TA TALKS BACK: IT STILL BOTHERS ME
You’ve read the book, seen the movie and watched the DVD. Is there anything about the movie that you wish were different? TA fan JW Healy explains the relationship between Edward and Bella.
I love the Twilight Universe. I read the book six or so times. I saw the movie in theaters eight times. I bought three copies of the DVD and watched them several times since I brought them home. However, even though I clearly love the movie, there’s something about it that still bothers me.To me, the filmmakers didn’t take enough care to establish the unbreakable bond of love that develops between Bella and Edward. “Develops” is the operative word here. In the movie, director Catherine Hardwicke and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg devote exactly ONE scene to this critical development. (It’s the scene in the biology classroom when they first meet.)

I agree, The book gave so much more than the movie. People I talked with who hadn’t read the book didn’t get it. Those who did liked the movie, but it could have been so much more! Sometimes you have to go for the real feeling, not just take a quick whack at it. It wouldn’t have been that hard to add a couple more scenes, and take out that stupid bus trip one…
I agree too. I adore the movie- but I only think I like it as much as I do because I know the missing parts. I made a big deal of it and the three people I took to see it all of whom had not read the books were like “um… ok… wth?”
They didn’t get it either. I sent them home to read the books! LOL
I do like the movie… but yeah… lots could have been done to make the “have to be with this person forever” part really come through so that people who hadn’t read the books would “get it”.
Yeah I agree, like, I know millions of people say this but they look so stiff and just, sort of uncomfortable. And I KNOW that Kristen and Robert is capable of bringing out the true characters of Bella and Edward, it’s just, they didn’t because of the directors and writers and I get that they can’t put all the scenes that’s in the book in the movie, but still, They could put some effort into it to actually make this book come into reality. I love the movie and the characters and everything is perfect! I just want them to seem as if they’re literally inlove and close. And advice to those who have seen the movie but read the books, READ the books, because so many of my friends are like ‘I don’t get it? He looks at her with so much intensity, they don’t look inlove’ and people would def’s be like what the hell is all this about like why does everyone love their relationship? because if You read the books, You’ll see much more in your head than what the movie shows, so hopefully New Moon will bring the characters out more because I want to see all these pictures in my head on the screens,
I liked the movie after I watched it a couple times, but I had that same disappointment. The love that Edward and Bella developed for each other didn’t seem to be there. I didn’t believe they were in love like I did in the book. Also, I felt that Kristen’s performance was flat…which didn’t help the cause at all…
I adore the movoe. and the acotrs. Itink the lvoe was proateye,d would it haven een ice, if Edwar siad I lvoe yes but the same he di when he said you are my life now.which is says I’m in lvoe iwth which for ocpupesl is the smae is saying I lvoe you. thedo I dazzle qouite it would been nice and they should left some of the dleted secnes in there spcially the one in forest.
I know exactly how you feel, it seemed like they just fell in love without actually doing anything together. But then…I don’t care much for “love at first sight”.
loved the movie, but it always felt like half was missing. so this all makes since
Yes, it was very Titanic-esque…..no real story about why they are in love. We just have to accept that they are. If you didn’t read the book, it isn’t convincing. My FIL, who didn’t read the books, said, “I don’t buy the love story.”
