HOLLYWIRE: MICHAEL COPON SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The people at Hollywire.com happen to run into Michael Copon, a possible candidate for the role of Jacob Black, and his publicist out in Hollywood the other night, and of course asked him about the rumors going around. He talks a bit about the drama with his supposed Facebook page, how excited he is for the possibility he’ll play Jacob, and more.

Well, it’s nice to know that he didn’t put that on his Facebook page, because I thought that was a bit cocky when I first heard about it. I also think it was nice of him to welcome those girls in who bombarded their way into his dinner.

I thought it was smarmy of the interviewer to interrupt his meal.

Didn’t change my opinion of him though. Sounds like he’s back peddling on the arrogant post about being Jacob Black on his facebook. Don’t believe him and don’t like his attitude.

His agent told MTV in Larry Carroll’s article that was his facebook page and that he manages it himself. He’s caught in a snake pit!

Don’t be fooled, it was Copon who posted that stuff on his own facebook. He’s still using the same account, and only deleted it when stuff got out of hand.

He also promoted himself on his own IMDB page. I’m sure you can figure out his post. His best friend is Steve Nguyen, Presstige PR.

Those girls in the video know Copon, they’re ‘journalist’ who have hung out with him in the past (they were at his birthday party this year). That’s a reason he was so warm and receptive to them.

Don’t think Copon is innocent in this PR campaign he’s doing. It all started with him.

Total Set-up, if you ask me. No matter what anyone says i still don’t like him, if hes the one to replace Taylor.. he won’t get any good reports form me. Taylor Stays and thats FINAL!

I am really trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then I saw this interview http://www.j-14.com/2008/12/j-14-exclusive-qa-with-michael.html#more “Cliff Notes?” “Twilight 2?” and then the way he down plays Taylor was almost like telling someone “No offense to you, I am sure you are a nice guy, but I think you are an idiot.” Ouch, is all I could say.

I’ve never liked him. If he ends up playing Jacob that’s fine because I was afraid I would warm up to Taylor and I’m all Team Edward. But I really hope they keep Taylor!

@amy s… i saw that interview and i totally agree with you. there aren’t even any twilight cliffs notes. i checked.
and the twilight 2 things was just too much.
i pretty much don’t believe anything he says. if he doesn’t have time to sit down and read the books, he doesn’t deserve the part. i mean, i’m team edward all the way, but the character of jacob still deserves an actor who cares about the part and is willing to dig deeper into his feelings and motives. taylor has impressed me so far and i am really looking forward to seeing what he does with a darker jacob. copon= definite famewhore.

There is only one “Jacob Black” and Taylor Lautnet is it. No one could do it better then him. That being said this Copen guy needs to find another movie that will suit his 6’2 almost 200lbs ego.

Actually the worst part of this video and the other interview with Copon is that many Taylor Lautner fans are just going to bash him even more and just make Twilight fans look bad, like we’re all crazy obsessive and read into every word and every action of Copon’s.

I’m with Jane’s comment above, I hope they look at other actors than just Lautner and Copon.

But what is interesting if they DO NOT end up picking Lautner, I think it will show that he doesn’t have the acting chops for the part. Because they won’t fire him for any other reason than that since so many fangirls love him.

So I think if they don’t hire him we should just support the guy that they do.

Plus all the people that say they are going to boycott the movie if Taylor’s not in it…that’s fine, actually really fine. It will make the movie experience probably more enjoyable for everyone else. Especially people that are fans of the Twilight series.

Im liking this guy less and less. I was all for changing Jacob for physical and muscle mass purposes but this guys a douche. Sorry….Taylor bulk up, babe. As Rob Schnider says in Waterboy, You can do it man!!!!

I hope Summit is not idiot enough to hire this guy, really…..If they really want to replace taylor (WHICH IS A BAD, BAD IDEA) they should hire someone who does not say this kind of BS, really!!!

This is total backpedaling. I love how celebrities can release a statement and if the statement is well-received they claim someone did that without there permission.
I am pure Team Edward, as our many of my friends, which makes New Moon and Eclipse almost insufferable. Yet, Taylor Lautner worked his magic over us in Twilight. If he can do that with such small roles, I would love to see him in the rest, He may be the only way my friends and I will ever be able to understand Bella or have any compassion for the situation.
Taylor Lautner you are keeping me from being a Jacob-hater.
If Micheal Copon is casted though, my Jacob-hating will go through the roof.

None of the actors had read the books before they were cast. Rob said he hadn’t even heard of it. People need to calm down, if the agent represents Taylor and Micheal and he feels that one is better for the job than other, well that is what he gets paid to do. Everyone needs to just calm down and let them get all the cast and script ready.

I’m really loathing this Copon guy. Everything about him seems so fake. And I DESPISE how he keeps calling New Moon “Twilight 2″. Idiot. ::rolls eyes and glowers:: If I could spit venom in his direction, I surely would.

