ADDICTEDTOEDWARD: TWILIGHT TWIBBLE WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE

Posted June 1st, 2009 By: 3 Comments »

What is a Twibble you may ask…..it’s a Twilight Drabble – or what we like to call, Twibble!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with drabbles, a drabble is a work of fiction that is extremely short, less than 1000 words long. Drabble contests allow an author to test their skills at expressing interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

In our Twibble Contest, you will be given a quote from the Twilight Saga and you must use that quote somewhere in your twibble. For our purposes, a twibble can be no longer than 250 words and must be related to the Twilight universe.

Each month’s winner will be given some TA bookmarks.

AddictedToEdward, winner for June!

“I didn’t realize vampires marked occasions such as anniversaries.” Bella sounded embarrassed as I fastened my mother’s pocket watch around her neck. I’d hidden it in my room in the main house. “I’m sorry; I don’t have a gift for you, Edward.”

I kissed her neck. “That doesn’t matter. Let’s go home and celebrate, alone. Rose can watch Nessie.”

We raced to the cottage. With Bella’s newborn strength spent, I won easily. Immediately upon opening the door, I smelled something different. Something old, yet somehow familiar too. The memory nagged at me, faded and dim – a human memory.

Then I saw it. My mouth opened, but no sound came out. I walked across the room and stroked the dark wood ever so gently. I sat on the bench as my fingers danced over the black and white keys. I turned to see Bella watching me, smiling widely.

“Bella, how …when …This is a 1900 Steinway Model K, the very piano my mother owned when I was a child. How did you know?”

“Carlisle. He saw the piano when you went back to your home to get your mother’s jewelry. He remembered it in perfect detail and described it to me. I did some research on the Internet.” She shrugged, as if this wasn’t an amazing feat.

She stood behind me, her hands on my shoulders, as I began to play her lullaby. “I don’t ever want to hear any more grief about my acting abilities, got it?”

A little about AddictedToEdward

My name is Christie, and I’m a 30-something Twilight Mom. I am currently a stay-at-home-mom although I do have degrees in Information Technology and Computer Science. I used to be fairly normal. Then I read Twilight and fell completely in love with the story, and especially, Edward Cullen. I became obsessed very quickly and my life practically revolves itself around Twilight these days – catching up on the latest news, checking out photos of New Moon, thinking about my next fan fiction, creating pages for my Twilight scrapbook, listening to the Twilight soundtrack, you get the picture. My husband has read the books (and seen the movie) and I enjoy having discussions with him about different facets of the saga. My Twilight obsession has rubbed off on my son as well – he knows quite a bit about Twilight for a 4-yr-old and even has a favorite character (Emmett). Besides Twilight, I have several hobbies that keep me busy in my free time: scrap booking, quilting, needlework, knitting, and most recently, writing.

My interest in writing fiction started in elementary school, with the encouragement of one of my teachers. In high school, I wrote some fan fiction based on characters of my favorite author at the time, V.C. Andrews. I even joined an online writer’s club – back in the day when you had to sign up with a service such as Prodigy or Compuserve to access the internet, and you could only communicate with people on the same service as you. Somewhere between early high school and college, I stopped writing, to focus on computers and my future career. (Being a stay-at-home-mom was not part of the original plan but I wouldn’t change it for anything.)

In January 2009, I started writing again, inspired by the fan fiction challenges at Novel Novice Twilight (http://www.twilightnovelnovice.com/ ). Once started, I couldn’t stop! I love playing with the characters, dissecting what they might do in a certain situation, and trying to mimic the ‘tone’ of each individual character. I’m very left-brained and so my writing is methodical and slow and I research more details than probably necessary. I have really enjoyed the Twibble contests because they challenge me not only to limit the story to 250 words but also to finish in a short deadline. Someday I hope to be a published author, but for now, I’m happy to play with the fan fiction. All of my fan fiction is posted on my blog (http://blog.mooberrydreams.com/search/label/twilight%20fan%20fiction ). There’s not much yet, because I’m such a slow writer, but I have three more pieces in the works.

