TA TALKS BACK: REACTIONS TO THE FIRST PICTURE OF THE WOLF PACK

Karen LOVED the first image of the Wolf Pack. She shares her initial reaction:

Werewolves First Picture by Karen

Got a Twitter message at 3am from Twilighters Anonymous who had posted the first picture of the wolf pack. I thought I was seeing things, so I went to sleep again and then had to go to school. I went to my first class (it’ s a computer) so I went online and went to the website. I saw that it wasn’t a dream. In front of me - the brand new Summit release image of the wolf pack - I saw it and wanted to scream. I immediately started texting my Twilight friends at school, spreading the word around. All of them started getting excited and I couldn’t wait to I got home to download the image.

Below are excerpts from the forum (in response to the image):

Erica said “they are some studly men!!!”

BellaAndEdward said “Oh, and I loove the tattoos - such a clever idea!”

As soon as I got home I downloaded the picture and put it on my phone and sent it. Everyone gushes about how hot Alex Meraz looks. I agree with them about Alex but I love all the werewolves especially the tattoos on their arms.

The merchandise possibilities are endless…..

After we’ve all had a breather and mopped up the drool we just wait in breathless anticipation for another Werewolf picture to come out. Let’s hope the next one is of Taylor.

Robert Pattinson and Kellan Lutz are nightmare roommates

  • Robert Pattinson and Kellan Lutz might be really good looking but you wouldn’t enjoy sharing a bedroom with them according to Edi Gathegi. Edi (Laurent in New Moon) was asked by Inspire magazine which of his costars he would pick if he had to have a roommate. He replied: “Couldn’t be Kellen because eventually over time I would forget that his genetic code and metabolism is different than most human beings and I would eat all the candy he keeps in his room and end up looking like jabba the hut. “Living with Rob would probably leave me with insomnia as a result of all the women who would probably be sliding love notes under the door or calling late night and whatnot. MOVIEFONE: ROBERT PATTINSON ON ‘NEW MOON’, ‘LITTLE ASHES’ AND NUDITY

Moviefone has put up the second part of their interview with Rob Pattinson. Rob talks about nudity, his thoughts on Little Ashes and of course a little bit on New Moon:

What was your take on the whole Jacob casting drama? When it was possible that Taylor Lautner wasn’t going to get the part.

It was weird. When I came back, I hadn’t seen him in ages, hadn’t seen him since the summer and when I saw him, I saw him just before he got casted, and he put on like 100 pounds! I was like “Jesus Christ! If he doesn’t get it, it’s ridiculous.” But what are you going to do? There was a video of him on set the other day doing all these kind of fight stunts. That kid is incredible; he is one of the most stunning athletes I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know, I think it’ll be interesting. I haven’t seen any of his stuff yet, but everyone’s going a little bit crazy over him.

How’s the energy on ‘New Moon’ compared to ‘Twilight,’ because for ‘Twilight’ no one was sure if it was going to do well and now, obviously …

Yeah, it’s scary. It’s a very, very different experience. Last time we were just kind of … it was so easy to get the entire cast together. We’d all have dinner almost every day and be able to talk about it freely and stuff. Now it’s quite difficult to even leave the hotel. And all these random little stories become someway, somehow newsworthy, so you have to be very secretive about everything. Even if you want to just clarify something in the script or something. It’s just strange. It’s just very different … It’s very strange when you’re aware of being observed, I guess.

Is that similar to how it was when you were filming ‘Potter’?

Oh, no, not at all. The thing about ‘Potter,’ because everyone was so young, there weren’t really any [gossip] stories. Plus, the way we were shooting it was so impossible to get any pictures or anything. It was so, so private. And by the time I was working on it, everyone working there had worked there for about five or six years anyway, so they all knew each other. So nothing was really newsworthy. There wasn’t a lot happening. It seems that on [the ‘Twilight’ movies], maybe because they’re a little bit older, it seems like every single day there’s a new story coming out. I also think that’s it’s because all of these sort of blog sites have become way more popular in the last few years than they were then. And I guess that’s where most of the gossipy things go to.

Would you do full-frontal nudity like Daniel Radcliffe did?

I think it would depend on what it is. Yeah, it really does depend on what it is. And I don’t think a lot of people would really want to see that. I think it would ruin the illusion. [Laughs]

To read the entire interview, click here.

Haha, I don’t think there are many who will complain about Rob doing nudity in his movies. It’s too bad the cast feels like they are so much under the microscope, it probably makes hanging out together a little less fun if they have to worry so much. Still have to love Rob’s honesty in interviews, he’s still humble!

