EW.COM: ‘BREAKING DAWN’- NOT SO FAST

Posted April 21st, 2009 By: Evie 24 Comments »

Entertainment Weekly has more to say about Breaking Dawn being made into a movie from Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter for the movie saga:

They haven’t even released a second movie yet, but already there’s talk of a fourth. TheWrap.com reported earlier today that Summit Entertainment was deep in the planning stages for Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in Stephenie Meyer’s hugely successful Twilight series. But not so fast, says Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who is still working on her script for Eclipse, the third in the teen vamp franchise (the second, New Moon, is currently shooting in Vancouver). “The most I’ve heard from Summit is ‘re-read it and start thinking about it,’” says Rosenberg, who is completing her show-running duties on the fourth season of the Showtime series Dexter. More telling, she hasn’t yet received one of the manifestos Meyer famously puts together before Rosenberg begins turning one of her books into a movie. Another source is also skeptical that Summit is far along in developing a fourth film. “As far as I know, Stephenie was still having meetings asking, ‘Can we really make this into a movie?’” The fourth book’s racy sex and explicit birth scenes make it less pre-teen friendly then the three earlier, more chaste romance novels. Summit, for its part, has no comment on the current status of Breaking Dawn.

SOURCE

(Thanks Ana!)

This to me sounds more likely. I’d say since Melissa Rosenberg writes the movie scripts she’s a pretty reliable source on the current status of Breaking Dawn as a movie.

What do you think? Do you think they are just discussing Breaking Dawn or do you think they are further along in their planning?

all talk. i do hope that they do make a movie of it though. it is the best one and is the best part of Edward and bella’s love.

  • Lady Damon

I think they shoudl make it a movie, however, they will deff. have to change the rating on it. it’s the only way they can make it properly like the book is. breaking dawn is my fave book because everyone is together! wolves and vamps alike! and i love the interaction between rosalie and jacob lol.
yes it’ll be racy, but think about almost 3 years down the line the tweeny girls will be older. and let their parents decide what they see in movies. don’t make the adult readers suffer because of something like that.
    ONWARD BREAKING DAWN!!!!!
    Lady D

  • BrandyLynn

“Racy sex”?? We pretty much get a fade to black in the book and are left to use our imaginations. I think that Breaking Dawn can be made into a movie, they just have to be smart about it. So what if they have to up the rating from PG-13 to Rated R..big deal! With all the new technology and CGI capability that is out there, there is no reason that this cannot be done. The fans are so loyal to this saga that it would be a true dissapointment not to see it on screen and finished the way it it supposed to…it just has to.

  • *NumeroUno*

    What racy sex scene?
    Pur-leez!
There is no sex scene in breaking dawn.
    It just fades to black.

  • oretha

it can’t be that bad. its married couple. maybe we will spend a little more time with the wedding prep. there are ways to shoot around the more graphic materials. Cut aways etc…

  • twilightmomma74

I agree. Most of the Audience will be older by that time. You can’t not tell how it all ends. I mean, that is why we all read 4 books in our own personal record breaking time. I think that if i was doing the movies, I would combined Eclipse and Breaking Dawn togather. Make it a 3 hour movie that goes out with a bang……

  • Lyllyanna

ARE U KIDDING ME! SEX?! Everyone does it and in the last book Bella is married! It sends a positive message to young women. Wait until yout married like Bella and Edward. Oh sweet love, peeps sure are really really REALLY stupid for thinking it and not making it into a movie! Butt heads

  • Phoenix

They have to make them all! It just wouldn’t be right lol. I agree with Lady D; up the rating and let the parents decide. I always thought the ages on these books were a little off to begin with. They don’t seem like early-teen books to me. Besides, PG-13 movies can have breasts in them and I doubt Kristen will be showing hers anytime soon lol… they’ll make it tactful, so yes, onward breaking dawn! :D :D

  • CarlisleRocks

There is NO racy sex in Breaking Dawn! It is all left to the imagination of the reader and could easily be handled in a PG-13 movie. As far as the birth scene, that could be handled just as easily. There is no need for blood or gore, it could be skimmed over and left to the viewer’s imagination. There are plenty of ways to handle either scene with grace. I agree with Lyllyanna, Bella is a married woman, which does send a positive message to girls and twilightmoma74 is right, make it a 3 hours movie, do the book justice and go out with a BANG!