Twilighters Anonymous is the website I go to first for all things Twilight. I didn’t read Twilight until September 2008, and of course by then the hype for the movie was BIG. I became obsessed with checking IMDB’s news feed for Twilight news, until I finally realized most articles came from one site called Twilighters Anonymous. I decided to go right to the source and I haven’t left yet! I love how TA has grown over the last few months and I can’t wait to see what you guys have in store for us next!

Congrats AddictedToEdward.

AHELM – TWILIGHT TWIBBLE WINNER FOR THE MONTH OF MAY

What is a Twibble you may ask…..it’s a Twilight Drabble – or what we like to call, Twibble!

The winner for the month of may is……AHelm:

Bella and Edward sat on the couch in her living room watching Romeo and Juliet again. The weather was freezing and wet, and Edward could hear the faint brushing of snow skimming its way down the roof of the house. Uneven steps and heavy breathing overtook this quiet. Charlie came in from the porch, shivering, and hung his holster and coat near the door.

“Good evening, Charlie,” Edward said.

“Hi Dad,” Bella mumbled as she held tight to Edward’s icy hand.

“Hey,” Charlie responded gruffly as he cast a suspicious look at Edward. “You know, it’s starting to snow pretty bad out there,” he said.

“Is it?” Edward asked, feigning ignorance.

Charlie nodded and then an unhappy look made its way onto his face. “You’ll have to stay here. I’ll pull some blankets and a pillow out.” Edward thanked him and opened his phone to call his parents.

Once the call was complete, Bella announced that she and Edward were going to study in her room. Charlie watched silently as they climbed the stairs and then listened as her door closed.

Inside Bella’s bedroom, Edward smirked. “It’s too bad about the snow, isn’t it?” A quiet chuckle fell from his lips. “Carlisle will be so worried. But we can’t have me out in the cold now, can we?”

Bella stepped toward him, a playful smile splayed on her mouth and smiled. “Of course not,” she said, and planted a kiss on his cool, firm lips.

Congrats AHelm!

TA’S MAY FEATURED FAN FICTION – MY LOST YOUTH BY MISSPIERCE

Posted May 1st, 2009 By: No Comments »

Each month we choose a fan fiction from our forum to be the featured fan fiction. For the month of May, MissPierce’s “My Lost Youth” is the winner.

Title: My Lost Youth
Author: “Edward A. Masen” (Miss Pierce)
Rating: PG-13 for violent imagery
Characters: Edward, Carlisle, Esme
Summary: My Lost Youth is Edward’s non-chronological retrospective about the years of 1911-1934, exploring his struggles as he transitions from reluctant newborn vampire to Carlisle and Esme’s son. He offers insight on Carlisle and Esme’s journeys and his own, including the dark time he rebelled against Carlisle’s way of life and left, setting out a path that would always haunt him afterward.

Isle Esme, August, 1932

The sea floor rose beneath me; living towers of the intricate reef gave way to rippled, golden sand shimmering in the sunlight that filtered through the warm ocean waters. It looked like our long swim, which had started with a plunge into the waters off Rio, might be coming to an end.

All I knew is that Carlisle wanted to show me something he was giving to Esme for their anniversary- and he was keeping his thoughts about what it was to himself successfully, which was a little disgruntling. He was getting better and better at disguising his thoughts when he wanted to.

The streaming wake of Carlisle’s torpedo form disappeared as his feet touched the sand, kicking up a billowing cloud of white, taking off onto land, and I burst through it, right behind.

Emerging into the languid, sweet tropical air, the scent of a new place, was exhilaration itself, a relief from being underwater. The only thing that bothered me about swimming- being unable to smell anything. It didn’t hurt to take water into my lungs, but it was disgusting, to say nothing of the foul process of choking it out later. I’d tried it once, and that was enough for me.

