Amidst the rumors that Brenda Song or Vanessa Hudgens are being considered for the position of Leah Clearwater, an MTV staffer weighs in on the decision, and wants your opinion too.

There have been rumors galore when it comes to the casting of the heavily anticipated “New Moon” – the next installment of Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling “Twilight” saga. We all know about the drama revolving around the casting of hunky werewolf Jacob Black. Will Taylor Lautner bulk up enough to keep the role of the lovable “shape-shifter” or will the bigger and older Michael Copon take the cake? Oh the intrigue!While Twilighters are still debating about which actor they want to play New Moon’s Jacob, there’s new casting drama that has thrown the passionate fans of the mega blockbuster into a tizzy. For the past month, rumors have been circulating that two Disney Channel stars are in contention for the role of Leah Clearwater. Leah is Jacob’s fiesty and heartbroken frienemy, who…umm… also happens to be a werewolf!

I really, really, really hope that Taylor Lautner gets the part of Jacob. He has been working so hard and it shows how much passion he has for the project. The crew of the movies should have warned Lautner before he accepted the role for Twilight that when and if New Moon was to be made into a movie that his role would be in jeopardy.
As for Vanessa and Brenda, most definitely should NOT get the role of Leah. Both of them are to happy go lucky for the role, i feel like Leah is sort of a downer and i don’t see either one of them being able to play that role. I think Twilight was better because the actors playing the characters were virtually unknown, especially because they are playing these mystical creatures and i think casting well known actors from another franchise would alter the flow of the mystical world that was created in Twilight.

Neither. I see Leah as strong and stubborn, yet obviously wounded. They should look for stronger acting chops to bring a little depth to the character if the franchise gets to the point where Leah would take a more prominent role. Hey, how about a Native American actress?! While I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary, it would be nice for the casting folks to give it an honest effort. Hudgens would just end up looking like stunt casting.

I have nothing against either of these actresses but I don’t think that either one of them has enough of an “edge” for the role of Leah or for any other character in the Twilight Saga.
Mandy Musgrave should play Leah. Either her or Valerie M. Ortiz. They’re both great at playing Leah-type characters.

Using someone even known as leah would be a mistake as the character is supposed to be the less liked by everyone compared to emily. Honeslty she she would have to be Native American if she is to be a werewolf, the actress who played pocahontas in ‘The New World’ would be great. Not that that movie was very good in my opinion but i believe she could play leah’s strength but also her heartbrake over sam. what do you guys think?

I’m sorry but I have to agree, I don’t think either of these Disney stars has what it takes to play Leah Clearwater. I like Brenda Song but could care less for VH. I think she’s tacky and can’t really act. Leah may not be that deep in NM but throughout the series we find more out about her character and she becomes a bigger piece. The person who plays her needs to have the chops to play this well, and she should at least look native american. Find someone who isn’t that big yet…

Both these actresses are too bubbly and happy to pull off Leah Clearwater they need to pick someone else! Someone more darker with a serious attitude that can pull off the inner struggle Leah goes through.

I don’t know who should do it but I don’t like either one of those choices, completely wrong. I do think that Moon Bloodgood should do the part of Emily - she’s so beautful - I’ve always had her in mind even as I read New Moon the very first time. Do you guys remember her, she played in Eight Below. If she was a little younger, I’d say she would be the best Leah Clearwater.
NO WAY! I too was caught up in the Taylor drama as well, but I think that neither of them should play Leah. Their charactors are always so happy, cheerful people. Not anything like the hurt, broken Leah Clearwater. Get some Native American actor that no one has ever heard of to do it. Better yet, hold autitions for the part.

All I have to say is what were they thinking? They both clearly don’t look like they could pull off the look first of all. Also, they been typecast so much that I don’t see both of them playing a head strong character like Leah. I honestly don’t know who I see play Leah but I hope someone unexpected comes along and surprises us. Maybe that Camilla girl who is friends with Robert? I don’t know but I would really want to see a fresh face play Leah.
Twilight is an edgier film franchise than whatever Disney can dish out. So please no Disney people. It’s better if an unknown actress gets the part.

Personally, I don’t think that either is good fit - they’re both too mainstream..I’d constantly be picturing Vanessa Hudgens breaking out into song and dance and Brenda Song is too comedic for a serious role like Leah Clearwater..SOMEONE ELSE!
Okay I understand the casting of a movie to be important. What I would like to see in the Twilight movies is Hollywood make an effort at casting Native people for Native parts. The fact that Miss Hudgens or Miss Song are even being mentioned, feels like a slap in the face to me as a Native actress. There are so many of us who would love the opportunity to read for that part. Leah Clearwater’s is a strong Native character. Who needs a strong Native woman to play her.

