A Beliefnet blog has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Midnight Sun leak and whether or not fans should read it. It’s a difficult issue for fans because they really want to read it but also want to respect Stephenie Meyer. She was, in essence, forced to legally share it with us after it was leaked and I think she only did that to have mercy on her fans.

I am sad for Stephanie. It was hers.
But I did read it (I HAD to) and it was still sooooo verrrrrrry good. I had hoped that the meadow scene would be there, since she said she may not finish it…… I was disappointed.
As a true Twilight addict, I cannot get enough, and hope that she will decide to return to it, to finish it, and let us be with Edward again. Swoon!
well , i mean , i keep hearing how amazing it is and all these other wonderful comments , but on the other hand , i want to be a loyal fan . Also , i know that i’m not the only one whos in the situation . i just tried talking about it to others in the situation like me . All i can really do is wait to see what she decides . If she does decide to continue with the book , then i will wait just like all the other books . but if she decides not to finish , then i will most definatly be found reading the chapters (:
I won’t read it. I won’t even take a quick peek. Stephanie said she didn’t want people to see it the way it is and we need to respect her. If she goes back to it some day and publishes it I will BUY a copy and read it, if not then it wasn’t meant to be and hopefully Stephanie will write something else we can fall in love with.
All I can say is i have not read any of it and I wont read any of it until it is published.I just hope stephenie decides to keep writing it soon.
Me and my army aren’t going to read Midnight Sun until it publishes. We feel like it is wrong because it felt like she was giving in. It was like telling the person who leaked the story “You win. Here is your victory,” and it’s not right. I will never read Midnight Sun until it publishes. If it never publishes, then I never will read it. And besides, she’s left all of us Twi-hards hanging here. There is so much more to Edward’s story we haven’t heard yet, so that would be wrong as well. I think she owes us this. By posting it on her website she left us hanging on a cliff and she may not know this herself. We need to tell her exactly what’s going on and she needs to know now. We can’t let this go on longer. My army is going to make a difference. We are going to show her exactly why she needs to keep writing Midnight Sun. All of us stand together and we stand strong. And we will fight until Stephenie sees the way she needs to go with this. We love her, and we know she loves us. She gave us Twilight, “the story that started it all”, wrote Midnight Sun, and then left us hanging. We’re here to let her know how many people she has on Edward’s side. And once she sees that she will make the right desision. I think she just needs a push. That’s what my army is here for. I have too much respect for Stephanie and her writing talent.
I’m probably the only person on the planet who has not read the leaked chapters. Now that I know about it, I choose not to read it. I am willing to wait for however long it takes to read the finished product. I really hope that Ms.Meyer will finish the book and publish it.

I still believe that we should wait for Midnight Sun to come out in bookstores just like we did with Breaking Dawn. What fun would that be if we read the first 12 chapters of this book? I personally have no intention nor ever will think of reading the other chapters except the first one. I support Stephenie all the way.
UM, maybe you can help me understand just what Stephenie Meyer was trying to accomplish by refusing to finish this book? Who was she trying to hurt? The people that leaked it or the rabid fans that love and long for the twilight universe? I understand that she has hurt, betrayal and or RAGE, but WHAT will abandoning this narrative accomplish? Will it make us buy more of her “other” projects (ones about aliens?) or want to see the movies more? We already can hardly contain ourselves… I don’t think most people will view this posting rationally, or even really stop to think about it, but I believe someone had to ask it.
I loved loved loved the first twelve chapters of Midnight Sun. I read it off of Stephenie’s website and it was awesome! It really explains a lot about Edward and why he’s so mysterious in the beginning. I’m also really sad that it got leaked because I would’ve waited as long as Stephenie wanted to take on it. I really hope she’ll finish it. If not for her fans at least for herself.

I have decided not to read the leaked portion of Midnight Sun. Don’t get me wrong, I loved reading the first chapter when she posted it, and I am definitely curious to see how it is finished. But I support Stephenie’s decision 100%. What makes you think that you deserve to read this book? It is her story, and she doesn’t owe you anything. I am an aspiring author myself, and I know that if I were in her shoes I would feel the same way. VIOLATED! That doesn’t mean that she is trying to hurt anyone by not publishing it. This is not meant to be a punishment, and for those of you who are angry with her, I think you should stop and think….would you really want to read it now? She said it herself on her website that in her current frame of mind she wouldn’t be able to do it justice. Would you really want to read a story that she didn’t have her heart and sould poured into 100%? I wouldn’t, it just wouldn’t be the same. I’d rather read other wonderful stories of hers in it’s stead. It’s not like her brilliance is limited to Forks, WA. She also has another great novel out there that is nothing like Twilight, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
The only person who should feel hurt in this situation is Stephenie Meyer! If it wasn’t for her we would’ve never met Bella, Edward, and the rest of the Cullens. It’s not fair that everyone is being so hard on her. She’s the one who is hurting right now, and I think everyone else should join her in mourning the loss of a great story.

