‘NEW MOON’ DIRECTOR CHRIS WEITZ RESPONDS TO THE ‘VOLTURI NUDE SCENE’

Posted July 31st, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 16 Comments »

The other day in an interview with MTV, Jamie Campbell-Bower, who plays Caius, spoke about what he said was a nude scene in New Moon (you can watch the interview HERE). Apparently Jamie was a tad too convincing, because news and media outlets across the globe picked up the story and relayed it as factual information. Rest assured, there will be no nude scene in New Moon, and Chris Weitz is debunking those rumors himself:

Dear all,

I would like to put everyone’s mind at rest and let them know that the
Volturi are not naked! Jamie (Campbell-Bower) has what you might call a
dry sense of humor and almost managed to convince me — which is why he’s
such a good actor. Anyway, be assured that, even though we do want the
look of the Volturi to be a bit of a surprise, they are always — as in
the book! — fully clothed.

best,
Chris Weitz

Okay well I thought this joke was hilarious, and I knew there’d be no nude scene in New Moon. I was surprised at how many people actually believed the story though, and I’m sure many will be disappointed that it’s been proven false (ha!). I did enjoy Jamie’s jokes on his twitter though, about how we should call it Full Moon rather than New Moon.

Were you convinced from Jamie’s interview that there would be a nude scenne in New Moon? Are you relieved to hear there won’t be?

I can only think of one vampire I would LOVE to see naked, but, I guess I’ll have to wait till the honeymoon scene in “Breaking Dawn” to hopefully see that :)

haha I sort of belived him, I thought there was a roman bath scene but was sure that it wasn’t a complete body shot, I thought he was just exagerating. Too bad, I liked the idea of the roman bath, even if they’re clothed and about to have the bath they don’t have to be completly naked

  • Betty

That is hilarious! I too am surprised that so many people, especially the media took Jamie seriously.

  • Lea

You have to be really dense to take Jamie seriously. It’s a freakin Stephenie Meyer story. There will be no nudity. Take a joke people.

ROFLMAO, I so knew Jaimie was kidding, he is such a crack up, I thought to myself at the time, I wonder how many gullible people will believe that and how many of those stupid Tabloids will make a story out of it and print it for real, I really liked Jaimie before this and now I love him, too cute…..

PS: featherhead, I was thinking exactly the same thing ,lol……

  • Abby

I knew he was joking when he said it…COME ON PEOPLE!

  • eelllennn

HAHA! When I saw the interview, I believed him at first…but then I realized he was kidding–the interviewer never quite caught on, just like the rest of the media…when it started to spread, I was amazed that no one understood that Jamie was kidding. It was a great joke though!!! (:

  • Britt

I actually did believe him but I knew that if there was any nude scenes, they would be shot from the waste up… kind of like in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when Harry has to take a bath to figure out the egg.

  • jenjen99

Haha! I’m not sure which is funnier! Jaime’s joke or the fact so many people believed him! I laughed my head off at both!

  • taylor

omg i thought he was seriouse! Hes a rele good actor then! wow
    that funny though!

Twi-Mom & featherhead: My thoughts exactly, what a cut up this guy is. His humor is like Rob’s dry and edgy. Sounds like a fun guy!!
    Featherhead….you said it.. aaahhh.

  • miss_amanda

I knew he was joking, that’s why it was so funny to me.

He does have a fantastic poker face.

  • darlenecullen

Well,I am one of those people that believes anything anyone says to me,so,OF COURSE I BELIEVED HIM! EVERY LAST WORD. DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!! After I found out he was kidding,I laughed so hard at HOW DUMB I AM!!!!

  • Chelle

LOL… I didn’t believe him at first but when it was all over the media, I started second guessing myself, how gullible! Now I hear he apologized on Twitter, awh poor Jamie, we weren’t offended! Love his humor! The media is just dumb LOL!

And yes, there’s only one vampire I want to see in a Roman bath!

Hi Marianne! I don’t see you around too much anymore!

Well I’d seen the movie before I heard Jamie’s interview (and I would have gotten that he was kidding- the movies were rated PG!!)   Although yes, I would have liked to see the “nude” scene – and they could have very easily filmed a PG version of it, like show the three leaders bathing in their Roman style bath (as Jamie said), showing only their chests, then Edward comes to visit, they could have shown Aro climbing the bath stairs, (showing his legs) and a Volturi guard member brings him a robe and Aro goes to greet Edward, so I was sadly disappointed that it was not filmed as this way, it would have still kept the PG rating and the Roman bath scene would have shown another aspect to Volturi culture and life as opposed to the Cullens’ and it would have been a nice and very special scene to see.  Oh well.  Maybe they can make this scene if they ever do a Special Edition! ;)
