ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: ROBERT PATTINSON AND FRIENDS

Posted June 23rd, 2009 By: Evie 8 Comments »

Entertainment Weekly has a great article in their current issue that looks at the musical talents of Robert Pattinson and his friends who wrote with him on the Twilight soundtrack.

NAMES/AGES: Robert Pattinson, 23; Bobby Long, 22; Sam Bradley, 22; Marcus Foster, 23.

WHY THEM: One of these names you know. The others you might not, but their profiles are quickly rising, thanks to their songwriting work on the still-hot Twilight soundtrack. Bradley co-penned “Never Think” with Pattinson, while Long and Foster wrote bonus track “Let Me Sign”

FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES: How did three obscure musicians score such a prominent gig? They had an in: Foster and Bradley went to school with the British actor, Long met the other three at an open-mike night. (Before Twilight, Pattinson was also an aspiring singer.) Despite their friendship, their music is quite different. Bradley favors a rock vibe, Long is more folk-inclined, and Foster owes something to Tom Waits.

THIS DOESN’T SUCK: Bradley was on his way to use the bathroom when Pattinson called to say their song was going to appear in Twilight. “I pissed myself,” he says. Really? “No.”

NEXT: The trio will reunite at July’s TwiCon festival in Dallas. “It’s going to be mental,” say Foster. Will Pattinson sit in? “I wouldn’t turn up there if I was him,” says Long. Foster hopes to record some songs with Pattinson soon; “It might be my stuff, or his stuff, or some stuff we wrote together.”

ON THEIR MUST LIST: Long loves rockers the Felice Brothers, while Bradley is a fan of Vancouver singer Shera Kelly. One of Foster’s favorite actors is Christopher Walken, whose forthcoming film $5 a Day features another of Foster’s songs.

I think it’s so cool that these guys are going to appear together at TwiCon. It would be so much fun to see them. I would agree that Rob should be wary of going anywhere close to a convention, but he seems to be really busy anyway. I hope Rob, Bobby, Sam and Marcus continue to make music together, and that Marcus and Rob really do record together. How funny was Sam about his reaction to being on the soundtrack!

Have you heard any music from Sam, Marcus or Bobby besides what is on the Twilgiht soundtrack? Will you seem them at TwiCon?

I’m not planning on attending the Twi-con in Dallas, but I think it would be so neat if Rob just showed up, without it being announced, to play with his friends. I feel bad he always has to for go doing & going to things he would really enjoy, just because fans can’t control themselves.

Well done to all the boys. I love “Let me sign” and “Never Think”
I do hope Rob will take some time to make more music, I know he’s very busy at the moment but, I would love to hear more of his music in the Future, that beautiful voice needs to be heard
He did start off being a musician, it’s a shame he can’t do things like open mike nights anymore.
Re: TwiCon festival in Dallas “I wouldn’t turn up there if I was him,” says Long. I think he is right, we need to think of Rob’s safety.

Gah! my comment disappeared, sorry if it duplicates

As I was saying, how I wish RP would show up at a Twicon! There’s one here in SF next year, but I would think all the fan mayhem he’s experiencing would keep him from going even to an organized event like that *sigh* He and his friends make a great music team, why isn’t Let Me Sign on the soundtrack? I got the deluxe edition too, it’s not on there. Still listen to Never Think.

So according to Facebook fan page of NM, the NM soundtrack is ready for pre-order on amazon for the oct 6 release date? Yay!

  • http://twilightersanonymous Marianne

Chelle: wow you can pre-order already? Have you heard a hint of anything that may be on it. I hope Hana Pestle’s “Need” made it on, it’s such a perfect song for this movie and she’s not a big name so it would be so great if her song made it.

  • Chelle

I asked about the NM soundtrack in the forum, they have no confirmation, might still change, I’m hoping! Not sure how the Twilight soundtrack came out last year, did it come before the movie? Anyway, that’s what it says according to the fan page of the NM movie on Facebook! I searched amazon for it, it says pre-order, but the artists are not released yet. The movie companion I know is available for pre-order too though. Definitely getting that one!!!

  • Jamie

Chelle, the soundtrack for the ‘Twilight’ movie was released on November 4th of last year, so yeah, a few weeks before the movie. The fan page for NM is unofficial and they know about as much as we do regarding the film, so while Amazon’s date may be correct, it may also be false. I guess we have to wait to hear from Stephenie or Summit!

  • Chelle

Jamie, thanks for the update. If they are sending false info, that is very very cruel! I guess it wouldn’t be too far off if the soundtrack gets released a month early, wishful thinking? I’m totally wearing out my Twilight soundtrack!

  • Amanda

I am a HUGE fan of Sam Bradley’s music! I am from MN, but I saw him play in Vancouver Island and tonight in Iowa. I hope I can see him play live again soon! He said his CD comes out in 3 weeks so check his myspace for updates!