Kaylyn, I agree with everything you said 100%, and with everyone who said they will not read the 12 chapters she posted… don’t misunderstand, I’m not mad at anyone who chose to do so necessarily, but personally as much as I am DYING to read the chapters (even moreso because everyone keeps talking about how amazingly awesome they are- of course I knew they would be, but still, hearing about it makes it that much worse), I WILL NOT b/c I feel like it’s wrong and well… well other people have already explained why, and I agree with them. I will read the copy that Stephenie wants to be read, or not read it at all.
Oh, and by the way Kathrynwitte, I just thought I would point out (only because you asked) that Stephenie Meyer wasn’t trying to ACCOMPLISH anything by what she did… I know it’s very strange in this day and age, but she was actually doing something because she wanted to stay true to herself, her books, and her characters, rather than doing something to get something out of it for herself (money, publicity, or punishing others, etc.). Strange concept, I know, but for once someone famous was doing something for completely unselfish reasons not related to some higher publicity purpose or to the punishment of other people (not that that punishment wouldn’t be deserved, but Stephenie’s above that).
I will not read the leaked chapters of midnight sun. If there is even a small chance that stephanie will publish the book, I don’t want to ruin it by reading half of it on the web. I DEFINATLY will buy a copy when it comes out!
i read it. i didn’t even consider not reading it and i’ll still buy it when/if she releases it. i’ll probably buy multiple copies just like the twilight series and give them to all of my girlfriends because i refuse o loan out my books.

I didnt want to read it, but it was stronger then me…I read the draft on her site…And I love it…I have know that Emmett was funny, but that funny….And Edward become more perfect…
Im still in the middle of wanting to read it and not wanting to because it just seemed wrong. I was so looking forward for it to be published but now someone thought it would be good to ruin it for everyone else and its not fair but of course lifes not fair
i am one of the people who read the 12 chapters on her website. i couldn’t help it. i tried to resist but i just couldn’t. the chapters were so good. i believe probably the best that she has ever written. the insight into edward is completely and utterly breathtaking. however, i do not believe, as someone stated above, that SM was trying to hurt anybody. she is probably going through so many emotions right now. anger, hurt, embarrassment, sadness because this was something that was very close to her heart and she is putting it on hold. i mean come on? how hard do you think that was for her to do? she’s an author, she loves writing. just as said before, if she continues on writing midnight sun, i WILL be there at midnight waiting for a copy, like a true devoted fan.
personally, i’m not going to read the 12 chapters. i read the draft of the first chapter before the leak and i was so excited to read the whole book. i’m just disappointed in stephanie meyer. i dont think she should have let the leak get to her that bad. to me it looks like the only reason shes not publishing it is to make herself look good by giving up millions of dollars. it shouldn’t be about the money, at all. she should publish it for all the disappointed fans who are now having to pay for one misguided person’s mistake.
i’m not hating on stephanie or anything. i love her and thank her for the gifts she’s given everyone, but i just thought she would be strong enough to stay on track and not let something like this deter her.
Midnight Sun was awesome…….I truly hope that she finishes it. I, like many others, have fallen in love with the characters and their life. To see things from anothers eyes, especially Edward, is awesome. It brings out another emotion than what you feel from Bella’s eyes. I can’t get enough…..please please please finish it……it’s SOOOO amazing!
I did read it… Couldn’t help my self! And I Agree with Stephenie Meyer’s Mom… Midnight Sun is Magic! Anyone who loves Edward will love this! Seeing Twilight through his eyes is incredible! He’s even more funny, human & irresistable. Plus, you get to know the Cullens a lot better. A Wonderful Story I hope gets finished! It’s too Incredible to be left undone.

