TA TALKS BACK: TWILIGHT DVD RELEASE, BORDERS BAD BEHAVIOR
TA fan Rachael Thorley wrote in about her Twilight DVD experience with Borders:
Being the die-hard Twi-hard I am, I decided to pre-order my DVD from borders so that I could get the cool cover of the DVD. I had paid for the movie in full online on February 17th, over a month before the release. About a week before the release, I checked my email and saw one from Borders that said:“Dear Twilight Movie Fan,
Thank you for ordering your copy of the Twilight DVD at Borders.com. We’re very excited about all the special extras you’ll find on our exclusive edition, and we feel certain that you’ll love them, too.
As you may have guessed, our exclusive edition of the Twilight movie is extremely popular and we quickly sold out of our initial inventory and ordered more from the manufacturer. As a result, we wanted to reassure you that your Twilight DVD order is on its way. We do, however, want to remind you that your order will arrive 1-2 weeks after the DVD officially releases on March 21. You should receive your Twilight DVD(s) on or before April 4.”

Not to be a downwer, but Borders did say and wrote on their site that orders posted after February 4 won’t be delivered by April 13. Nevertheless if you tried to reserved your copy on the store the would have told you tha same, and if you further inquiry about this, they would have told you that the inventory for this exclusive DVD per store was a low one, so very few quantities where to be handed out. I am not a Borders employee, but I did my research and I did pre-ordered online before Feb 4 so I have my copy. I did went to DVD release party and I saw how many people got the exlusive one and people who didn’t reserved it as well, but I too understand that for this DVD there where many exclusive DVD’s from various stores, one had many options to choose from that it was overwhelming. I am very sorry for your experience, better luck next time.
The borders here in portland didnt even have enough copies to give everyone with wristbands and tickets a copy of the special edition which the tickets and wristbands were supposed to be a sure thing for, atleast that was the reason for going first thing in the morning for. It was horribly organized. After they were out of the special editions they expected everyone to pay 23 dollars for the 2 disc set when you could just go to target and get the 3 disc for 18. The employees were even rude about the situation. It was a pretty big let down after buying all of my previous twilight merchandise from them.
From what I can tell, Target’s 3 disc edition is the best and has too many exclusive extra features to make me happy with my Border’s purchase. I didn’t think that Summit would allow one outlet to have so many “exclusive” features. I would be pissed if I thought it would get me anywhere, so I just have to settle for being frustrated.
I would return my Border’s dvds if I could and buy Target’s, but I can’t. I watched what I could on youtube, but I can’t in good conscience spend more money and buy another Twilight dvd edition for the extra features. I am REALLY disappointed.
Can someone please tell me if there really is a **Midnight Sun clip** on any of the editions???
I was in a similar situation, having pre-ordered my copy, first from Amazon, & then canceling it, due to price & then ordering from Borders. Fortunately, I was able to cancel my order when I heard about the delayed shipments.. I too, went to the Midnight release party, but just to enjoy the party itself. I had NO plans on fighting for my copy, since there were only a limited amount available. I woke up at 6am, the following morning and headed to WalMart to pick up my DVD, finally. But now, I come to find out that Target has an exclusive 3-disc DVD, with extra, never seen before footage for the minor price of $ 17. 99 !!! UGHHHHHHHHHH I’m SOOOOO annoyed! I refuse to buy another copy! I’ll just have to scrounge on YOUTUBE & see if I can find the extra footage. GRRRRRRRRR
Bad behavior? They can’t make an infinite number of copies. Put your big kid pants on and be patient.
EMC said it all. They did send an e-mail and it was on their site. I received my pre-order in the mail the exact day the dvd was released. But I also ordered mine in January.
YAY!
Hello,
I am sorry to read that you had not gotten your dvd yet. What a shame of Borders!! However, I had a very happy experience with Amazon. I pre-ordered my DVD on Feburary 15. I got the 2 DVDs special edition on Friday, March 20 (that’s right one day before the release date). It was awesome!
The only disappoint that I had, was to find out that Target has a 3 DVDs special edition for the same price: $17,99. I could have gotten the 3 DVDs instead for the same price. So there is a tip for those of you who do not got the movie yet. Go to Target store and get great deal!
I actually got the same email from Borders, yet received my copy of the dvd on Saturday. The local Borders (and Suncoast) had both advertised parties, but didn’t have them in the end. Of course, regarding Borders, I am still waiting on the 18-month calendars…
When I heard they were taking pre-orders for Twilight I ordered mine immediately. I believe the date was Jan. 30th. I did receive it on time in the mail on March 21, actually was suppose to arrive March 25th. I didn’t mind waiting, but to my surprised it came on release date. I ordered on line which was very convenient. I viewed the DVD a couple of times already. It was well worth the wait! My favorite part is the commentary with Catherine, Kristen and Rob. Some of it is very funny!
