it. Alice can only see decisions after they are made. Jasper made a really quick decision to go after bella instinctively and Alice was as surprised as anyone.

  • Forever a Twilighter

I don’t think it ever says that Edward saw what Alice saw. He could have easily heard the change in Jasper’s thoughts. That’s always what I thought happened. I don’t think Alice had time to see anything unless it was a split second before it actually happened. But still, I don’t think she saw it.

I thought that Jasper was the one that knocked Bella onto the table. It wasn’t Edward was it?

  • Team RCatz

I think there were two snap decisions involved: the first was how Bella decided to open her present, thereby slicing her finger in an unexpected way. The second snap decision was Jasper’s. And both of them barely had time to make a blip on Alice’s radar before they were already fait accompli (done deals).

well it’s kidna of obivosu isn’t it/ a twihard knwis this (not that I’m say you’re ont a trueh twihard). rmember in the first books and hte movie, eDwad mentioned that Alice can olny se soemthign once a decison has been made. howeveri t cna still changei f someone suddnely hcanges their mind. she does’nt see if it’s not planned

  • love bird

I don’t think Alice could have seen it, because the moment she did Edward would have too. Then Edward would have hightailed Bella out of there so fast Jasper wouldn’t have had the chance to attack in the first place. Bella might not have even cut her finger in the first place if Alice saw that. So I don’t think there is any way Alice had a vision about Jasper’s attack.

  • twilight_addict

i agree with (forever a twilighter) i doubt jasper would have made a desicion to hurt bella…..his instinct just took over…….at least thats my opinion.. :)

but (wen), bella didnt DECIDE to cut her finger! alice can see accidents and bella cutting herself was an accident. the only things she cant see are snap decisions and werewolves.
