CELEBUZZ – MICHAEL COPON HARASSED BY TAYLOR FANS

Posted December 19th, 2008 By: 40 Comments »

CELEBUZZ.COM posted a new article about how Taylor fans have been treating Michael Copon, it’s a disgrace!

Twi-loonies need to sit down and have a Fruit Roll-Up and get ahold of themselves for a second. Taylor Lautner, who played Jacob in Twilight, has had his part recast. Michael Copon will allegedly be taking over the part of the werewolf dude who forms a love triangle between Kristen Stewart’s haughty ass and Robert Pattinson’s coral reef hair in the sequel. Lautner was reportedly deemed too young, and not big and brawny enough to bring the sexual chemistry with Stewart.

Lautner still seems to think he’s in the running, though. He’s already been working out and probably shooting himself in the butt with the juice. Hey, it’s Twilight.

Anyway, Lautner’s fans got their Livejournals in a twist and have started to launch a campaign against Copon by leaving messages on his Facebook page. You’ve got everything from “I don’t want you playing Jacob Black in New Moon :( because Taylor is perfect” to “You’re a douche.” 16-year-old girls and socially retarded people in Nana’s basement can be vicious.

A group has even been started on Facebook called “I REJECT Michael Copon as Jacob Black: SAVE TAYLOR NOW!” Succinct. It’s has 1,219 members so far. Our economy is collapsing, and there’s a way on but I think if Lautner keeps his job – it will all turn out ok.

Alright guys, I must agree with this article. Get control! I know many of you have very strong feelings, but don’t take it out on Copon. He doesn’t deserve that.

What if he ends up with the part? He will have a negative view of Twilight fans. That’s unfair to those of us who are at least somewhat sane.
Stop harassing him. Take a step back and calm down. Show some maturity.

What do you think of this article? How do you feel about Copon being bullied by Twilight fans?

Copon will do a great job im sure :) just get the teeth whitning… nothing can match taylors smile

  • Marlene

I agree. I know everyone one wants to see Taylor come back, I mean I do, but people shouldn’t treat Michael Copon bad. What are people going to think of all the Twilight fans.

  • jane

I put this in another spot while this article was being put up but it fits here better: GAH! Has anyone learned anything from the absolutely horrible treatement our beloved Rob received in the beginning?

Guys, quit trying to be control freaks and let the powers that be decide how they want to run this movie. Quit harrassing this poor guy! He is not even definitely replacing Taylor! Besides, if I was treated that way it would make me want the part even more! Do you really think you can hassle him out of it anyway?

Personally, I do not want a hundred thousand dollars spent, or whatever, to make Taylor look the part when they can go with someone who already LOOKS the part, and put the CGI money to better use! (Italy) Like other REASONABLE people have said, in Twilight, Taylor was NOT a major character. He was NOT seen much. It makes sense to have him in New Moon UNTIL he turns wolf. People will NOT be confused. It will be explained as the movie plays out! This is not the same as the dreaded ‘changing LEAD actors’ per se and is actually warranted to play the storyline correctly.

Like it or not, it has been WRITTEN in New Moon that Bella barely recognizes Jacob. He is big and gets bigger every time she sees him and it freaks her out. This is a written FACT! Taylor, will NOT freak her out.

Quit letting your fan-love for Taylor blind you to what is best for the movie! Gaining 20 pounds is NOT going to make Taylor look 6 feet tall or huge. And to those who say his size is not a big deal, please, read the book again!!!!!!!!!!

This, believe it or not, is upsetting to those of us who can see through the Taylor Lautner haze! You guys are making Twi-Fans look rotten with your bashing of anyone mentioned who may replace him. What happened to loving the books?

And to those who say it’s as bad as replacing Rob or Kris: NO, it’s not. Again, he was not a lead in the the first movie. Let the film develop as it needs to.

Maybe we need to do a reverse petition of sorts: Save the integrity of the movie!!! Replace Taylor!!!

  • Alisa

People should chillax. Michael Copon will be great. Lautner will be missed. If Lautner were to stay on as Jacob, I believe Twilight-ers would notice something missing in New Moon.

  • ladydark4

    you’re incredibily right, babe

Taylor rulez..but it isn’t a good reason to be stupid and immature against Copon.