The sand was silk under our feet as we raced along an island shore. He was apparently sure we were alone there, unconcerned about our bodies openly refracting the brilliant sunlight, and I didn’t smell any humans. Best of all, this place was blessedly free of their tedious, muddling thoughts.

Carlisle flashed a grin over his shoulder and cut to the left, heading for a patch of jungle in the center of the island. I caught up and overtook him a half second later, slicing through the vegetation, chuckling as five rainbow-feathered birds flew away in fright after I’d already dashed under their roosts. I was always faster than Carlisle, something I never grew out of from my newborn days. Because of that, everyone always assumed I was stronger than he was as well. Only the two of us knew better. He could thrash me anytime he felt like it.

Not forgetting that he was the one who was showing the way to this mystery item, I let him take the lead again, just in time for the jungle’s end as we emerged on the other side of the island. The place was tiny. We’d crossed the entire thing in a few seconds.

Carlisle abruptly slowed to a walk, approaching the waves rolling onto the beach. He turned to me and took a few giddy steps back, holding out his arms in presentation.

“Well? Think she’ll like it?”

“A vacation here?” I shrugged. “Sure.”

“No,” he grinned. “The island itself.”

“An island,” I said flatly. “You’re giving her an island?”

“Welcome to Isle Esme! I signed the papers last month.”

“She’d better like it.” I chuckled, incredulous.

Their tenth anniversary was two weeks away, and she’d already told me what she was giving to him, too. It wasn’t anything like an island, but I knew he’d be thrilled with it.

Carlisle wandered to the edge of the surf and paused there with the stillness unique to our kind. His hair and swim trunks, like mine, were already dry from the run, the only parts of him that the warm breeze could move. I joined him– his thoughts were a soft jumble of longings and anticipation.

“I want to surprise her, to bring her here that night,” he murmured.

“She’ll love it, Carlisle.”

His smile took on a dreamy aspect; he was imagining her reaction, what their anniversary night would bring. I had to leave his thoughts in a hurry, to focus on listening to the corporeal sea in the absence of other minds. Carlisle really did try to be discreet around me, but it got away from him every once in a while.

A few moments later he glanced at me apologetically.

“Sorry about that.”

I just smirked, and resumed enjoying the place.

“It really is beautiful here, Carlisle.”

Peaceful, he thought, and turned his admiration to the sunset about to occur, the wind picking up speed, the roar of the waves.

“Why am I here?” I asked eventually. “You could have just told me.”

I wanted you to see this place, Edward. To know where it was, if you ever need it…

Information about the author:

Name: Alexandra Pierce

How did you start writing fan fiction? I started writing Twilight fan fiction right after I discovered and read the series in December. I’d devoured the books, all the extras and the Midnight Sun excerpt from SM’s site, a bunch of fan fiction – everything in just over a week. Right after I started participating in the Twilight Universe online, I decided to try my hand at a one-shot about Edward and Bella’s first night on Isle Esme. I chose Edward’s POV and started when he was waiting for Bella out in the surf, but it didn’t go very well, I’m afraid. I didn’t count on what a busy brain that boy has. Many pages later, poor Bella was still stuck in the cottage while Edward was busy moodily contemplating everything from hurricanes to Steinbeck, so I gave up. But at least it gave me an idea of how comfortable I was with Edward’s POV.

My next project was a film script for New Moon, which was my favorite of the books. Several scenes have been posted exclusively on TA. I finished, but decided for a number of reasons not to publish the rest anywhere online.

When I’d get stuck on an aspect of New Moon, I’d take breaks by working on a non-chronological Edward-POV retrospective about the Cullens from 1911-1934, and it became My Lost Youth. Without a doubt, it’s the one that’s really hooked me- and, evidently, a few others, too!

The whole urge to write fan fiction was really new to me, actually. I’d written before, but not fanfic.

