FILM.COM: NEW INTERVIEWS WITH ASHLEY GREENE AND NIKKI REED
Film.com has posted some new, and very interesting, interviews with Ashley Greene (Alice) and Nikki Reed (Rosalie).
Here is an excerpt from Ashley’s interview:

The first thing I noticed when I walked in the room was Ashley Greene’s copy of Breaking Dawn on the table. We started there …Laremy Legel: Are you reading that now?
Ashley Greene: I am. It’s different, but I still think it’s interesting. It’s a little less of the love story.
LL: I think Alice is the best character to play in Twilight because you don’t have the weight and responsibility of the love angle, but you do have a cool power. Do you feel that way too?
AG: That’s what people keep saying! “Your character is the coolest!” And I’m always like, “Well, I think so, because I’m playing it” [laughs]. But she already has her soul mate, so she’s out of the game. And this is my breakout role, and it’s such a great role to breakout with. She’s this little cute quirky character that comes from a dark background. She’s a really loving, caring, optimistic vampire. Which is so bizarre. She’s never eaten a person, she’s just really good-hearted. Loves her family, can see the future, really quick and very elegant. So I’m thrilled to be playing her.
LL: One of the scenes that was different in the book is the way Bella escapes from you at the hotel. Did you ever think, “Oh, Alice totally would have known about this!”
AG: What we kind of had to come down to was just that we [Jasper and Alice] were so preoccupied with other things. With other visions. I know that Bella was trying to act at the last minute so Alice didn’t know. That’s one of the things that’s tough about turning a book into a film. You don’t have to explain as much in the book. But I think she was so preoccupied with what James is doing, trying to predict his every move. So I don’t think she was really concentrating on Bella.
That’s another character choice we made. Unless it’s something huge and epic Alice has learned how to control certain things. Otherwise she would have these visions all the time. I think that was the other thing we kind of threw into it.
And here is a portion of Nikki’s interview:

As I walked into the room to interview Nikki Reed she mentioned that Michael Angarano, boyfriend of Kristen Stewart, had just left.Laremy Legel: Was that the beau of Ms. Kristen Stewart?
Nikki Reed: Yeah, but we’re trying to start a rumor that Michael is in-between the two of us.
LL: I’m sure I can get that rumor going. Done and done. But that actually brings me to my first question, if you are Kristen are such good friends, how did you find the hostility that Rosalie has for Bella?
NR: I think we just do it with a grain of salt. We laugh at the end of every scene. Now that her and I are like really close it’s going to be really funny to do two more. How am I not going to break character? But in a lot of ways as serious as Twilight become, we did do a lot of homework just trying to understand the characters. I did want to play something other than the bitchy girl. I wanted Rosalie to have a reason for acting the way she did.
Thankfully it’s in the book, just not in the first book. So I got a chance to understand Rosalie. So as serious as we took the process it wasn’t a difficult set to be on. It was young, and fun, and we laughed a lot. It’s going to be really fun when we go back and I’m doing the scenes with Kristen where I hate her.
LL: I feel like in the first book especially both you and Rob’s characters are held up to be the absolute embodiment of beauty. How do they pitch that to you? I mean, does someone just come up and say “Well, you need to be the most beautiful person EVER.”?
NR: I always feel like I answer this the wrong way. I’m not that, I don’t know if anybody is. I can tell you people I find beautiful. I don’t know really how to deal with it. It was really hard for me in the beginning. Really tempting to read blogs and the mail from the Twilight kids. Now I am Rosalie but there was a time when I was still Nikki and people still had the option of criticizing that. Just because I don’t look like her in my other films doesn’t mean I don’t get it.
There’s a lot of pressure. It’s very odd. When it comes to beauty, when it comes to perfection … nobody is ever going to be the definitive, beautiful queen. It’s an impossible task. That was the most difficult part for me when I was approaching the part. You have to let that go. There’s a lot of little girls out there happy to say Rob is the most beautiful guy in the world, but there aren’t 650 boys out there behind the ropes screaming for me.

I loved both these interviews. I know the whole cast had a difficult time getting acceptance from Twilighters, but I think the majority of people are convinced that they fit their parts now. One thing that surprised me was in the Ashley Greene interview, they discuss how she had to deal with the least amount of negativity towards her casting as Alice. I never really thought about it but I suppose that is true.
What did you think about the interviews? And what do you think about the girls in general: were they the right people for the part?

I love Ashley Greene! My friends and I got to meet her yesterday…and she was so sweet. She came up to us and started having a converstation with us… she acted like she had known us forever. Plus she is so beautiful. Like it was shocking. Her personallity is actually really like alice’s.. i think shes perfect for Alice.
I loved the movie. I thought everyone did a fabulous job. I’m excited and can’t wait to see the next film. I’m a photographer in dallas, tx. One of these days, I hope to be working on a set like Twilight.
I thought both of them were great! It kind of annoys me when people say that Nikki Reed isn’t beautiful enough. How can people say that?! In public?! Beauty is such a subjective thing, and you’re never going to find someone who is “perfectly beautiful,” anyway. And then, even if you did, you’d have to consider acting ability. And she has that. She was great.
Nikki I would be shouting for you I think that your the perfect person for Rose. Even know I’m a girl I really would be shouting for you….