These prepubescent snot noses are going to give all Twilight fans a bad name. Who cares which guys does the job as long as they do justice to the character. I personally didn’t like Taylor as Jacob but I’m not going to verbally attack him or any replacement.

These fans need to get a life and start living in the world of reality. It’s a freaking movie for crying out loud. These are probably the same fans that are making Robert Pattinson’s life a living hell.

These kiddies need to grow up, get a job, a nice safe hobby before they make us all look bad. Blasting someone because they are up for a role that you don’t want them to have is childish and in the worst form of taste.

I’ll step off my soapbox now before I start really ranting and raving.

  • Karen

While I would love to see Taylor back in the role of Jacob (and I even joined a -different- Facebook group to that effect and signed a petition), I would NEVER stoop to trashing someone on their account, and I am saddened (and to quote Edward “sick to my core”) that now Twilight fans have been associated with such actions. Totally unacceptable, people. There are far better ways to get your point across.

  • Lulu

A lot of people needed this scolding. This is getting embarrassing! Taylor is not Tom Hanks or Al Pacino or Johnny Depp, for goodness sake. Let the DIRECTOR chose whose best for the role–based on their acting ability and not their weight or muscle mass, unless he’s trying out for the next Terminator movie.
Geez, it is so embarrassing how fangirls think they know how to cast a movie than the professionals.
Stop harassing the director over this and stop harassing Michael Copon. Let them make the right decision over the right reasons.

  • Team Jacob:p

I believe that Jacob should be still played by Taylor. He can pull this off. Look at the hobbits in LOTR and Hagrid in Harry Potter – it will not take that much and ANYONE who plays this character will have to grow at least a foot taller and get ‘older’ in physical looks, so why not keep who has already been cast? If the powers that be do decide to remove Taylor, however, I don’t think it should be with Michael – he is TOO OLD! Use Steven Strait. He is exactly who they need if the deem it necessary to replace Taylor.

With that said – I will boycott if Taylor doesn’t stay and so will ALL of my friends. That is just my opinion and passion for Taylor.

  • Rachel

People say he’ll have a negative view of twihards, but it appears the vast majority have a negative view of him

  • Erica

I am really sad about this article.. I think its horrible that people are harassing him just because the director might like him better.. Everyone needs to calm down and just wait to find out what happens.. Personally, I LOVE michael copon and I think he’d be a great Jake.. And I also love taylor too.. I’ll be happy either way.. Just pleaseeee, calm down!

  • Gabby

I agree twilight fans should calm down, but we shouldn’t stop trying. If Taylor isn’t old enough… then we have to accept it. He did a great job in twilight and we still do a great job in other movies. Either way we have to support who ever gets it. Just don’t lose faith in Taylor! He can do it I KNOW he can!

  • summer

i heard copon can’t act. if they replace taylor i am no longer team jacob..they should keep it the same..they don’t really need to pay robert 12 million if hes only in the movie at the beginning and end..spend some money on making lautner bigger and better. we are suppose to fall in love with jacob in htis book. he needs the most attention..

  • Cassie

I think that having Michael Copon as Jacob in New Moon will be great, but I will miss Taylor. People shouldn’t take it out on Michael just because he would be a better Jacob in New Moon. It’s just embarrasing for twilighters. Also, you sholdn’t have to stop being Team Jacob because of the switch. It’s all about the books and the story that is being told in the movie.

  • Michelle is SAD AND MAD

ITS NOT HIM (PARSHLEY) ITS HIS ARROGANCE AS A “TWILIGHTER” HE HASNT EVEN READ NEW MOON NOR DOES HE SHOW ANY LOVE AND COMPASSION TOWARDS THE SERIES LIKE THE REST OF THE CAST DOES!! HE’S EVEN PICKING ON TAYLOR AND BOASTING ABOUT HIS POSSIBLE CASTING SPOT
I SWEAR TO U IF HE GETS CASTED AS JACOB I AM NOT WATCHING NEW MOON!!!!!!!! TWILIGHTS SCOUT HONOUR!!