I had the same problem, even though I pre-ordered my copy on Feb. 6 WITH VERBAL AGREEMENT from Waldenbooks (owned by Borders) that my copy would be available in-store for pickup on the 21st. (Always get it in writing, folks!) Upon receiving the same e-mail as Rachael, I called Waldenbooks, who, although having good CS, had to send me to Borders for THEIR Customer Svc reps to straighten it out. Ugh.
Borders CS rep announced in a bored voice that she was “sorry” I had been misinformed, but that if I had a problem with their shipping time, I was welcome to cancel my order (which I did) and order another copy elsewhere. Wow. HORRIBLE customer service!!
I found a nearby Hot Topic within minutes, ran in, pre-ordered my copy, and the next night, took my teens to the release party there. It was GREAT! Trivia, prizes, snacks, friendly staff… The employees even took turns keeping us entertained by bringing the standing cutout of Edward up & down the line for photos with our favorite vampire.
All in all, it was a great night, I had my DVD set available for our kid’s Twilight party the next day, AND I got a cell of the kissing scene & free poster with my dvds. Hot Topic rocked.
Oh yeah- while we were out at the party, hubby got another e-mail from Borders. My (cancelled!) copy has been shipped out and is on it’s way. *rolls her eyes* Borders won’t be getting any business from us again! Yeesh!
I am sorry to read that some people are having issues with the orders. I had a very happy experience with Amazon. I pre-ordered the 2 discs special edition on Feb 15, and got the DVD on March 20, which was ONE DAY BEFORE the release!!! The only disappointment was to find out that Target has the best deal: 3 DVDS for the same price, $17,99.
Bu, now it is too late for me. For those of you who did not got the movie yet, Target has the best deal!
I also pre-ordered the Border’s dvd (knowing that I may get it late) and got the email that I would receive it by April 4th. I couldn’t wait and I also wanted the Target extras so I went in store and bought it. I came home and to my surprise I got my Border’s dvd. So now I have both versions and it is so worth it. I’m sorry for what happened to you.
I took a lot of time deciding on where to buy my DVD. And Im actually REALLY happy now that I didn’t pre-order it. I was going to order it from HMV, because they had the 3 disks (and honestly I didn’t care about the extra Edward stuff, I wanted my special features). Then I find out that instead of ordering my DVD from them, I could pick it up from Target. I was totally lazy and showed up at Target on the morning of the 21st and walk away with my DVD in hand. The third disk is great. Loved it.
Thank you to the TA website for doing a comparison of all of the places selling the DVDs so that I could better make my choice. You helped greatly! Thank you!!!!!
Wow! I was one of the ones that ordered my DVD from Borders and I did so after the deadline and was not expecting my DVD until April! I even had some billing issues that needed to be resolved as I had received a new debit card from my bank! I just received my DVD today and I am so tickled! The case is beautiful and I cannot wait to watch all the extra stuff!! Yippppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I was only talking today at work at how *impressed* I was with Borders customer service. The booking deadline was clear on the website. They even had the courtesy to send out an email close to the weekend to reiterate as such, that they were working to get stock and that I would definitely have it before April 4th… before emailing me a day or so later to say they had mailed it out. Above and beyond as far as i’m concerned. I’ll order from them again.
I ordered my DVD from Walmart.com early February, after checking out different vendors.
Walmart promised the DVD to arrive on the same day of the release, the 21 of March. I received an email that week saying it was shipped and I should get it on the 21st or shortly after.
I was very happy to find the DVD on my mailbox Saturday 21st of March at noon!!! I love Walmart even more now. They not only kept their word, but did it early. Another great vendor has been Hot Topic with the other stuff I ordered, really quick. I had not received their DVD yet.
I was able to get my Borders special edition dvd the night of the release even though I ordered late (They had gotton more copies then they had anticipated at the store I went to and set one aside for me) And in response to Angel’s midnight sun scene question-I haven’t heard anything about it or what deleted scene it might be (although I suspect it to be when Emmit tells Edward “She’s not one of us!” Please correct me if I’m wrong)
I too ordered my copy from Borders. I ordered it on February 8th but the site clearly stated that if you ordered yours after the 6th you wouldn’t get yours on the 21st. I still chose to order mine and I’m glad I did. Though I wasn’t supposed to get mine til the 4th of April it came in the mail today!!!
