Once again, this contest is sponsored by Brian Leaf, author of Defining Twilight. You can find out more about Defining Twilight here. Read the description and a review of the book below:

Defining Twilight Reviews and Description
“I never would have believed that students could study vocabulary and enjoy a great book like Twilight at the same time, but Brian Leaf makes it possible!”
– Peter Facinelli, Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the Twilightsaga movies

“Brian Leaf has taken the pain out of studying for standardized tests. He shows students how to use Twilight to increase their word power. Who would have thought that learning vocabulary could be so much fun?”
– Bruce Hammond, Fiske Guide to Getting Into the Right College.

Product Description
Can you resist the allure of Edward’s myriad charms—his ocher eyes and tousled hair, the cadence of his speech, his chiseled alabaster skin, and his gratuitous charm? Will you hunt surreptitiously and tolerate the ceaseless deluge in Forks to evade the sun and uphold the facade? Join Edward and Bella as you learn more than 600 vocabulary words to improve your score on the *SAT, ACT®, GED®, and SSAT® exams!

Use this workbook side-by-side with your own copy of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight!
• Each chapter of the workbook gives you eight words taken from Twilight, with page references for you to read the words in the context of your favorite novel
• Define the words on your own before turning back to the workbook for their actual definitions
• At the end of each section you’ll take SAT, ACT, GED, and SSAT drills and quizzes to review and integrate what you’ve learned
• Plus, you’ll learn synonyms, Latin word parts, and memorization tools throughout the workbook

Review by: Evie:

Can an obsession with Twilight actually help to improve your SAT scores?

In Defining Twilight, Brian Leaf has given the worldwide bestseller Twilight a practical application, as an aid in studying for the all-important SAT, ACT, GED and SSAT tests.

Defining Twilight looks at 40 groups of words used throughout the novel, giving the exact page on which they occur. You start by writing what each word might mean by looking at the way it is used in Twilight, then immediately checking the definition against the answer on the next page. Following definitions, Leaf then looks at synonyms, analogies and completing sentence with the words and even includes a short quiz every few groups. Reading and defining are one thing, but with this unique connection to Twilight, comprehension and the ability to retain the word long term are improved.

While reading Defining Twilight, I enjoyed checking the words back and forth between the meanings, and finding them in Twilight. There are even examples in Defining Twilight where a previous word is compared to a later word such as prattled- A person who prattles is definitely verbose, such as Jessica when she talks about Mike. As someone who has read Twilight many times, I can attest to the fact that Jessica does indeed prattle, and is verbose when she prattles.
Another great part of Defining Twilight are all the pop cultural references. From Ferris Bueller, Austin Powers, Harry Potter and even Wii, Defining Twilight makes easy references that anyone can remember, while also making you laugh.

The only criticism I have is that I wish there was a pronunciation guide included with the definitions. It could only help the comprehension to try and say the words out loud. I’m just sorry that my ACT and SAT days are over. I remember my mom trying to get me to study for mine, and how I resisted. If Defining Twilight had been around, I’d have gladly studied. All things considered, given Edward’s obsession with Bella getting into a good college, Defining Twilight is exactly the kind of book he would approve of.

Nobody knows Twilight better than you (the reader!) so we are confident that you will all come up with some amazing taglines. Good luck to everyone – these are some prizes you don’t want to miss out on!

EDIT (7-18-09): THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. ANY ENTRIES SUBMITTED AFTER THIS POINT WILL BE DISCARDED. TO VIEW THE WINNERS, CLICK HERE

This contest is sponsored by Book By You and their personalized romance novel Vampire Kisses. You can find out more about Vampire Kisses here. If you’d like to purchase the book for you or a friend, type in “tan09″ at the checkout to receive 10% off. Read two reviews of the book below:

Review by: Team Switzerland (Kara):
Vampire Kisses is a personalized romance novel written by D.S. Foxx and co-authored by you. You’re given the opportunity to personalize more than 24 selections in the book, including the heroine’s information (everything from her name, to her eye color, her pet’s name, and more), her female friend’s information, and then you move onto the hero’s information. You even have the option of personalizing the cover with your names and your own photo.

Though the personalization factor is great, the story itself does not disappoint. It starts off with a serendipitous encounter between the heroine and hero in the college library and follows with another meeting at a campus party. With each encounter, the hero seems to mysteriously disappear each time, leaving the heroine intrigued and wanting more. After the party, the heroine and her best friend go searching for the hero, but little do they know who – our should I say what – he really is. In a very Twilight-y type of way, the hero – who I hope you’ve guessed by now is a vampire – stays away from the heroine for fear that if he doesn’t, his instincts might get the best of him and she’ll become his prey. The heroine ends up discovering her hero’s dark secret and their love is tested, while the reader is left on the edge of their seat.

Vampire Kisses only comes up short in one area: the number of pages. With only 175 pages, the book is a very quick read and you’re left wanting more of this great story. Twilight and vampire fans will enjoy this story for its plot, but the personalization factor is what makes this book a keeper. You’ll chuckle to yourself when seeing your heroine and hero’s names on the cover, and you’ll continue to smile when reading the story and picking out all the fine details you personalized. Vampire Kisses is a must for you, and if you’re feeling generous, a great gift for a friend.

Review by: Dawnnoelle (Dawn):
I was given an opportunity to read BookByYou (personalized book), Vampire Kisses. Being a fan of vampire stories, I couldn’t pass up the chance to read this book.

When ordering the book, I was asked to personalize it by choosing the name and appearance of my best friend and the hero.
I chose to name my hero Edward (lol) and he has green eyes (I wonder where I got that from…). I was able to choose my pet and pet name.

The book arrived in the late afternoon. The cover first caught my attention – it was surreal to see my name (with the hero) as the title.
I hoped to read a few pages and go back to other work. No such luck. I could not put Vampire Kisses down once I started. I read the entire book in one sitting. I was disappointed when it ended.

It’s a fun read, almost Twilight-esque. Much of the story takes place on a college campus. The hero is mysterious and intriguing.
Without giving too much away, the plot twists held my attention.

Vampire Kisses would be a great gift for a friend or loved one.

We are very eager to hear your thoughts on the New Moon trailer and thrilled to be able to give away this great, personalized book to three of you. Good luck to everyone!