  • Daniella

Personally, I do think that Taylor should be replaced. It’s nothing against him. I just thing it would be better for the movie. But why would they ever pick Michael Copon to do the job?????????? He clearly does not even care that much considering the fact that he didn’t even read New Moon. Not to mention his comments about himself and Taylor. He was completely arrogant and obnoxious. He totally chewed out Taylor. Not to mention the fact that he doesn’t even look at all like Jacob. I mean come on, he’s Filipino!!! So yes, Taylor should be replaced for the good of the movie, but Copon should DEFINITELY NOT be the one to do it. Why is nobody even mentioning Steven Strait????????????? Steven Strait is THE perfect Jacob. Always has been, always will be. He looks just like Jacob, he is huge, beautiful, and an amazing actor. The Convenant anyone?? Seriously. Everybody needs to stop thinking about Michael Copon and try to hire Steven Strait!!! Is that really so difficult?

  • Lou

I’ve never seen Michael Copon act but given his size, he’s definitely a better ‘fit’ to be Jacob Black simply because of Jacob’s description and size in the book…he grows about, what, a foot taller? And broader? If the producers want to keep Taylor, give him the part of Seth in the upcoming movies. He’s a ‘smaller’ character. Have any of these harassers read the books? I don’t believe so.

  • Megan

i hope taylor gets to keep his part..im a big taylor fan but i would never be say anything mean about michael.

  • anonymous

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
God, what was that??? The person who wrote that article must have had an orgasm for being able to write two words about economy! If you missed it, here it is: “Our economy is collapsing”

hahahahhahahaha, really, how can celebuzz talk about “crazy” teenagers? hahahahahhahaa…it’s celebuzz….

  • Laura

Steven Strait may look like Jacob from the book, but does he look like an older Taylor…uhm no.

  • anonymous

does anyone have the link to his facebook? I need to read the crazy comments, hahaha, I SWEAR I wont say anything!!! I just want to laugh! please, please???

  • TW

It’s those immature teeny boppers damnit they ruin everything but really they need to grow up if it happens it happens !
Michael seems like a really nice guy and he seems scared of us already and it’s really rude and it irritated me that Twilight fans are like that !!!

I’m up for Michael love Taylor but he is JUST TOO YOUNG FOR ME !!!

  • No… Just no.

With all due respect… Okay- I get that some people feel Michael Copon is being harassed. I really don’t agree with the comparison between how Rob was treated after his casting and how Copon is being treated now… Yes, some Twilighters were unjustifiably upset when Rob was cast. But guess what? Rob DIDN’T go on facebook and youtube and act like a complete jackass, so the comparison between Copon and Rob is wrong. Fans had no reason to be upset with anything Rob did during the casting process…
I would have had no problem with Copon now if he didn’t come off as such an (excuse my language) arrogant bastard. Every interview I’ve read and every clip I’ve seen of him just brings more disappointment. Copon does not seem to have the heart to play this role.
I am by no means Taylor Lautner’s number one fan (but I do think he should get the part). If they decide not to go with Taylor, I hope and pray that Summit has the foresight to choose a serious actor who cares about the Twilight fans. Copon has shown that he doesn’t care, and his arrogance has left me (and thousands of others) pretty unhappy with the prospect of him being cast.

  • Dre

I Agree Steven Straight would be perfect! I like taylor but I think steven straight would do a good job if taylor had to be replaced

  • Jane

People complained about Copon before he even uttered a word or typed a word. They are diehard Taylor fans no matter WHO gets considered for the job. They will bash anyone. In this sense, yes, it is exactly like how it was with Rob at first.

I do not necessarily like the idea of Copon, as I think they are overlooking other guys who could do the job. If you look on any Native American actor site, you will see a few good – really hunky – choices.

  • Jess

    No… Just no.

Rob has said in many interviews that he recieved a petition signed with over 75,000 signatures stating they didn’t want him, he got threats, people called him an ugly gargoyle, ect. These same people are now going ga-ga over him, oblivious to how their negative actions made an impact on him in the beginning, and why he is now so stunned and put off by this new reactions from these same fans that did NOT want him.
Film star or not, these people have families and they are just that, PEOPLE. They only ACT out characters for movies. They truly aren’t the character in real life.
Copon may be a concieted big mouth, attention hungry, jerk, but “the fans” should be above all of the petty, name slinging, and convey intellectually , and civially, and within the same thread, why you feel so strong. No cuss words, or because Taylors cool and your a douche. That is not doing it. Have you considered that with all of the negative actions of Taylor fans, they might just take him out, just to show you who really has the control in this situation. If they decide to pull the power move to shut you all down because of negative actions, don’t blame anyone but yourselves. Even Taylor is handling himself with honor and positivity, he’s not bashing, he’s focused.

