DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD: ECLIPSE MOVIE AND DATE ANNOUNCED
Deadline Hollywood, the same people who broke the news of Catherine Hardwicke’s departure, have just reported that they’ve gotten confirmation for an ‘Eclipse’ movie. Not only do they tell us that ‘New Moon’ and ‘Eclipse’ will NOT be shot back to back, but they also give us the reported release date.
I’ve confirmed there’s no director hired yet. And the two productions won’t be back-to-back. But that hasn’t stopped Summit Entertainment from newly scheduling its Twilight threequel for release on June 30, 2010, not long after its Twilight sequel New Moon set for November 20th this year now being helmed by Chris Weitz. Summit also officially changed the name of its vampire movie franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling series of novels to The Twilight Saga. Here’s how Summit descibes the plot of the threequel Eclipse:“As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death.”
Regarding The Twilight Saga, my sources tell me that director Catherine Hardwick’s claim in her diary that she didn’t want to helm New Moon isn’t accurate because Summit decided not to hire her for New Moon. And I’ve also learned that Summit only had a deal with Stephenie Meyer for the first book, Twilight. So the start-up film studio had to make individual deals for the other books in Meyer’s series — and the author got top-dollar, trust me. To date, Summit’s low-cost blockbuster Twilight has earned $363 million in worldwide grosses — almost evenly divided between domestic and international — since its release on November 21st, 2008.
Edit: A second source, MTV, is now reporting they’ve gotten confirmation from a Summit Representative that ‘Eclipse’ IS confirmed. Summit is expected to make their official announcement this weekend. Read the story here.
Wow, that release date is pretty soon. How can they not film back to back if they plan on pumping the movies out that quickly? In any sense, I’m still excited to hear something about ‘Eclipse’. Remember - this is not officially confirmed by Summit yet, although Deadline Hollywood is fairly accurate.

Okay so they might not film it all at once but maybe stop 2 or 3 months and start filming again so that would mean that when they start promoting New Moon they will probably be in the middle of filming. All I want is for the movies to be well done and stay true to the book! I’m excited it would be coming out a week and a half after my b-day!

I am extremely leary of such a rush on the third movie. I already thought 11-20-09 was pushing it for New Moon.
We won’t know until we see it, but I hope Summit hasn’t been blinded by the avalanche at the bank, and are allowing that to sway their actions on the movies they produce.
If they throw out a lousy movie, just to meet a preconceived deadline, without regard to artistic quality, then I predict hell breaking loose.
Oh Summit, have you ever heard the phrase “Hell Knoweth no Fury Like a Woman Scorned?” Take that thought and apply it to the many, many millions of fans, let’s be honest, most are female, and you may have an inkling of what to expect if you screw us over with bad movies.

This makes me sad actually. I was really interested to see what Chris could do with New Moon and I would like to see him continue doing the others if New Moon turned out really good, like I expect it will. Give him a chance at least, you know? Seems like they’re pushing this through too quickly. If they’re not filming them back-to-back, I don’t see what the big deal would be about waiting a few extra months until all the promo is done and Chris can direct the next one. Seems like they just got Chris up to speed with everything and it would be a shame to only use him for one movie and have to go through all the ins and outs with yet another director. I was really looking forward to seeing what Chris would do with the franchise. I bet he would do awesome things with it if he could be kept on for the final 3.
Hmm…just had a thought. Perhaps if Chris can’t direct Eclipse, he can at least direct Breaking Dawn. Eclipse was my least favorite of the 4 books anyway, and I think they’ll need someone who is really good with concept and special effects to direct Breaking Dawn, so maybe he’d be able to take over the director’s seat again for that film.
If this is really the case, when do you think they’ll film Breaking Dawn? I’m really interested to see how it turns out.
I’m so excited!!! these movies are practically back to back, how they will do that without filming at the same time I don’t know. I just hope the movies will be great and stay true to the books. Does anyone know whether or not they will be making Breaking Dawn????
I think the rush to do Eclipse so quickly is not so much motivated by money but having to face the reality that Rob needs to keep looking 17 years old and that both Rob and Kristen probably want to move on to do other projects.
I think this is stupid! I mean I can’t wait to see them all but I want quality not quantity. I’d rather wait a year in between films as long as it’s perfect. Rushing to get two sloppy movies is an insult to the fans!! How can they possibly release two awsome movies to meet our standards in less than a year? I hope summit knows what their doing because their are too many people who live for anything twilight!
I’m torn with this news. It makes me excited that we’ll be able to see Eclipse on the big screen so soon (A LOT sooner than I would have expected) but I hope they will do a GREAT job w/Eclipse so that it stays true to the book & makes us fans happy. I LOVE Eclipse and will be excited to see how they turn it into a movie. I REALLY hope Summit isn’t rushing this just for the $$$$$$$$ like it seems they’re already doing for NM.

but i hope they don’t rush it too much. I mean, seriously! That’s only like, 7 months after the release of New moon. I mean, I thought that they were rushing New Moon too much, so I hope this isn’t just Summit being too greedy. And if they do turn out crap there will be a LOT of angry fans.
I wonder who will be directing Eclipse then… I will be really sad to see Chris go if he does in fact do a really good job. Just like I was with Catherine. I liked her.

Im am really worried about this.
I mean..If they are NOT being shot back to back..how’s that going to work..I read that there is a brief gap in between the filming of each movie, it wont give Eclipse enough time to be really great!! New Moon has like what, 8\9 months? and Eclipse will only have probably around 6/7, i really dont like this.

I have mixed feelings about this deadline! As a Twilighter, the shorter the time I have to wait means EVERYTHING!!! But.. on the other hand, I really, really don’t want them to rush the movie. This also means that the quicker they do them, the quicker they go off screen. I know that there will be more thrills in the Twilight universe after the movies but maybe just not as thrilling. =(

I’m glad they’ll be close together. I mean the books aren’t like Harry Potter where each one is a separate year. Bella is 17-18 and almost 19 throughout all four books. Shooting them a year apart doesn’t make sense. Not that Kristen, Rob and company will age that much in a few years like the Harry Potter kids do, it’s just that to keep it real they don’t need to take chances. Right? I mean these “kids” (Kristen, Rob, etc.) are adults. They won’t grow like teenagers, but the WILL age. I do have quality concerns w/ rushing them, though.

I am excited about the 3rd book.I’ve read all 4books they better not stop at the 3rd book. they would have a riot on there hands. i will be buy all 4movies and sound tracks. i hope s. meyers finishes the 5th book please.

GREAT i am so excited about eclipse i have been witing for the release date forever.
I am so excited to hear about Summit on board for Eclispe. Eclispe was my favorite book because most of the story was about Bella and Edward and how their relationship grows. I think Chris will do a great job on New Moon and Summit will snap him up for Eclipse and probably Breaking Dawn with his special effects knowledge.
I don’t think that Rob and Kirsten want to have Twilight behind them, I mean lets face it these movies are their first really big break into the movie industry. My biggest concern is that if Summit waits to long to confirm the commitment to the other movies, Rob and Kirsten will find other work and the Twilight franchise would not be the same with Rob and Kirsten. It’s like having Harry Potter without Daniel Radcliff, wouldn’t work. I hope they pay them big money to do all 4 movies. They are worth it!!!

I am very excited for eclispe. I so intune with the twilight saga. I keep reading the books and watching twilight just so i hear the actors voice to go with my reading. Can’t wait for the movie to come out. If people think the movies are to close together they could always push it back a month or so.