Did you like this interview with Rob? Did Rob clear anything up you were wondering about?

TA TALKS BACK: DISSECTING DAVID SLADE, THE DIRECTOR OF ECLIPSE (MOVIE)

TA Staff member MiniJazz breaks down David Slade’s (chosen director for Eclipse movie) life and career for us:

Who is David Slade?

David Slade was born September 26th, 1969 in the UK. He started his film career by making music videos. David Slade has made videos for Aphex Twin, Rob Dougan, System of a Down, Stone Temple Pilots, Tori Amos, Muse and AFI.

As for movies, David Slade has directed “30 Days of Night“, “ Hard Candy“, and “Do Geese See God” David won two awards for the movie Hard Candy. The Audience Award and Best Film Award. He has also written and created a movie called “Meat Dog: What’s fer Dinner”

Although other vampire movies have nothing to do with “Twilight“, “30 Days of Night” allots David some experience in vampire movies. I know that many may not think that this does not give him any credit or anything but at least David will know what he is getting into with the CGI and making vampires be vampires.

Now some must be wondering “Why did Summit choose David Slade?” Since I am not Summit Entertainment I cannot give you a definite answer to this, but this statement may give you a bit of an answer.

“I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing Eclipse,” Erik Feig, Summit’s president of production, said in a statement. “He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that Eclipse will be carrying on with that tradition.”

I think that David Slade is a good choice for a director in the Twilight Saga. I think that he has experience that the Saga can use. I believe that David will make Eclipse all the movie it can be. I am speaking from the experience. I have seen in “30 Days of Night”, but in my opinion I thought it was a good movie and it was directed well.

The CGI is always something I am worried about for the Twilight Saga but with the CGI that was used in 30 Days of Night I am confident that there will be no problem in Eclipse. I think David Slade will make a great addition to the Twilight Saga. I guess we will all just have to wait and see what comes out in July 2010.

FILM.COM: WHEN MOVIE FRANCHISES CHANGE DIRECTORS

Film.com has a great article about about the pros and the cons that can happen when you switch directors in the middle of a movie franchise:

The Twilight franchise is only one film old and already there are personnel changes. Director Catherine Hardwicke was replaced by Chris Weitz for the first sequel, New Moon, and now it’s just been announced that part three, Eclipse, will have yet another director. His name is David Slade, and he’s actually a good fit: His last film was 30 Days of Night, which was about vampires, and his film before that was Hard Candy, which was about a teenage girl being stalked and preyed upon by a much older man. Combine the two of those and you’ve basically got Twilight.

It remains to be seen whether the behind-the-scenes shuffling will affect the quality of the Twilight films. In the meantime, let’s look at history to see what we can learn about changing horses midstream.

CHANGE IS GOOD!

George Lucas wrote and directed the original Star Wars himself, and of course it was great. But for The Empire Strikes Back, he turned the helm over to Irvin Kershner — and the result was the film that many people consider the best of the franchise. When Lucas returned to direct the prequels, well, he shouldn’t have.

The Harry Potter series began with Chris Columbus’ two serviceable but so-so entries. It wasn’t until Alfonso Cuaron came onboard for Prisoner of Azkaban that the films became distinct works of cinematic art (as opposed to marketing tools, which is what Columbus’ efforts felt like). Mike Newell and David Yates have continued to make the stories their own, and they’ve done it without alienating the fans or drastically altering the basic material.

CHANGE IS BAD!

Not that it needed sequels anyway, but if The Silence of the Lambs was going to have follow-ups, they should have been made by someone other than Ridley Scott and Brett Ratner. Admittedly, the source material on these sequels was weak to begin with. But if they couldn’t get Jonathan Demme to return for Hannibal (and Jodie Foster to reprise her role as Clarice), then they should have thought long and hard about whether to proceed. And the less said about the awful prequel, Hannibal Rising, the better.

Tim Burton’s Batman was a marvel. His follow-up disappointed some fans, but they didn’t know what true disappointment was until they saw Joel Schumacher’s subsequent two entries. His last one, in particular, 1997’s Batman & Robin, remains one of the worst crimes ever perpetrated against humanity. It’s unlikely any director could have maintained Burton’s unique style — which means the smart choice, if Burton didn’t want to continue, would have been to reboot the franchise altogether. That’s exactly what Christopher Nolan did, and so far the results have been favorable, to put it mildly.

While I totally disagree with the “combine those and you have Twilight comment, the article does make several good points for both sides. It will be intersting to see how the Twilight Saga changes from movie to movie due to the director shifts.

What did you think of this article? Do you think it’s a good or bad idea to have each movie directed by someone different?