I think that neither Brenda or Vanessa would be good for the part of Leah. I always imagined someone that looked more native. I am so happy that they decided to keep Taylor as Jacob! I hope they choose a good Leah. I can’t wait for New Moon!

I’m happy with the news of Taylor reprising his role as Jacob Black. I think he fits the part perfectly. As for Leah, I think the actress who brings her to life should have the edge of the character of Leah. She should also, oh I don’t know…LOOK THE PART! I like Brenda and Vanessa and respect them and whatnot, but they just don’t fit. Remember, everyone, Leah Clearwater is a beautiful Native American girl. Perhaps the actress should be similar.

While I LOVE Megan Fox and she would add a lot of star power to the cast I don’t think she would make a good Leah. Sure she could play the role but she might be a tad mature looking.
As for Vanessa Hudgens and Brenda Song all I have to say is huh? I would be expecting Vanessa to break into song during some pivotal moment and Brenda Song looks too asian to play a native american. The best suggestion I’ve seen on here is Q’Orianka Kilcher.
That being said I’m kind of hoping they go with an unknown for the part of Leah. I’m really more concerned about who they’ll cast for the Volturi anyway.
are you kidding? Both are very mainstream and I don’t think either one of them could deliver the character well. It’s a very important role especially in ‘Breaking Dawn’. So, the introduction of Leah in New Moon has to set a good stage. Having said that, either one of them has proven themselves to carry this role.

I don’t really care much about the options being discussed at the site for the roll of Leah Clearwater… I don’t really no much about the 2 girls and right now I can’t get a hold of an appropiate candidate…
Nonetheless I really think the cast director should be taking into account that Seth Clearwater should be at least introduced in New Moon as a caracter that eventually will become a main caracter in Eclipse, so considering that the 2 of them are brother and sister, some ressemblance should be a main factor at the time of making any decision…
I know I’m going too much ahead, but I really think that the movie it’s gonna be a huge success, even more than Twilight, and therefore I really think they will keep picking it up ’til the end of the Saga.
Finally I’d like to ask Stephenie not to worry about the special effects regarding RenesmeĂ© and her facial expressions, by the time that Breaking Dawn is picked up, something will come up… But taking into account all the suffering and the whole deal for Bella and Edward to finally be together and the child and all the stuff regarding Bella’s Shield, It would be really sad not to be able to see it on the big screen… Cheer up guys…

I think that the part should go to someone that is native american first of all. If i had to choose between Brenda or Vanessa then I would select Brenda. She is older and has a more experience that Vanessa and I can’t see Vanessa being able to play the darker side of anything. She really is barely able to play Gabrella.

If they pick either one of them to play Leah, I believe there will be a huge problem from a lot of the fans. If we wanted to see those girls we can watch the Disney channel… We don’t want to watch them in a vampire movie. Plus they most don’t look Native American. How can you cast someone to plan something that they don’t even look the part for. They should find someone with little to no stardom so that that person does not out shine the rest of the cast that have a bigger role to play then Leah Clearwater.

Allegedly Vanessa is of Native american and irish decent. brenda song is a very pretty asian woman. was leah ever described as extrememly pretty. because if summit wanted a very pretty actress who can pass as native american and who is probably part, KELSEY CHOW is the way to go.
whoever plays Leah has to be able to look like she’s Native American and portray a good heartbroken/bitter chip on her shoulder. I don’t know the younger actresses well enough to have an opinion on who would be a good choice.
I don’t think either one should be picked for Leah. I agree with most on here that it should be an actual Native American. However, I don’t understand why they are so concerned over who would play Leah in New Moon. In the book she was barely in it. They didn’t even reveal the whole love triangle between her Sam and Emily or the fact that she was a warewolf until Eclipse. Pretty much, she was just briefly mentioned in New Moon when Bella was having dinner at the Blacks house and she was on the phone the whole time. I think they should focus on finding a person to play Emily, she would have a much bigger part in this movie. Unless they have really changed the script to include parts from Eclipse.
No Way should Vanessa Hudgens and Brenda Song play the role of Leah. I don’t want to watch the movie with the idea of the last time I seen these perky, fun, giddy girls on Disney that my daughters watched. Besides Leah’s character has an mystery & a certain edge to her (and more for those who are in the last 2 books) that neither of these girls can pull off. Taylor did a great job playing the role of Jacob - he’s suppose to be sweet as that character has to have that caring nature part (congrats Taylor!). Tonantzin Carmelo or Kristin Kreuk as Emily, Q’orianka Kilcher as Leah, Martin Sensmeier as one of the pack members. Graham Greene or Wayne Charles Baker as Harry Clearwater. Michael Spears or Kalani Queypo as Sam if they’re not set on the guy they credited as Sam in the first movie. He (Solomon Trimble) would be better as Quil or Embry anyway, especially since he was already seen hanging out with Jacob (which Sam would not have done).
Evanna Lynch as Jane and James Bentley (if he looks old enough now) or David Dorfman as Alec. Jason Isaacs as Aro or Caius.