As much as i am ashamed to say,i read da leaked chapters and tink der better dan all da books in da series=]I am a big twilight fan so i felt truely awful readin it but i had to.I really hope it’s finshed soon because it like da best book i ever read.I really can’t wait 2 years,but i’m sure it was a big violation of her privacy but fair play to her for letting da pages stay up so her fans would b ok.I think u can read da book but it’s better if ya wait,if i cud go back i would try very hard not 2=]
i feel we shouldnt read it. Even though i really want to. Im not going to. I think it is just as bad of an idea to read it as it is to leak it.
However if SM feels so strongly about this i think she needs to take the link to MS off of her website because it is ridiculous. Dont get me wrong i love SM but really if she’s gonna stop writing it for now it doesnt help to put the link up on her site. If she doesnt want the words MS mentioned because it “hurts her” she needs to take it down so it doesnt remind her of it. I
as a twilight reader, i am so tempted to read the 12 chapters from Midnight Sun. it sounds amzingly good! i mean whats better twilight with a whole new twist in my FAVORITE character’s P.O.V.? idk…but i do want to respect stephenie because she said the midnight sun was a book that she wanted her fans to read in its entirety, no sneak peeks. therefore i say dont read the leaked part of Midnight Sun. if stephenie wants us to read, she’ll publish the book, if not, then i guess it was never meant to be.
I read the first chapter that was on Stephenie’s website and I have to read more! I’m not going to lie, if I were to find the leaked version I would ready it.. But I would without a doubt buy the book if she ever decides to finish the dang thing!
i for one will NOT read it until she publishes it….. unlike some ppl i actually want to wait.. the suspense may be hard but its part of the enjoyment… and the excitment i will feel when it finally comes out will tell me that it was SO worth the wait…. reading it ahead in my book is considered… CHEATING and it might stop her from publishing it! so dont cheat…. would it help if i said please?

the first day that midnight sun got leaked was so horrible. I thought of not reading it for it will only torment me not to finish the book since that its only draft and now that i longed to read it i cant locate it anywhere and i found your website instead. hehe!

i have been dyiiing to read the leaked 12 chapters..and for the moment i am still torn..it is hard to risist somethin that i love..haha kinda like edward n bella!! i really hope that she is able to rethink it all through and able to finish this book after finishin her own projects..i do understand that this is an issue of respect..but i hope she realizes that her fans are itching to read this and are ALLL HOPIN that she decides to publish the book..i mean who is not dying to see wat is really goin on in edwards head!

well, i think it’s sad that there has been a leak about the midnight sun. though i’ve read some of the chapters. i saw on this website, pictures of the unfinished book. and i thought that the one who put that on is just sooooooooooooo mean and disrespectful. ugh! i hate it. so i’ve decided that i’m just gonna wait for the published book and buy it. i’m truly sorry that i’ve read some of the chapters. really sorry. and i hope that stephenie meyer decides to finish the midnight sun book,
I refuse to read it as per Stephenie’s wishes and my respect for her. I will only read it when it is hard bound and sold in a booked store. It’s hard to do when your addicted to the Saga but I will hold true to my word. I’ll just keep rereading all 4 books til something new comes out.
I love twilight its all i think about! so when i heard about midnight sun i readthe first chapter which was posted on the website and i really wanted more so i read the 12 chapters.. sorry. ive read it about 7 times now just reding it over and over again.. because its so sad. there was once a story about a girl and a boy, they were both in love with each other but they didnt tell the other person. one day the girl died in a car crash the boy went to the funeral, the girls mother upon seeing the boy gave him her daughters diary which she confined her feelings about the boy in, but by then it was to late, i dont know what happened after that. anyway this is alot like midnight sun- he loves her she loves him but they dont think the other could ever love them. i cry every time i read it and ill be heart broken if stephanie doesn’t finish the book.
I am new to the Twilight community; three days ago, I read “Twilight” for the first time, and yesterday I finished “Breaking Dawn” (I didn’t get much else done over those two days, but it was *so* worth it
). Much as I love all the characters in the series - especially the indomitable Alice, and the truly brave and beautiful Bella (her name really suits her) - Edward is my favorite. Honestly, if he were real, I’d probably be in love with him, too. So when, hungry for more, I went to Stephanie’s website to see if there would be a sequel to the Twilight Saga, you can imagine my absolute ecstasy to find out about MS - only to plummet into deep disappointment as I read about the leaking scandal and Stephanie’s decision to put the book on hold. After reading her statement, and seeing the partial draft posted there on the site, I was torn - I desperately wanted to have more of the Twilight universe, and the chance to see the story from Edward’s perspective was a nearly irresistible temptation! I read the first chapter draft she had posted initially, thinking that would be enough to satiate my desire for MS - bad move! I *LOVED* it. It was everything I’d dreamed it would be and more - that sounds cliche, but any Twilight fan that has read it will know how true it is. Now I wanted to read the partial draft even more! However, one line in Stephanie’s statement was enough to give me pause: she wrote, “I’d rather my fans not read this version of Midnight Sun.” Of course, that goes without saying - if she wanted us to read that version, she would have published it. But more than the idea that only half of the story was done, more than the fact that the leak was a violation of her legal rights, even more than the pain and sadness that Stephanie obviously felt over the loss of artistic control involved in having thousands of fans your unfinished work without permission, that single statement made my decision obvious. Because ultimately, Stephanie knows the characters, and the story best - and the version she gives her fans to read will be the best version possible. That’s what I want. I want the perfect, amazing, beautiful, complete and finalized Midnight Sun published by Stephanie Meyer - the real deal. Anything less is just not enough. So, I’ll be anticipating and waiting for Stephanie to be ready to return to writing Midnight Sun; I’ll re-read the published books in the Twilight Saga over and over, I’ll see all the films, and probably re-read that first chapter a few times, too. Because the only Midnight Sun that I want to read, is the one that Stephanie wants me to read. No leaked, partial version could even come close.

