DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD DAILY: 5.8 MILLION WATCH ‘NEW MOON’ TRAILER

Nikki Finke from Deadline Hollywood Daily has some incredible news to share with us today:
UPDATE: These fresh stats are astounding. Summit Entertainment has a count of 4.2 million views for the New Moon trailer from MySpace, and another 1.6 million from MTV.com, so that’s 5.8 million combined views in the first 24 hours from its two domestic online launch partners. By comparison, the 3rd (and last) trailer for Twilight received 3.2 million views in its first 48 hours on MySpace, piddling compared to viewership for the sequel’s trailer. This is what’s causing the traffic jam.
These numbers are incredible! 5.8 million people in only 24 hours? I wonder what the record is, because that has got to be record-breaking. I can definitely believe it though, if anything will break all records, anything related to Twilight has a good shot.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I’m not sure I like sharing all this with the world. I wish we could’ve kept all this for just US. You know, the REAL LOVERS of all the books,and characters. It cracks me up,when someone at my job,is telling me something about TWILIGHT,and I’ve known it for a week or 2 already. They act like they are really into the story and characters,when really they are just trying to be cool,and pretending they know what’s going on. PHONIES. That’s why all the views for the NM trailer sound great,but are these people just curious,or are they really into OUR TWILIGHT? Does anyone else feel this way?

Although I expected huge numbers, I’m soooo excited! I probably counted for a good percentage of the votes, haha - over and over and over again!!!
I just wish they counted the YouTube views! Just glancing and some quick estimations, there’s AT LEAST 2 million views!!!

also i’d like to say that i think it has more views than twilight cause as in my case after the first movie i became a twilight fan with the books and now with everything…i mean in my country people didn’t even know what twilight was..but now it’s a different story…so excited x that

I too am not surprised, look at how many times we all watched twilight in the theater and who as a twilight addict has not read the whole saga at least 4,5,6 times. Everything about twilght is so familiar now I hope they don’t over promote it, just a good balance. Enough to feed our obsession and not too much to feed the haters. At least the cast won’t have to do those mall tours. Especially with Eclipse filming coming on the heels of New Moon filming finishing.
They didn’t add youtube to this and it has over 4 million views over there. SO THESE aren’t really even the official numbers.
I was sick as a dog in L.A. and the hotel I stayed in didn’t have MTV. EGADS!! Good thing I recorded it but I have to say I wanted to be part of the hype!
So - dumb question - but are the rest of you walking around with butterflies every time you think of everything/anything Twilight saga? Which equates to any given time you’re not thinking about something else? I think I need help! Now I have read other people’s accounts of feeling like they’re insane and I chuckle to myself and know that I’m in the right company but this is getting ridiculous! Seriously everyone…

Ha,Ha Chris: no you don’t need help, you’re not alone. It does seem silly but that’s how it is for all of us here that have read this saga. I keep searching for something else to read that will capture my attention and emotions like Twilight but alas, so far it’s not out there. I wish Stephanie would finish MNS, at least that would help…..for a bit anyway.

You’re a total sweetie to chime in like that. I vacillate between self-talk that I’m fine - and personal insanity. I’m normally quite stable but this whole Rob/Twilight thing has knocked all the sense out of me! And obviously my comment above was a sort of muted “CRY FOR HELP” just to make sure I’m surrounded with others in the same boat. Common sense says I’m a tad too old for this but yet here I am.

Never feel too old for the twilight fanclub. Just because Little Brown lables it as a Young Adult novel doesnt nessasarily mean that it’s only for kids. Im 31 and I have a burning, obsessive, embarassing crush on Rob Pattinson; who’s 9 years my junior. Ugh! He makes my heart rev to life like a stalled lawn mower! And as silly as it sometimes feels, I’ve never had so much fun in all my life. TWILIGHTERS, OF ALL AGES, RULE!
We are a passionate crew aren’t we?! Look at the mtv movie awards. We dominated. I dont think anyone was able to focus on Ben Stiller and that stupid decade award, since it was after the New Moon trailer. Even the audiance had to be settled down. LOL!
It’s funny, it helps to hear the similarity of the postings of others. You are surrounded and you are not too old for this. The Rob/Twilight thing has infected many, many girls/women. It’s Stephanie’s fault, ha,ha. But she has brought together kindred spirits. We can be obsessing over pictures,etc. one minute and going for the jugular next when some one speaks badly of the object of our desire. All in heartfelt good fun… Hug back.

This makes me smile because the figures they’re quoting don’t even take into account the Youtube versions that popped up a mere ten minutes after the trailer aired on the MTV M.A.s. Add up those totals and you’ve got…what, 6.5 Million? That’s the population of a small European country.
Twilighters rule. Especially the Twihards who take the trouble to stay up late/get up early to catch the trailer before heading off to work or school.