  • AllisCullen

    Ok, here’s the thing….

Didn’t SOME Twilight fans call Rob a “troll” before we saw what he could do as Edward?

Yes, well, let’s give this guy a CHANCE, if he’s really going to be in New Moon, ok?!

I like Taylor, too, but I don’t rule the world, so these decisions are out of my hands, and I think SOME of us need to realize that, too.

  • Riley

Michael Copon, doesn’t deserve this role. He is a conceited person. I was reading multiple interviews in which he, a 26 year old, bashed Taylor Lautner, a 16 year old. Do you think that is right? I don’t think it is. I do understand that those who are “Team Michael” now feel he is being harrassed, but I disagree. taylor was casted for this role for REASON. He should stay Hacob because it’s unfair to him and all of his fans. Why keep the minority happy when you can keep the majority happy?

    FYI
he calls this movie “Twilight 2″ and he only read twilight and went on cliff notes to learn about the rest of the series, where as Taylor read the books and LOVES them. He has respect for what is making so many things possible for him, while Michael has none whatsoever. Do we want someone who doesn’t understand how important these books are to us or some one who does? In my opinion, I would want some who does.

  • Alexandriaa

OME IM SO GLAD THISS WAS FINALLY SAID.

    LEAVE MICHAEL COPON ALONEE !!

He’s just trying to BE A ACTOR AND GET ROLES HE LIKES so WHY BASH HIM 4 IT!?!
I for one feel horrible for the guy. &nd he may be concieted and arroqant and not understand how deep our beloved books are but why dont we just give him a chance. He could be the best Jacob for us.. [i lovee Taylor of coursee but seriously.. Jane couldnt have said it better..
“Quit letting your fan-love for Taylor blind you to what is best for the movie!”

AND STOP MAKING TWI-HARDS LOOK INSAIN AND IRRATIONAL ! COME ON GUYS !

  • jackie

Um actually Michael did start this rumor and so he does deserve what he is getting from the fans. He should never have been cocky enough to put that comment on his facebook and his agent and manager allowed him to do that on purpose for attention. That is disgusting and obnoxious! What are they thinking, they would prefer this negative publicity rather than just having him audition like everyone else. This was a publicity stunt and its backfiring because people don’t like him more now than ever. This movie is about quality not the quantity of Michaels body, they can make anyone look big or old or fat or whatever! And besidesw I don’t think they look that much alike , Michael looks like his heritage…asian! Also, the person who said people didn’t like Rob Pattinson ast first , that doesn’t really hold up because that wasw before the movie came out and before the characters were established. Taylor is Jacob now and noone wants to see a change because it’s hard to relate all over again, especially with this movie!

  • Ang

hey, it’s partially Michael Copon’s fault. Have you read some of his interviews? He talks cocky, sounding like he already has the gig, not read the books (I’m not sure DABBLING through the cliff notes of the next two books counts), doesn’t work for it like Taylor right now (Taylor’s been working his butt off for the role). Michael simply is making people having a negative view on him. I mean, he insulted Taylor during one of his interviews about his acting, size, and how he doesn’t understand the character Jacob Black. So there’s an excuse for fans saying those things about him.

But I gotta admit the thing about sending messages to him on Facebook was a new one. I sort of agree on the going to far thing. But hey, if Michael Copon wants to stop being harassed then stop acting like you deserve it. We’ll show maturity when he does.

So… basically… keep Taylor!! It’s pretty much dumb to think that nobody noticed him in the first movie and be oblivious to the change of actors in the next movie (IF Taylor is replaced, which I am hoping not).

  • jem

okay. while i agree that posting comments on his facebook and all that is crossing the line, copon had some of the stuff coming to him. as far as people calling him “a douche” on their personal livejournals and such, i couldn’t agree more and totally think they have that right. call me baised, but hey, i had nothing against copon until i saw his interviews and just how cocky his attitude could get. has the boy ever heard of the word modesty? calling another actor out on “what’s lacking in their performance” is already worthy of the “total douche” title, but when it’s coming from a guy who, let’s face it, has little to no acting skills himself, well that just puts him right up there at the top tier.

my personal view of the situation was that, if it came down to it, i would accept whichever new actor would take the role as jacob because i was a fan of the character first, not the actor. but those interviews with copon were enough to make me take all of that back. i think a lot of the animosity towards the guy stemmed from those interviews. if he didnt want to face the wrath of angry fangirls, he shouldnt have acted so cocky and arrogant.

