TA TALKS BACK: THE TWILIGHT HYPE

TA fan Jenny explores the Twilight hype:

THE Twilight Hype by Jen (aka zenny76)

I never intended to get caught up in the “Twilight” hype. In fact, when I first heard about the series (on the eve of “Breaking Dawn’s” release) I chuckled at the books’ premise.

Flash forward to the present and I’ve read the complete series more than a few times over, much to the chagrin of friends and family. I had high hopes for the film and, for the most part, didn’t walk away disappointed – that is, until I watched the director commentary as a DVD extra.

To have Catherine Hardwicke say, point blank, that certain things look better when special effects aren’t too involved was disheartening. While I admire her ability to portray teenagers with a fair amount of accuracy (let’s face it, the literary Bella was more than a bit out-of-touch with today’s 17 year old), her ability and/or willingness to employ a greater amount of CGI and other effects made me wonder why Summit chose her in the first place.

I think Catherine did a wonderful job, especially with the budget she had to work with. I think all parties involved, including the actors, worked really hard to portray the heart of the story without getting caught up in special effects. It’s great that the movie was so widely received, but I’m hoping that Chris Weitz doesn’t go all “Hollywood” with New Moon. The not so big name actors, independent label music, and even the little known director are what made Twilight so special to me.

Shannon, You said everything perfect. No Big names and Catherine are what made Twilight so Very Special to All of Us at TA, and Many More Fans all over the Globe. Anyone with negative comments like the story above, should take them some where else in my opinion. Jen (aka zenny76), If you didn’t like the way Twilight was made or Bella was portrayed, then why continue to write about it negativly and keep up on the news????

agree with the response above! It was and is a great movie with the heart of the book! Her article is her opinion and too bad she feels that way! Cause she doesn’t see the amazing product of twilight!! I’m excited about this next one and Im more than positive Summit Entertainment won’t dissapoint us but have us applauding their great choices, and great actoes and eople involved in making our fabolous Saga come to life!
