BLUE FOUNDATION – ‘TWILIGHT’ THEME ON ‘YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE’

Posted July 1st, 2009 By: Evie 36 Comments »

So You Think You Can Dance had a very Twilight inspired night. A couple of dancers (Kayla and Kupono) chose the song Eyes on Fire by Blue Foundation, on the Twilight soundtrack for their dance tonight. The results were absolutely stunning:

(The actual video starts at about 2:32 in.)

(Thanks to Tania and Barbara!)

I think this dance was absolutely breathtaking. You could definitely see how Twilight inspired it, and not just the song. I want to watch it again, I just loved this! Even the lighting was absolutely perfect for the song and the mood. I wonder if Sonya, the choreographer is a big Twilight fan.

Did you like this video? Could you see the way it was influenced by Twilight? Did you like Eyes on Fire as a song choice?

I think Sonya is a Twilight fan cause she cheered when Nigel mentioned Twilight. Do you know when the song was played in Twilight? I can’t remember!! The choreography was beautiful.

  • Barbara

You are welcome TA!!! Sonya is for sure a Twilighter herself you could tell when Nigel mentioned Twilight and she lit up as if he totally got the whole reason for the dance…i hope she will incorporate twilight into more of her pieces!

  • Jodie

Wow!! That was stunning :-) .. I love Eyes on Fire!
Karen, the song plays in Twilight when Edward is absent from school & Bella is saying things are getting weird…
Thanks so much for posting this :-)

  • Amberelisee

amaazzinnggg love the dance and outfit especially! What is the female dancers name? aghh i want that outfit for halloween! love it so much!!!!

  • RachelCullen

yep. My favourite song from the soundtrack.
    Great Choreography. (:

  • Suzannah

I loved this song. It is one of my favs on the Twilight soundtrack, although I wish they had played more of it in the movie (especially the eyes on fire lyric). But Sonya is definitely a Twilight fan–did you see the fist pump when Nigel listed the title as possible inspiration? Total Twilight fan!

  • Sinead

Wow! When Nigel said Twilight Sonya was like ‘YES!’ haha thats a girl after my own heart!
The dance was so beautiful and it completely captured the mood of the song and of Twilgiht :) !

  • Anne

I almost jumped off the couch it was so great and I already loved Sonya and So you think you can dance. My boys got excited to we can’t get enough Twilight and that made me glad to see that it can be used for lots of positive things like dance…

  • Jewah

I hardly ever watch SYTUCD, but i happened to see it last night…within the first 3 notes, I sat up in the bed and started yelling at my hubby who was in the shower “they are dancing to MY song”!!! He yells back “Pause it”! It was too hot, just like the song is!

  • Forever a Twilighter

I don’t believe the dancers actually had any say in the song choice. I believe it was Sonya (the choreographer) who choose the music to go with the dance. But, I thought it was beautiful! And, when Nigel was talking about the inspirations for it you could see Sonya and he mentioned three vampire themed movies/shows and Twilight was in the middle. When he mentioned it, Sonya got extra excited. I’m sure she is a fan! :)

  • Marilou Abruscato

Just stunning. Totally inspired by the dark side. The song is actually one of my faves from the Twilight soundtrack so yes it was appropriate.

  • Abby

OMG THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! i watched it last night and they were light this is vampire inspired and then eyes on fire started to play and i screamed it was so good. and i def think she is a twilight fan

  • Catherine

I was watching this last night! I sat up straight when he mentioned “vampire-esque” and the first thing that popped into my mind was Twilight. Then Eyes On Fire started playing and I got excited. An amazing routine! Definately one of Sonya’s best, and my favourite of the season!

  • Staar84

I didn’t like the very beginning; I liked it initially but I think he dragged her too long. I also didn’t like near the end when it looked like they were being electrocuted. The rest was incredible though. They’re AMAZING dancers.

  • Yuushii

Wow. That was so stunningly beautiful! I absolutely LOVE that song!

    Thank you for posting!!

  • choirchick

If you like contemporary dance it was very good. The music was nice and I suppose you could find a vampire theme in it but I just found it weird.

  • crazycullenburkeblack

I thought the dance was funky but i love Sonya’s work! i was watching the show with my parents ant the minute I heard eyes on fire i was like OMG thats twilight! When Kaypuno and Kayla were getting their critic u could totally tell sonya was a twilight fan cuz when nigel was listing the possible outlets of inspiration for this mesmerizing dance Sonya basically jumped out of her seat when he said twilight!

  • natalie

LOVED IT!!! love them, they are great!!!

  • full forever

I like it, but whats with the shaking in the ned? it looks like they’re being electrocuted….
    the song is awesome =D

  • M3lla

hahaha I was watchin that last night

hehhe i posted a bullinton on myspace yeaterday

omc!!! I love wat that girl was wearing

  • Debbie aka Moonraeven

It was totally awesome and yes I could see how it was related to Twilight Sonya was in her element with the choreography.

  • ZuZu

I totally appreciate the fact that this dance must have been highly difficult and there were some good parts of that dance, but a lot of it was really stupid. It was like they were freaking out it was just plain weird. it was more like true blood than like twilight.

  • amy

Wow!! I missed it last night.. Thanks for Re-showing it.. I loved it, what a great song!! I really do love that song from Twilight.. I love how Nigel Referenced Twilight!!

  • Sammm

Twilight is taking over the world :)
.. our mission is becoming successful

  • Chelle

Wow, great choreography! Ok, so I know CH hired some choreographers to inspire the cat like movements of the Cullens in Twilight… watching that dance number, all I could imagine were NEWBORNS!!! Is it just me??? I saw confusion, darkness, desperation, Sonya could do some great contribution to Eclipse? What do you all think? =)

  • amanda kay

wow that was really good. i dont watch the show but i found it to be pretty amazing!

  • vindictivemind28

I thought it was really good. When I heard the first few notes I almost fell off my couch. She is a total twilight fan, I bet. I started watching SYTYCD last season and she comes up with some kick butt stuff. Love Sonya!

  • Kelly E

It’s a gorgeous dance, but personally I don’t see the connection to Twilight. Possibly just a ratings grab.

That girl was a lot more coordinated than Bella is, that’s for sure!

  • Bella Swannabee

omg. Amazing. That was stunning. Absoloutley perfect.

  • nancy

    omg. that was BEAUTIFUL!! WOW!!

  • http://www.yahoo.com sytycdclosetfan

I used to only watch the show because of the gf…caught this though and though it was pretty much awesome. I like the part where they look like they are teleporting to death/electricuted. unique touches and the intro where she is dragged. kind of powerful

  • Mandi

This video is amazing. I love this song. Sonya definitely loves Twilight lol. She cheered for it when it was mentioned. The story in the dance isn’t very twilight, the roles were reversed. lol. But I still loved it.

  • Zoe

OMG that was amazing for 2 reasons, 1 the song was so good!! Love it and 2 such amazing choreographic

    Zoe

  • maddie

ahh!! that was ahmazing!! i love it so much!! they did awesome too!!! the song goes greatly on it!!!

  • http://Itwasawful lyra

The dance did not match the song at all. I was very disappointed.

  • Cynthia

@Karen yeah, sonya is definetly a twilight fan.
And the song eyes on fire was played when he doesnt come to school for days, she’s waiting to ” demand what his problem was” after the first biology class, and he never showed up, that’s when they play the song, btw i love the dance and the song.
