TA TALKS BACK: NEW MOON TRAILER…FIRST THOUGHTS

Posted June 4th, 2009 By: 7 Comments »

We’ve all watched it numerous times by now. So, what did you think about the first NEW MOON trailer? Here’s my opinion…:

NEW MOON TRAILER…FIRST THOUGHTS By JW Healy

Like all the breathless TWILIGHT fans in the universe, my heart stopped cold when ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT released the first 14 seconds of the NEW MOON trailer. The overhead shot of Forks, those familiar moody chords, that old red Chevy driving up to the front of Bella’s house – I was ready for NEW MOON excitement. And, then, when Bella asks Edward to kiss her – and he complies in that sultry, sexy way – my stopped heart began fluttering uncontrollably. It was an exciting 14 seconds, to be sure.

So what about the rest of the trailer that was unveiled at the MTV Movie Awards? Unfortunately, the excitement level and quality of the trailer didn’t match those first 14 seconds. There are several reasons why I feel this way and they run the gamut from acting to writing to directing.

Let’s start with the actors. The performances of Rob Pattison and Kristen Stewart are wooden, at best. I understand that the scenes selected for the trailer involve Edward breaking up with Bella and these are designed to be quiet moments.

First of all.. when Edward breaks up with Bella.. in the book she doesnt cry.. and Edward is SUPPOSED to look that way because he wants her to believe he doesnt want her anymore, there isnt supposed to be any visible heartache. You cant SHOW internal conflict.. its internal and we dont learn about it until the end of the book.
These are just tiny bits and pieces all pieced together to make a trailer, they didnt HAVE to show us a trailer this soon but they did, Just because what you see in the trailer isn’t your preferance, doesnt mean that when you watch the movie it will be exactly the same, they havent even finished editing yet. The lighting will probably all be the same as the first movie, and who cares if it isn’t? It’s not TWILIGHT… it’s NEW MOON… a completely different story with a completely different atmosphere.

I think what we all have to keep in mind is the fact, that it’s probably too early to judge the quality of the movie, because they obviously used the very first shoots, probably not even finaly edited.

But, I must say, that I was both impresed and dissapointed with certaing things. First, as you already said – Jacob’s wolf. I expected a russet-coloured wolf, and this one is like, too colored for what I imagined.
Next – the overall scene, or the color of the scene with Laurent. In Twilight, I always had a feeling that the whole movie is somehow covered with bluish layer. It kind off bothered me, because e.g. – vamipers’ eyes which are supposed to be bright red, are only visible as red when they shoot a close-up of Laurent in the baseball scene. In the trailer, Laurent has clearly red eyes, and looks so vampire-like that i was absolutely AMAZED. And I also think that the Cullen’s eyes will be more visible and beautiful in this kind of scenes.

I hope the break up scene will be a little more intense. I realize that Bella wasn’t crying (although if I remember correctly, she did scream his name the first moments), but all the suffering was happening inside of her head, and I realy realy hope they will be able to bring that to screen properly, to picture her pain so we could feel it too.
As for Edward, my opinion was, that he had to be emotionless in those moments of break-up to convince her he didn’t want her anymore, but Edward in the trailer looks too heartbroken. He should look indiferent, like he didn’t care anymore.
The birthday scene was wonderfull, by the way
Well, that’s my opinion But I already feel the way Rob said, that New Moon feels like a big movie, while Twilight didn’t so much (it was still great, don’t get me wrong!).

Despite the facts, I can’t wait for the november to come, and for the final trailer with some scenes from Italy

I think it’s to ealry to make any judgements about the movie. It’s impossible to judge a two hour movie by one minute and 48 seconds worth of clips.

The one thing I do agree with though is Kristen Stewert is a very wooden actress. If you’ve seen her in any other movies it’s clear that she doesnt change for the character. She acts just as awkward as she does in real life.

Bella is supposed to be happy in the middle to end of Twilight and very beginning of New Moon. She’s in love! The whole time I watched Twilight though, I just didn’t buy it. She continues to talk in her monotonous tone and blank face. She never smiles or changes her voice from sounding bored and miserable.

Hopefully that changes but I really don’t think it will…

The only issue I had was that Jakes wolf was too cartoonish looking for me. I pictured him huge, like a horse, fierce with razor sharp teeth, and completely russet colored. Other then that, it was AWSOME!

I can not belive everyones already picking it apart already. It’s so early, Im positive the scenes were just slapped together at the last minute for the award show. Uncut and un-edited.

I loved the coloring of the film, so much richer looking, which goes with the warm theme of the wolf pack verses the cold vampires.

I was blown away by Laraunt! Even his voice was better. Edward and the goodbye scene was wonderful in my opinion. We knew while reading it that Edward didnt leave because he was bored with Bella. I guess I prefer this version of goodbye verses the original way.

My happiest moment was how much better the Cullens house looked! Even the way they dressed was as I pictured it.

Well, the only thing about the trailer is the transformation from a human into a werewolves. The wolves doesn’t look fierce. In fact, it looked really cute, like a dog. I thought the wolves should be real huge but in the trailer, it is only of a considerable size.

Well, I think everyone is too critical of these movies! They can’t possibly please everyone! Every single move, outfit, everything is broken down by different people. If, for example, they made Jacob’s Wolf more “Russet” colored, someone out there would say it was “too russet.” Just remember that Stephenie thought up this entire world and also has a good bit to do with the movie making, so, the way that we’re seeing this in the movie has to be close to the way SHE sees it. It’s all HER vision, who are we to say it’s wrong?
