E! ONLINE: PATTINSON AND STEWART “STILL REALLY COOL”, SAYS ‘TWILIGHT’ DIRECTOR

Posted March 18th, 2009 By: Evie 6 Comments »

E! Online got a chance to talk with ‘Twilight’ director Catherine Hardwicke:

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke remembers the exact moment she decided to say no to New Moon.

“I was in Paris with Rob [Pattinson] and Kristen [Stewart] at dinner and talking to them and it was like, ‘Is this really the schedule? Would we really be starting ten and half weeks from now?’” Hardwicke told me yesterday in Santa Monica at the launch event for her new book, Twilight: Director’s Notebook. “Yes, we would, for various reasons which I respect, but I really thought it would be better for somebody else, who hadn’t just been working every day for two years without a day off.”

But now, as New Moon filming gets underway in Vancouver with director Chris Weitz, does Hardwicke have any regrets? Read on to find out…

“I’m sad,” Hardwicke admitted. “But I would not want to let those people down…I was offered a very nice amount of money, plenty more than I have ever seen or my family has seen. But I wanted to do it only if I was going to make it better than Twilight.”

Hardwicke says she keeps in touch with Pattinson and Stewart and is happy to report that they haven’t changed much since she first met them. “It hasn’t gone to their heads,” she said. “They’re still really cool. They’ve got their family and friends who keep them grounded. It’s so cool.”

Hardwicke also confirmed reports that she’s reuniting with Summit Entertainment (the studio behind the Twilight movie franchise) to direct the adaptation of If I Stay, a young adult novel that doesn’t even come out until next month.

And earlier this week, it was announced that she’s attached to Maximum Ride from James Patterson’s book series about a group of kids who are 98 percent human and two percent bird.

Yes, another series with a nice big fan base. Sound familiar?

“I love when people are that excited and passionate about it,” she said. “When you do an indie film you’re just hoping somebody will go see the movie and you’re trying to stir it up with some excitement. The fact that there already is excitement is great.”

(Thanks Lindsay)

I think it’s really cool that Catherine has stayed in touch with Rob and Kristen. I’m also glad to hear that Catherine is working with Summit again, that puts more rumors to rest.

What did you think of this interview with Catherine? Are you surprised to hear she’s still talking to Rob and Kristen?

I’m glad that CH’s career is going strong. I’m gonna buy If I Stay when it comes out and I’ve got CH’s book on order-can’t wait to get it.
While I kinda wish she were directing New Moon, I’m starting to think having a different experienced director each time would be better.
It’s nice that she keeps in touch with Rob and Kristen-that means they became friends and will stay that way.

I have been a huge James Patteson and Max fan for years. First two books are connected. And last 4 new 5th just out are connected to a different Max more PG think than the PG13 of the first two books. Looking forward to “your” movie Catherine. This how I was introduced to Twilight. A friend that read Twilight knew that I was into Max and thought I would enjoy Twilight and boy was she right. Read series many many times. Now reading at night to my husband and have 3 DVDs ordered to go with my life size Edward.

I now have even more respect for CH than I did before and that’s saying something. It takes a truly self-assured person to do what she did; she’s being true to “Twilight” and the very special work she created as well as to the cast and everyone involved in the creative process as well as to herself.
I have to say as well that I’m very pleased to hear her say that Rob and Kristen are still the same people they were before all the publicity; that’s kind of refreshing and it says a lot about them as individuals. It makes me feel like the admiration I have for both Rob and Kristen is well-placed; we see so much of “young hollywood” become over-indulgent and self-destructive it’s good to see that it hasn’t happened to them. I can’t wait to see CH’s next project; you know she’s going to bring the same integrity to those projects that she brought to Twilight.

    Ahhh Rob and Kristen…

Listen guys- I’m worried! I had a big part of me tugging towards Jacob towards the end of New Moon, but I was so elated when Edward returned I just wanted Bella to hurry up and let go of Jacob!

I can really tell New Moon is going to be a better movie than Twilight so I’m afraid… will Jacob and Bella’s relationship come off stonger than Edward and Bella’s on SCREEN???? :-S

Pattinson is a hollywood whore like any other greedy actor. I heard from a guy who´s working in New Moon´s production that he´s becoming an arrogant ass making thousand of demands, including big money, whilst Kristen is adorable and didn´t care about money at all. But he has the dumbest fanbase of all so he will keep making his filthy millions before the 15 minuts ends…