This does seem staged but who in the public eye doesn’t want to get themselves some positive PR? Can you blame him for trying after the backlash? Even if he doesn’t get this part, he wants to get work. You are judging this guy for a few missteps that maybe aren’t his fault.

I would feel bad for Taylor if he is replaced but I agree that Taylor may not be the ideal fit for the older, larger version of Jacob. I know it’s hard to have trust in the process and the fans want to be heard but people need to calm down. Do you want them to keep a fan favorite that isn’t the right/best choice? Isn’t that kind of wrong for the movie -Summit and Weitz not living up to their responsibility?

Ok this whole situation reminds me so much of 12 months ago when we all heard that Rob was going to be playing Edward. I mean if Copon is cast as Jacob, lets give him a chance to prove himself. I love Taylor and I just hope that whoever plays Jacob in New Moon will do an awesome job, whether its Copon, Taylor or someone else. Let’s just give them a chance to prove themselves instead of already writing them off and starting strikes (?)! Give the man a chance!
I think everyone had their doubts about the Twilight cast but then we saw the movie and that they could play those characters! Let’s do the same thing for New Moon!

Someone else on another page said that they know for a fact that was his real Facebook page. Regardless, this was SOOOO STAGED!!!! What respectable reporter would walk up to an actor at dinner, taping with their video camera, and what actor would be just fine with that???? PUH-LEEZE! I mean when I saww Copon i was ecstatic to know that if they decided to take Taylor out the movie they had such a close look-a-like lined up to take over. Like i said yes, i love Taylor, but i want the movie to stay true to the books and honestly i think Taylor would not portray Jacob like most people envisioned him in New Moon.

Steven Strait was never considered by Summit as far as I know. A lot of fans just pictured him when reading. I see him more as the broody guy from Sky High when I think of Steven playing him. He has Jacob hair in that and is somehow hotter than in The Covenant. That said… if they are not going with Taylor (grr), they should find an actual NATIVE AMERICAN hottie to play Jacob. Put out a wide casting call. The fact that Copon didn’t even have to audition is just bad. It feeds his ego even more and makes me want to gag. I can’t see that ANY chamistry between him and Kriten can happen since guys with huge egos seem to be a huge turnoff for her. Sure, she’s an actress and it’s her job, but Sumcan’t Summit attempt to not make her job nearly impossible?

If none of you guys remember the books anymore, Jacob was sweet but he was always cocky. That was how he was different. He never sugarcoated anything and he allowed Bella to rebel without giving her the guilt trips that Edward does. I am totally team Edward, however, this guy probably would be a great Jacob, and he is beautiful and I’m pretty sure Jacob needs to be bigger than Bella in this movie, not the same size. Sorry. I think Taylor is a cute sweet guy, but it’s not about who is sweet in the movie business or we would probably see actors in roles they couldn’t play that well even though they didn’t fit the part. It would be terrible if the movie industry picked people based on sweetness, cause sorry but think about if Martin Lawrence got some of Will Smith’s roles, they would totally not be the same.

OK EVERYONE!!! I’m always out in Hollywood and this guy has the WORST reputation, he is a liar and exagerrates everything to make himself sound great, not very many people like him! He definately put that qoute on his facebook bc he is one of my friends on there and i saw it!!! He is close friends with his publicist I’ve seen them out many times. This was a very bad publicity stunt and they should be embarrased for what they have done and all the people they have upset. Does anyone really believe that he would HAPPEN to be in a restaurant with his publicist/friend and a news crew just HAPPENED to walk in and interview him. He needs to take responsibility and admit he did it for attention and fame because he is just making a horses ass out of himself! He deserves the treatment he’s getting from everyone because he created it and it backfired and just maybe he will regret it. He is not so innocent and the very few people who feel bad willo realize this too when he pulls another stupid stunt. He keeps digging a bigger and bigger hoke for himself. I think that Mike should play Jacob…I do imagine Taylor as Jacob in Twilight….but for New Moon, I totally see Michael as the Jacob in New Moon since Jacob has that growth spurt and buff and what not…and I do hope that he is Jacob Black in New Moon….I totally see it…No offense to Taylor fans though…I think he is absolutely gorgeous also!

TAYLOR LAUTNER ALL THE WAY. This guy is WAYYY too cocky, and Taylor has a much better head on his shoulder. The part of Jacob nearly triples in size from Twilight to New Moon, and Taylor knows the role inside and out because he nailed it in Twilight! SAVE TAYLOR LAUTNER

I think that Michael Copon will be an excellent Jacob, because I have seen him act. I think he is a brilliant actor, as Eclipse and Breaking Dawn follow on, the role gets tougher and tougher and he is a very strong actor to play the role of Jacob. I believe the Directors will have chosen the right actor in Michael Copon to play Jacob. I love Taylor Lautner, but I do not think he will be strong enough an actor to follow on as Jacob in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.