How did you find TA? I discovered TA via IMDb. I was looking at IMDb’s news feed on something Twilight-related (I don’t remember what specifically), and one of the news items was attributed/linked to TA. I clicked on the link, and the rest is history! TA is my absolute favorite of all the Twilight sites. It’s got a ton to offer, but what really impressed me the most were the forums. They’re the most friendly and diverse in Twilightdom, hands down.

TA’s APRIL FEATURED FAN FICTION – THE WEDDING BY EIRELAV

Posted April 1st, 2009 By: 16 Comments »

Welcome to our first featured fan fiction. It’s a new TA monthly feature – We will be choosing a fan fiction (from our forum) to be the featured fan fiction each month. Congrats to Val’s “The Wedding” for being the winner in April.

Title: The Wedding
Author: Eirelav
Main Characters: Jacob Black, Renesmee Cullen
Rating: PG13

Summary: Jacob Black is getting married. As he’s waiting anxiously for his bride to join him, he remembers some of the key moments of their relationship. Join Jacob as he reminisces about the good times and the bad: when Nessie was first born, how he watched over her as a little girl, what they went through when she matured and suddenly everything changed, falling in love, jealousy, misunderstandings, dealing with the reactions of family and friends, asking the big question, and so much more.

Chapter 1 The First Day of the Rest of My Life

I walked into the huge room and I was immediately amazed, not only by the lovely music, the thousands of flowers and hundreds of candles everywhere, but also by the number of people sitting in row after row of chairs. I looked out into the crowd and saw so many that had influenced my life and help me become the man that I am: my family, my pack, my future in-laws, their extended “family”, and my friends. People from La Push that I had known my entire life, many of whom were wolves, looked a little uncomfortable to be in the same room with so many vampires. It made me laugh to think about what must have been going through some of their minds.

My dad was beaming at me with such a look of pride on his face. I knew that he was so thrilled for me and relieved that I was finally getting exactly what I wanted. My sisters, their husbands and kids were there with him. It was good to have the whole family together again.

The Cullens were there with Charlie Swan and Sue Clearwater. Esme and Carlisle, strangely enough, were almost like parents to me. They taught me so much about life and love, and they treated me like I was part of their family. Such kind and caring creatures, I couldn’t help but love them.

Seth, my Best Man, stood to my left. Quil and Embry were next to him. My brothers looked a little fidgety in their tuxes. They seemed to be uncomfortable in the restrictive clothes and shoes. Quil and Embry also looked a little freaked out to be in such close proximity to so many vampires.

My eyes were drawn down the aisle and I saw Bella. She was absolutely stunning in her floor length gown with her hair pulled up. She glided effortlessly toward me, watching my face the whole way. I smiled at her, the way Bella always made me smile. As she got closer, I could see her mouth the words “I love you.” I winked at her and mouthed “I love you, too.” She gracefully slid into her seat in the front row next to Esme.

The music changed and the bridesmaids started to come up the aisle. Leah was first. It was still amazing to me that the annoying girl who was so irritating had become such a good friend. Alice followed her up the aisle, dancing the whole way. The Maid of Honor, Rosalie, was next. She looked drop-dead gorgeous, as always. Emmett, her husband, let out a low whistle and she beamed at him. I laughed a little bit as I thought of some of my favorite blonde jokes. She smiled sweetly at me and said in a voice so low only a certain few could hear, “Laugh it up, mutt!”

The music changed again and my attention was drawn back down the aisle. I could see my future father-in-law there. He was my enemy for so long, my rival for Bella’s affections. Over the past few years we had become such good friends, and now we were about to be family. Edward was looking toward a door, waiting for her to come out.

Before she came into the room, I could feel her presence. The pull that I had always felt with her was even stronger now than it had ever been. She was my whole world – my reason for living, so much more than the love of my life. I had to remind myself to breathe when I saw her. She was more than beautiful – she was everything. My Renesmee. Time seemed to stand still as the memories came flooding back to me…