  • jess

I think Strait would be better than Copon as Jacob but I also would like to see Taylor come back and see what he could do. But that’s my opinion you know to each his own but people should boycott a movie or thrash someone personally for excepting a job. This is one reason why the keep referring the Twilight series as a Tween thing and not considering an older fan base because of the immaturity and that’s sad.

  • Noelle

It’s no wonder Twilight fans have such a bad rap! Look how everyone is acting over the recasting of a character that they have absolutely NO CONTROL over! All your whining got you no where (THANK GOD) when Rob was cast as Edward! Whatever the director decides is what will be so either don’t go watch the movie (since you couldn’t have your way, real mature!) or deal with it! I totally agree with what “JESS” said about what all this venomous crap does to the actor! Some of the things people say are crazy especially about when it’s about someone they don’t even know….

  • I.LOVETAYLORLAUTNER.ANDIFHEGETSREPLACEDIMNOTWATCHINGNEWMOON!!!!!!!!!

I dont like micheal capoun…he seems a bit full of himself really!

taylor deserves the role wayy more than Michael.!!!!!!!

    5 simple words–
    Taylor Lautner ISS Jacob Black

  • http://www.liveforevertwilight.proboards.com/index.cgi Alicat

Okay, Seriously? Just let Taylor play the part. Everyone I’ve talked to about it loves Taylor, and say that “Jacob” and “Edward” are the top 2 reasons for people even watching the movie!

I understand, I’m not as obsessive as them (Yet >_>), but honestly? Just photoshop Taylor to be taller! I’m sure people would know how, and maybe even PS their own copies of the movie, once it’s out on DVD or something, just to see Taylor in Jacob’s place instead of Copon.

    -end of rant-

(Personally, I’m more of an Edward fan, but Taylor is still too awesome as Jake)

  • YouCan’tBeSerious…

    I must say…

I used to really like Michael Copon. I truly did. I hated Taylor Lautner with a passion. But overall, he seemed dedicated to the book and the role, and carried himself like a gentleman. Like i’ve said in the past, I never liked Taylor all that much to begin with but I could deal with him because he seemed alright. But My only problem with Copon is the fact that he carried himself like a serious idiot. I mean come on. I have already expressed my views with this guy, but he didn’t even bother to read the book. (Cliff Notes…I still say wow. LAAAZZZYYY!) But everyone on here is right in their own right. Yeay Yeah, Copon doesn’t deserve to get bashed-no one does. Then again, he had it coming.

    That’s all for tonight.

Oh yeha! Whoever said the comparison between Rob and Copon was terrible, I applaud you. ;D

    -YouCan’tBeSerious…

  • dawn

well, i would have to say that mike was indeed a little bit too cocky when he commented about him being considered as the new jacob black for new moon. he had it coming.its natural for those who love taylor to react that way. we all just get carried away with our emotions.
my only thought about this issue is that whoever summit chooses to play jacob’s role would do justice on the character and would definitely be able to bring out the essence of the character from the book. i have seen mike’s snapshots and few video clips and i believe that casting him for the role isn’t a bad idea after all.i can actually picture him as an older version of jacob black if we were to base it on taylor’s physical appearance right now. i did like the way taylor portrayed the character on twilight but reading over the new moon book just does not make me imagine or feel that he’s the grown up ” jacob black”. i don’t know if they can make it up with taylor through cgi but i think its much better for us to leave it to the hand of the people that play a huge role in creating this movie – the director, screenwriter and the author herself, stephenie meyer ,of the book.

  • kyo

UGH, such amateurs , i’m really really sr for MICHAEL COPON , i so hoped that he would get the role . TAYLOR is just too young and not as talented, experienced as MICHAEL COPON . And by the way , i’m his biggest fan , and u’d better watch ur mouth , don’t u dar

  • unknown

i like taylor for the role of jacob black and he does well job. He even accomplished the body of the role and not only that but he is a very hard worker. He also studies the books to see how he is suppose to act in other words very dedicated.