  • twilightgirl89

i think that it would not do the book any good to combined eclipse and breaking dawn, breaking dawn is a whole nother chapter of bella and edward entirely, it would be wrong to not even turn the book into a movie if they r really trying to stay true to the twilight saga they would make the whole saga seperately, if they decide to not make breaking dawn then it really wouldnt be the twilight saga now would it, they can just work around the sex parts like steph did in the book, and as for the birth parts, birth is apart of life. i for one think alot of fans would be mad if they didnt make the the saga the right way, i agree that most of these young teens are going to be older when breaking dawn even comes out, so y not, y not make the saga they way it should be

  • shea

to me the saga always seemed to be for teens up.
not necciarly like pre-teens and the just-turned teens.
but the middle/older teens and up.
and they can make it into a movie! have hope

  • Sharon

Yes they should go ahead and make a movie of Breaking Dawn. Its not just the young who have fallen in love with this Saga the older ones have also.It should be left up to the parents. With the way Breaking Dawn ended Stephenie can take this series even further and I hope she does. Eclipse and Breaking Dawn are my favorite.

  • jenb

I really want to have BD made into a movie. (It would stink to have it end w/Eclipse. Bella and Edward engaged and then Jacob runs off, not a good ending to a movie franchise if you ask me.) If they do it right I think it could be an awesome movie. I would wait a few years for it if that’s what it took. The sex scenes were nothing in the book. I’ve seen worse on television! And I think the whole birth scene can be done so it’s not gory it’s from Jacob’s perspective and they could maybe have just noises in the background or something and not really have to show it. I’m sure they could do it! I want the wedding and Bella being changed and the happily ever after! I’d be more concerned with how they would do Renesmee and making her just as adorable as in the book and life like but growing. And then they couldn’t fit it all in 1 movie, it would need to be 2. I think it could be done.

  • twilightfan14

I do think they are just in the discussing part of it right now. New Moon is filming, the Eclispe screenplay isn’t even done yet, everybody has a lot on their plate right now. I believe the Breaking Dawn movie will happen-everybody wants to “see” the wedding, the honeymoon, how happy Bella and Edward are, etc. We have to see the birth and Bella being turned-that really is the whole point of all this. Bella and Edward together forever. We have to see the happy ending.
I don’t really care if it’s R or PG 13, but seriously, this is a great message for teens or anybody else for that matter-Wait til you are married and you actually love the person you are with. Most of the sex scenes in the book were “fade to black” moments anyway. On the honeymoon, you show just what was described in the book-feathers from the ripped pillows, Bella bruised but happy and not even noticing the bruises because it’s no big deal to her, ect. And Bella as a vampire is just so cool-Breaking Dawn is my fave book and I can’t wait to see the movie-but I will til 2011. I want it done right-no rushing. I still think 1 movie is enough for BD but if everybody involved wants to do 2-I’m all for it.

  • Ashley

We all know that if Summit or Stephenie Meyers released any kind of statement saying that they weren’t going forward with a plan to make Breaking Dawn into a movie there would be hell to pay. All of us Twilighters fell in love with this story and with all stories there is an ending. You simply cannot start this story and cut it off without ending it the way it is supposed to be. It’s just not fair. Why even watch any of the movies if they don’t tell it the way it’s supposed to be. Being a LOVER myself I would be heart broken if I found out that we have been following Bella and Edward’s love story all along and will never see the day that they get married, become one, have a family, become a life together, etc, etc, we all know what happens. My point being you just CAN’T NOT MAKE BREAKING DAWN! As far as sex scenes and CGI regarding Renesmee, it’s not impossible. I think they should make it as tasteful as possible without sacrificing a little bit of “it” yes.. we want to see a little! Admit it! Robert naked in the ocean with his clothes hanging over the bend in the palm tree and all that jazz.. yes, I said it! We want it ALL!

