ET ONLINE: MICHAEL SHEEN CONFIRMED

ET ONLINE: MICHAEL SHEEN CONFIRMED

Last week we brought you the story that Michael Sheen had been cast as Aro. Well today, Entertainment Tonight has confirmation on the casting of Michael Sheen:

Another British actor has been cast in the ‘Twilight’ sequel ‘New Moon’ and ET has the details!

‘New Moon’ director Chris Weitz confirms to ET that Michael Sheen — who recently played David Frost in ‘Frost/Nixon’ — has joined the ‘Twilight’ series.

British actor Jamie Campbell Bower, 20, revealed to BBC News last month that he too had been cast in the vampire sequel. “I doubt I’ll get the same sort of adulation as Robert [Pattinson] — but it’s always nice when people recognize you for your work,” he said of the opportunity.

Aside from ‘Frost/Nixon,’ Sheen is best known for his role as British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the movie ‘The Queen’ starring Helen Mirren. He also starred alongside Kate Beckinsale in another vampire/werewolf series, ‘Underworld.’

The Twilight Saga also adds:

Michael Sheen (Underworld, Frost/Nixon) has been confirmed as Aro, leader of the Volturi, for New Moon. The film’s director, Chris Weitz confirmed the casting: “Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.”

Well it sounds like Michael Sheen is a sure thing if Chris Weitz himself confirmed that one. It doesn’t get much more official than the director himself. I am finding it odd that there has been no offical confirmation on Jamie Campbell Bower at all. I’d think since that rumor came out first, they would have confirmed it first… odd!

Are you happy to have Michael Sheen join the cast? What do you think about Jamie Campbell Bower not being confirmed yet?

Michael Sheen’s a great actor; he’ll make an excellent Aro. As a bonus, he’s also done “Underworld” so he knows something about vampires-LOL. But seriously, finally, a member of the Volturi Brethren I can get excited about! I’m wondering what the deal is with Jamie Campbell Bower as well. Wonder if they’re thinking about him for the role of Alec-he’d be a great match-up with Dakota Fanning’s Jane. But I speculate. Guess I’ll just have to be patient and see what/who gets announced next…

Once more (with feeling!): c’mon Summit!! The long-suffering fans would love to see some sort of cast list. This announcing them once in a while is killing me…
    please?

Awesome! Im so excited to see what he will bring to the movie.

  3. Julia responded:

Big question about Michael, Jamie, AND Dakota — are they in for the sequels as well (not just NM)???? Recasting each movie looks SO unprofessional!

  4. Lee responded:

I did noticed that Jamie was not confirmed yet by either Chris or Summit. He might not even be cast as Cauis. To tell you the truth, I thought that actors who would play Aro, Cauis, and Marcus, would be around the same age group. I guess well just have to be patient and see. Maybe we might get an idea who will play the Volturi, when they start filming overseas.
