DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD DAILY: MORE ‘ECLIPSE’ DIRECTOR NEWS

Posted April 21st, 2009 By: Evie 12 Comments »

Nikki Finke is back to tell us more about who may, or may not be directing the next installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse:

Insiders tell me that Summit Entertainment is talking to very edgy director David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days Of Night) about helming Eclipse, the 3rd pic in the Twilight Saga. I understand he’s met with author Stephenie Meyer and Summit prez of production Erik Feig. But let me be clear: there’s no deal yet. (Why do I care? Let me be transparent — because those Twilight fans generate heaps of web traffic…)

SOURCE

I have to say, the last line in Nikki’s paragraph made me laugh so hard. Apparently us Twilighters are known for the numbers we can generate online. Who’d have thought, hahaha! I know absolutely nothing about David Slade, I’m going to have to go look him up and see if I know his work at all.

Have you seen David Slade’s movies? How would you feel about him as a possible director?

I have seen 30 days of night. Its Not my favorite movie, but its not too bad. Whoever the chose for director i’m sure the movie will be a hit.

  • Taun85

Well he also directed a few of Muse’s music videos according to wikipedia.

Based on my knowledge of Hard Candy, if this director does Eclipse, Eclipse will look a lot like Twilight did because Slade and Hardwicke have similar “art” styles. Is that a good or bad thing? Who knows. What about Weitz’s brother? Any updates on that one? I’d want the director of Eclipse to work closely with Weitz while he’s in post-pro of New Moon so that both movies look uniform. All movies in the series should blend well together.

I don’t understand why they need to change directors for every film..i get that they all have a bit of a differetn feel to each book, but wouldn’t it run smoother if they were all done by the same director?!

2 eyekandi……chris weitz isnt going to be directing eclipse because new moon will still be in post production by the time they start filming eclipse so he wont have time to film it

30 Days of Night was a horrible movie – oh please let’s not go there.

I also want to know what happened to Weitz’s brother, he’d be closer to Weitz – good for continuity sake.

This director fits, he’s made a gruesome comic come to life, and Eclipse is the most violent one in the saga.. he’ll be perfect.

(Why do I care? Let me be transparent — because those Twilight fans generate heaps of web traffic…) heheheheheheheheheheheheh I know for a fact that we do. I just wish I had more Twilighters here in UAE.

well amybe daiv slae can give hte nweborns a really crepey vibe. i hope they cofrim it sono though

I am still confused as to why they are looking for a new director. Does Chris Weitz not want to do it? Or is he unavailable? Wouldnt it make more sense to keep the same director?

  • xchris79

I agree why can’t they all use the same director. Plus 30 days of night had great actors but there was no story, it was just people getting killed by vampires for two hours. It had no substance! They better pick someone that has read the books plus has atleast met Stephanie Meyers and understands the nature of the story. Why can’t they all participate somewhat in all the movies. Or would there be an ego problem.

i love Hard Candy. that is such a weird, but amazing movie. it was good directing i guess, but nothing really showed how far he could go because it all took place in a house and didn’t venture far from there except to up on the roof top and for about 10 minutes they were in a cafe. but i guess if he works hard enough and brings his thoughts of direction to the set before it all begins, then i believe he will make a great movie.

I kind of liked Hard Candy. Alot of it was pretty intense…but it was good. I think this guy will do good things with Eclipse.
