KELLAN LUTZ TALKS ‘BREAKING DAWN’

Posted December 9th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 13 Comments »

Kellan Lutz was at the Hollywood Foreign Press Young Hollywood party last night at Nobu and stopped to chat a little bit with The Dish Rag. In the exclusive new interview, Kellan discusses Breaking Dawn and whether or not he hopes the book will be turned into two films, what upcoming projects he has in the works, what his dream role is, and more.

If you’re psyched about the prospect of a two-part “Breaking Dawn,” you’re not alone.

“Twilight” hottie Kellan Lutz is also into it.

“They haven’t told the rest of us actors yet,” he confided exclusively to The Dish Rag at the Hollywood Foreign Press Young Hollywood party last night at Nobu.

“I have read that they are talking to Rob, Taylor and Kristen to negotiate to make ‘Dawn’ into two movies. I’d love for it to be two films,” he added.

“I’m making this checklist as an actor,” he confided. “Right now I just really want to be part of the Bourne franchise and the more I say that, maybe Matt Damon will read it and it and maybe I can play his brother.”

On “Twilight” being his Golden Ticket
“People work 20 years to get what we have,” Kellan admits. “We really are so lucky. Its like you get a headstart and its all because of the fans. And it’s not just about money or getting offers, it’s that we can mold our careers.”

On attributing “Twilight” franchise success to Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
“The rest of us, we could suck probably,” Kellan says. “It’s Rob and Kristen who have the amazing chemistry. Without those two keystones, “Twilight” could have flopped. It really could have.”

they have to make two films!!!
I dont want this to end!!! x

  • teacup

MAKE BREAKING DAWN ONE MOVIE! I will not go see two especially if all of “Jacob’s Book” is filmed…BORING!!!!! Doesn’t scummit get it by now? TL/JB is not what the majority of fans want to see…Rob/Edward and Kristen/Bella is what we love! I felt Edward/Bella fans were denied emotional reunion scenes in New Moon…they were cut and rushed! I’m reading many of the cast members are saying eclipse is more about war than love…even Rob said it in an interview with Rottentomatoes.com so why on earth would I want to sit through two BD movies knowing scummit is not interested in pleasing Edward/Bella fans and following the story? It’s all about TL/JB now is I’m done with the series!

  • taylor daniels

^^^ if your complaining on how scenes in new moon was rushed, how rushed do you think a 700 page breaking dawn will be.

  • Chelle

@teacup I agree with some things that you said, mainly yeah, I would’ve loved to see a longer, more climactic Edward/Bella reunion in NM, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that fans only want the E/B story. I am all about Edward, but how boring would their story be if there were no major competition like Jacob? And I happen to applaud Taylor’s performance as Jacob in NM. There are a lot of die hard team Jacobs out there who can’t get enough of his love for Bella just like we can’t get enough of Edward. And how else are we supposed to see all that happens to Bella and everything else when she is too weak to see and to be aware of what’s going on outside the Cullen house (esp the whole complication with the treaty) if they don’t somehow include Jacob’s book in BD film? I think it’s critical that we see that bond between Bella and Jacob while she’s pregnant, and Jacob’s agony too. Otherwise, well, the film wouldn’t be just like the book like we always whine about.

^^^ Hell yeah, i agree completely!
And ^^^^^^, taylor daniels, hear hear!
Most fans sometime from the release of twilight and now have said how the movies have been rushed. They are doing their best with 500 page books going into 2 hour movie slots. How the HELL would they fit all the emotion and tumult of Breaking Dawn in 2 hours? We have been saying we want the whole book played out accurately, so with 2 movies we are sure to get exactly what we want!

  • Alexias

HELL YEAH! Breaking Dawn novel is HUGE so it really does need to be 2 movies. they cut HEAPS out of New Moon, and the book is half the size of BD. It also has part 1 with Jacobs view and part 2 with Bellas POV so it could work. PLEASE make 2 parts, it would be SO much better that way. And yes, none of us want it to end.

  • maz

BD has to be 2 films – there is NO WAY they can do it justice any other way.

  • Ronee

BD has to be in two film as it is too long, anyway if they split it into 2 films we might get more detail. The reason they are rushing the films is because they arent meant to age and if it takes years to do all the films it will look quite odd. Anyway if BD is in 2 films it will please both Edward and Jacob fans.

  • SamCullen

Yeah I agree with Taylor Daniels
    it’s a huuuuuuge book.
They wouldn’t be able to tell even remotely
enough of the story if it was one movie.
Im all for two movies, and I also want this
to go on longer I think all true Twilight fans
would have to agree with that.

  • jenb

I hope BD will be made into 2 movies. How on earth could they cut that down to 2 hour movie? It would need to be at least 3 hours! I just can’t wait until we get official word from Summit. I want to see the wedding on the big screen! And Bella as a vampire! And Bella saving the day! And the Cullens are more in BD and I love everytime we can see them.

teacup: that’s why I’m nervous about Eclipse. The story is Bella & Edwad’s LOVE STORY. Sure the newborn fight is an important part of the story & the book. I just REALLY hope that they don’t lose what the storie’s ALL ABOUT, and that is Edward & Bella’s romance.

  • Rete

I agree with the need for two movies for Breaking Dawn for most of your reasons above! First, I really hate to see this end but most importantly, there is so much that needs to be shown in the movie and hopefully, Stephenie can help to add some more tid bits to the movie that wasn’t in the book. About New Moon…well, in as much as I loved the movie, I was really disappointed at Bella and Edward’s reunion. I had it so built up in my heart and when it was so rushed, I was so saddened. I hope that the director’s cut of the movie (when on DVD) will show some of the cut scenes that I was looking forward to in the movie. This really gives good reason for there to be two movies for Breaking Dawn. Oh ya…About Eclipse…Is anyone else looking forward to Chapter 22- Fire and Ice as much as I am? I hope that that is included in the movie!

  • Bella

I am kinda hopin for 2 films so they can fit everything they need to in them but I am kinda hopin it isn’t so I can hurry up and see it all lol. I am just wondering where they will split it off at so it makes sense. I think I have an idea where they might. It would be such a good cliff hanger if they did. Anyway that would be cool for Kellan to be in the Bourne franchise. I’d like to see him in it I think it would be a good part for him. I hope he makes it there.

  • ChristinaW

As much as I want to see BD all at once. I hope they make it 2 movies just so they can try to be as close to the books as possible. I would rather sit through a 4-5 hour movie and have it follow the book completely anyway! There was rumor they were going to change BD so it wouldn’t be rated R. I say screw that! If the teenie boppers want to see it make thier mom buy the ticket! I think Kellan is great, though I was disappionted in the way they presented him in NM. It was like he is all muscle and no brains. I didn’t feel that way about him reading the books. Also, anyone else think Rosalie’s wig could look any worse!
