DAILY RECORD: MOVIE Q & A WITH ROBERT PATTINSON

Posted December 19th, 2008 By: 11 Comments »

The Daily Record has a short Q & A with Rob.

Q. HOW did you feel about the fans’ reaction in the first few weeks you were cast? They weren’t very happy about you being Edward.

A. I WASN’T really surprised to be honest. But I wanted to play the part. I didn’t really care what anyone else thought about it. I just decided, I had an idea how to do it, and people will like it or won’t like it. It’s the same as anything, right? You can’t convince anybody. You just have to do what you think is right and accept the consequences.
Q. SO how did you prepare for this role?

A. I WAS really unfit last year, so I worked out for a long time, then spent time by myself in Oregon. For about two months the only person I saw was my trainer. Every day I did a lot of running and I just didn’t want to talk to anyone for two months. So when I started talking again, it was like you would communicate wrongly, like you wouldn’t really remember how to speak. That was one of the key things as well as just reading the book, reading the script a million times, just figuring things out.

Q. HAVING played a vampire are you more scared about dying?

A. MAY BE I’m just paranoid. I get scared in the back of cabs now, I think I’m going to die in a cab, I get scared when I’m driving, I think I’m going to die when I’m driving, and I think I’m in a cab when I’m driving which is very unfortunate, and I’ll say, “Hey can we pull over and get some cash,” and then I realise I’m driving. I did that last night – it’s very worrying.

And it’s not because of a bender.

Rob seems to have a lot of paranoid death issues. Hmm, should we psycho-analyze him? LOL I’m just kidding. He’s a good sport though.

I agree with him about not caring – he did this part for himself. What do you think of this interview and his responses?

He seems really paranoid about a lot. I think he’s a great guy though. And I hope the fame doesnt hurt him ya know. I read an article where it says in Italy he just started crying. Like I really hope the guy gets some downtime and private time, it seems stressful for him. Just hope he’s ok.

  • bizzimomma

agreed, Laura. More and more of the interviews I’m seeing or reading have Robert coming off as physically and emotionally drained–a sort of Twilight Fatigue Syndrome, or Post-Twilight Stress Disorder. If he’s to be in any condition to give us a good Edward in New Moon, he’d better get some serious downtime.

    panic attacks….panic disorder, maybe….?

  • aerialla

I’d probably have a panic disorder as well if I had to live this poor guys life. He’s received death threats for crying out loud. Just to walk down the street has got to be scary when you have people stalking you and constantly taking pictures. It’s a wonder he’s not stuck in a looney bin.

  • lilly

I admire rob for his courage. I mean, they are actors and this is the life they chose to lead so they can’t complain BUT i do ocassionaly feel sorry for them. That would be very emotionally drianing and after a while you could even forget who you are and what you’re all about. My advice for rob would be to (after his played his roles in new moon and parts per billion) would be to just take a step out of the spotlight. SOunds to me like he mind need a psychatrist while he’s at it. p.s cant wait for little ashes :)

Some people take others far too seriously.

He is using sarcasm. He has an extremely sarcastic wit (typical of people from the UK) and is intelligent to boot.

He is fine. He is not paranoid. He is taking a situation he felt maybe once and applying it to every word he says. Trust me. I’ve known my share of quick witted individuals.

Robert is just being silly because he is being asked questions he doesn’t know how to answer ‘seriously’ or doesn’t want to answer with enough personal attention so crazy fans will get any ideas.

  • Ashleigh

I think that everyone loves him.
So I think that its time us twilighters
Give him a break and like stop stalking him.
[[In real life still online though lol]]
I think that he just needs to relax
so maybe we should give him a break
    he really seems terified.
    “/
So I just know that all he needs is to chill
before New Moon so he can do a great job like
He did in the first one.
    ^_^

I’m glad he did the role of Edward, for himself, not because he thought he was the “ideal” man. That’s probably what made him suit the role so well.

I’m a LITTLE concerned about his paranoia, though. Lol

  • Midfan

I think he’s joking about the paranoia, but I think he’s being a little serious too. I feel for both he and Kristen, because they didn’t sign up to do a big blockbuster, trying to get famous. They both were just looking at it as a job, work, for paying bills. I know they are both looking at the positive stuff that will come from this, better roles etc. but I wonder if they would have taken the roles if they had known what a big deal it would become and that they will always be identified with these literary character now? I know some interview asked Rob and he said he would have still done it but played the role differently (which would have probably been a huge mistake and been a flop, lol), but I think he answered it before the screaming started.

  • Mrs. Whitlock

I don’t think his problem is so much his role (as he wanted it and asked for it), as it is all the fangirls. If I was as insanely popular as Robert I would be freaking out too! I’m pretty close to normal, despite my own fears of death.

Poor Rob just needs a little more patience and understanding from his fans. He’s just another guy, not superman, not a REAL vampire. He needs to be treated like a human, not a superhuman. He needs us to be comforting and understanding of the emotional, mental, physical demands that his career is placing on him. We need to be the kind of fans he needs to make him want to give us a good show.

Robert and Kristen read this! Okay so i loved the movie completely same with the book.Personally I think Robert Pattison is the best choice for Edward Cullen because Robert Pattison is soooo hot and his voice is like music.I mean in a magazine I recently read I think it was M magazine anyway he sayed people called him ugly and I told my friend that I wanted to puch whoever said that in the face because he is beautiful. And in the article that i read when he said that ,it said that Kristen Stewart said she wanted to make sure Robert got the job which I think is so unbelievable of her and I was so proud that she stood up for him . So just to say if Robert or Kristen ever reads this Robert you are so hot dont listen to what other people say and Kristen you rock for standing up for Robert so thanks for the best movie of my life you guys!