I only read the first chapter that she has on her website. as much of a fan that i am after i read i realized why she said that she didnt want anyone to read it. i wish there was more to read and want to strangle the person who leaked them onto the internet, but i hope she finishes it

I’ve found the 12 chapters oh twilight and I read it before that I knew that you didn’t what that we read it. SO, I stopped where I was,(REALLY HARD) and I just hopped that you’ll continue the others chapters after because it is really cool to know what Edward is thinking. But, if you don’t want us to read it, I will not read it until yiou’ll published it.

i read the 12 chapters she put on her site and i fell awful about it but i couldnt help it yes i think she should finsh it even if it is only for her and her familys eyes there is just so much to the story that hasnt been told yet (Edward’s side of it all) that should be put down i wish i could find the one that leaked it and let he/she have it but i think we should leave it alone even if she dose not send it to print like some of u said it seems to be apart of her and it should stay that way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first I didn’t even know that Stephenie Meyer was starting a new book, and when I heard it, I was so thankfull. I love the books, just like almost every one. But I was afraid that it was a rumor so I checked Stephenie Meyers official site, and I say that she had left a note saying that there was a leak from her new book, midnight sun.
I have read it. And in some ways I’m glad I did so,
It is wonderfull, and I can’t wait till it’s out. And I have to wait longer then the most of you will have to, because I have to wait for the delivary from England[I think.] to The Netherlands.
I know it’s sounds stupid.
But I realy think that I already like the story of Edward more than the story from Bella’s perspective. And I truely loved that.

I was NOT going to read it. I was tempted but i was not going to read it. THEN MY MOM IS ON THE COMPUTER AND I COME UP BEHIND HER TO GIVE HER A HUG AND SEE WHAT SHE IS DOING! SHE IS READING SOMETHING! I WANT TO KNOW WHAT SHE IS READING SO I START READING SOME OF IT! I think for a person interested in writing eould benefit seeing the final and teh leaked. But reading it was hard for me. I read it finally but i started just reading the first few pages to see what it was about… i think the final version will be different or added to more so i am glad on that part

i began reading midnight sun, but i couldnt read more than a few pages, i felt terrible about it! what i read was incredible, and if stephanie ends up not finishing it, i will read the reast, but my friends have read it, and say the the medow scene is not included, and thats the man thing i want to read….i kindof hope that she would do breaking dawn from edwards perspective as well, thats my favorite of the series, especially the 2nd section from jacobs point of view. i really want to know what hes thinking, and there not much about how he feels about renesmee in it. bella says that he speaks of her the way devout people speak of their gods, but there is no more detail. does he love her as much as bella does, would he die for her? im not convinced truthfully that he has the same kind of emotional attatchment to his baby girl as everyone else……im not sure, but the more edward the better
I too would have prefered Edward`s side of the story in Breaking Dawn. I never understood if Edward felt the same love for Renesmee as Bella. I have not read Midnight Sun yet, although I am sorely tempted. I hope Stephanie finishes it, but she obviously feels let down and thats what keeps me from reading Midnight Sun.
I admitt I have down loaded it but I cant bring myself to read it for a few reasons.
1, I cant stand not reading a book fuller even if there is more than one Ive got to have them all b4 reading them