I really hope that Renesmee can be created onscreen well, and as accurately as possible. I think the technology will be around for that, or I hope it will.
I think all of the actors and actresses from the Cullen family, as well as Kristen Stewart as Bella, were pretty spot-on perfect for their roles. I personally thought that Alice, Jasper, Emmett, Rosalie,
and Edward were right on the money. I think Esme and Carlisle were just a little weird for their parts, but they did a decent job in my opinion.
I thought Billy and Charlie were well-casted, too.
I liked the casting choices for the roles of Victoria, Laurent, James, Jessica, and Angela were great as well.
I think that the casting director will work magic again as he did in Twilight, and it will all work out.
& P.S. As much as I am interested in the Twilight saga and the movies, I think we should let the people that are in the position to make decisions like this make their decisions how they want to. If we don’t think it was perfect, it isn’t the end of the world. We’ll be disappointed for a few hours after we see the movie and then it’ll all be over. So I think we should all chill out a little, but I don’t blame anybody for being a little worked up; I know I have been. :]

I think Vanessa could do a good job…she’s definately got the look for it. It’s just whether she can tap into her darker side. Other suggestions would be Ellen Page, Briana Evigan, Francia Raisa, Rachel Bilson (maybe) and JoJo Levesque (possible). They’ve all played roles where they’ve had to have a quick wit and a little bad a@!. And of course Leah is described as “bitter and cynical” because of the whole Sam situation.

I looked at their pictures and they definately look the part. Have read the books and I understand the need to stay true to the store. However, this is a fictional book. Therefore, although it would be preferred that a Native American actress play the part….what is most important is that a good actress plays the part. The three young ladies above could very well be excellent actresses and then problem solved. But if not, then there may be other actresses that could bring the right persona of the character to life through their acting. And there looks might be close enough.

There is only one actress that can do justice to this role. That is the Multi-talented, Native American, O’Orianka Kilcher.

The person I have in mind is Q’orianka Kilcher who played Pocahontas in “The New World”. She is a unique and very talented young actress.Considering the fact that she hasn’t had much training.The twilight sequel could really use her. Another promising young actress who could play Leah is Jessica Lucas who plays Kate Tunney in “The Covenant”.
i totally think megan fox from transformers should be leah clearwater. she looks like she would be the perfect. she might not be native american but shes strong and she can be really fiesty for a girl. if you think she would be perfect write back.

Leah Clearwater should be played by Francia Raisa Almendarez. Watch her in the Cutting Edge 3 and tell me she couldn’t nail Leah’s attitude for the Twilight Saga. This is who I picture when I read the books….I think she would be perfect! Vanessa Hudgens cannot do this character justice.

Well first off, these movies and books are very serious and it is great the fans. If you bring in Vanessa Hudgens, all the high school musical fansa will be suddenly drawn in. This will spoil the film n all the HSM fans will not understand whats happening if they suddenly start watching from new moonm. A Unknown acress should play leah as it fits in with all the other actors on the show. Yes Robert pattinson did star in Harry Potter But that was unknown for a while from the difference of looks and the American accent they’re making him put on!
This girl is still in the running. I think she is beautiful and strong looking. I was skeptical at first, but after looking into it I think she would be AMAZING. She is an unknown Native American actress/ artist. She’s also auditioning for a few smaller roles at the moment, but as far as I can tell she is going to blow up!

I was seriously looking forward to watching New Moon, but, if the producers/directors cast either Vanessa Hudgens or Brenda Song, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it. When I read New Moon, I pictured Leah Clearwater as a bitter, anguished girl; not some washed-up, cookie-cutter Disney actress. Both Hudgens and Song scream “Disney!” and “Uber-Cuteness!”; not something I think should be associated with Leah. There have been a few Native American actresses (not so well known) that I think would play Leah wonderfully. I do hope that the producers cast someone who isn’t so commerical; maybe then, the fans of the Twilight series will appreciate the movie more.
They should pick someone like Alex Rice, Kristen Kreuk, or Tamara Feldman. Just please, no Disney actresses.