  • Alejandra

I say they have to finish what they started. And about the “sex scenes” which there isn’t really any, and the birth scene, they’ll find a way. If it’s rated R, it is not going to matter because us twilight fans WILL FIND A WAY to watch it. In other words the rating won’t really stop anyone, I think.

  • http://www.myspace.com/habibahmed Habiba

I’m all for them making it into a film. naturally the rating will change, besides Twilighters know what to expect. I’m only worried about dealing with Reneesme’s birth-growth.. how many baby girls will they be able to find to cover all her growth phases? aside from that please do go ahead. I want to see what it would look like when things get.. errrr… interesting.

  • Becky

I agree with Sharon! I’m 30 yrs old and I Love the Twilight Saga!! Its not just for teenagers. They should make Breaking Dawn into a movie, it wouldn’t be right if they didn’t. And no one will be getting the wrong messege b/c Edward and Bella are married.

  • tracy

i hope they decide to make breaking dawn. we get more jacob in the middle… then i really want to see what they do for the part where edward can read bella’s mind for a minute.
    it’ll be so cute!

  • http://twilightersanonymous.com/ew-com-breaking-dawn-movie-not-so-fast.html Amber

i agree with the first comment. i think that we shouldnt punish our adult readers just because we want the move to be rated for teens by the time this is made into a movie the only ppl who would rely care is the ppl who are reading it now not to be harsh or any thing but the twilight generation is now and by the time this is made into a movie the teens and young adults are going to be of legal age and be able to see without the permission of a parent. this movie needs to have the racy sex and the gorey birth scene because thats all part of breaking dawn we definetly need the birth scene because that is one of the touching parts of the book when jacob and edward are trying to save her and its one of the most touching moments when they are trying to save the one they love. so boo on summit for thinking they werent going to make it. they need to make this movie it is essentail to the twilight saga.

  • http://twilightersanonymos.com Mrs.EdwardCullen17

They should make Breaking dawn into a movie! Really, what sex scenes r actually in the book? Steph fades out and we have to use our imaginations. And for the birth scene its not really that gross! I mean birth is a part of life and some babies actually are cut out of their mom. If you have an open imagination and you understand vampires the birth secene isnt gross!! I think its a beautiful natural way of life for hybrids. Plus, by the time BD comes out we will all be older. And if you guys want to be true to the twilight saga you’ll make BD into a movie cuz if theres only 3 movies its not really the twilight saga. And eclipse leaves you dangling. Without BD you dont get your fix of jacob (eww, not like i need it), and you miss out on Bella and Edwards like hooole love life. And theres more of Jasper in BD. Plus twilighters already know what to expect, and why ruin it for the adults by not making it a film? ALL 4 MAKING BREAKING DAWN INTO A FILM!!!

  • amanda

they have to make breaking dawn into a movie. if wraps everything up. there was no “racy” sex in the book anyway. they are so worried about pre-teens, im sure most of them watches worse stuff on tv. as for the birth scene it wasnt that bad.

  • Annie

If you ask me, if they have to butcher Breaking Dawn into some Strawberry Shortcake version, it won’t be Breaking Dawn anyway.
Sure, it would be great to have one, but I would hate to see the series ruined by one rotten apple in the basket.

  • Mrs.Cullen

I AGREE WITH MRS.EDWARDCULLEN17 BECAUSE SHE’S RIGHT ALL 4 TWILIGHT BOOKS NEED 2 BE MADE IN 2 A MOVIE OR WE TWILIGHTERS MIGHT HAVE A BREAK DOWN IF IT’S BREAKING DAWN IS NOT FILMED IM WITH THE TWILIGHTERS ON THIS 1 PEOPLE!!!!! I SPEAK 4 THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE TWILIGHT!!!!!
