KRISTEN STEWART IN GQ MAGAZINE

Posted October 20th, 2008 By: 24 Comments »

Kristen Stewart will be in the October 21st issue of GQ magazine dishing on Twilight:

Kristen Stewart takes her responsibility to fans of the Twilight book series seriously — and she knows how disappointed devotees of the bestselling novels will be if the movie doesn’t live up to their expectations. Kristen hits the big screen as Bella Swan in ‘Twilight’ in a little over a month and tells GQ of the project: “The series has this huge fan base. And they have very specific expectations. They’re supportive. But they’re crazy.” And what if fans don’t like the direction ‘Twilight’ takes on the big screen? “It’s like we’re their pets,” Kristen tells GQ. “If we’re bad, they’re going to punish us.”

Fans will get their chance to decide for themselves whether the movie brings their dream of Bella and Edward’s vampire love story to life on November 21, when the film swoops into theaters nationwide. The romantic thriller, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (‘Thirteen’), co-stars Robert Pattinson as dreamy Edward Cullen; Taylor Lautner as his rival Jacob Black; Billy Burke as Papa Swan, Charlie; Peter Facinelli as the head of the Cullen clan, Carlisle; Elizabeth Reaser as Cullen mom Esme; Nikki Reed as beautiful Rosalie Cullen, Ashley Greene as impish Alice Cullen, Jackson Rathbone and Kellan Lutz as Cullen brothers Jasper and Emmett; and Cam Gigandet, Edi Gathegi and Rachelle Lefevre as evil vampires James, Laurent and Victoria. To pick up the November issue of GQ that features Kristen, go to the newsstand starting on October 21.

We just found a video for the GQ shoot! Enjoy:

We treat the cast like pets? Wha? That is news to me. We probably would punish them if the movie sucks. You can run but you can’t hide….Twilight better not suck!!! What do you think? Do fans treat the cast like pets? And if the movie sucks, what then?

Kara and I both think Kristen comes off a tad bitchy. Maybe it’s taken out of context?

Haha, pets?! Well, I do REALLY love my pets! I dont think that I could ever think the movie sucks….I hope not!

  • Team Switzerland

So we’re crazy and treat the cast like pets? Aw, Kristen, thanks for the appreciation.

But I do like her dress. It’s the same one Gwyneth Paltrow wore to one of the Iron Man premieres.

  • unbearable

yeah, Kristen is sounding a little snob-ish… like she only does indi movies so she is not liking what is happening with Twilight. But, part of being an actor is being in the spotlight, you have to like that, especially in Hollywood, no?

  • http://twilightersanonymous.com/ Jake

Right off the bat, Kristen (aka Bella Cullen) here conveys herself as being a bit thrown off at Twilight fans’ passion for the book and the movie. We all know that none foresaw the scope and scale of this phenomenon craziness that is Twilight. But still, she’s sounding a bit harsh here.. she needs to add an “lol” or a smiley after it :)

Dawn might be right too. Magazines do their fair share of editing just like in movies and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve cut off quite a large snippet of the interview to shine her in a different light.

Stirring things up are what magazines do best, right!

Regardless, from what I’ve seen so far, she plays an awesome Bella and I still can’t wait to see the movie.

yeah it does sound bitchy. im not really surprised. my friend’s sister went to school with her. ive heard that’s she’s not really vey nice. oh well, i dont really care. i just want the movie to come out already!

  • Hannah

I’m pretty sure she loved being in this movie. It seems so in video interviews. She’s been in quite a few big screen movies though so I’m also pretty sure they took that out of context. Honestly Kristen is kind of shy so they may have taken her things the wrong way. Plus we can be kinda scary, I mean if the movie sucks I know I’m gonna be really angry!

  • britt

ohhh…phew…i am glad that i am not the only one that saw they way she stated that “pets” thing as a bit bitchy.
i mean, honestly, i kind of agree with her, but she could have said it differently.

but regardless, i think she is a wonderful bella and a SUPER talented actress, so its all good!

  • TwilighterInPhoenix

I didn’t take the “pets” comment as being bitchy at all…I thought she was trying to be funny. We all know how poorly sarcasm can translate on the printed page (I do, anyway) And, yeah, without being able to read the transcript of the ENTIRE interview and see what was cut out and rearranged and all that…we can’t really know what was said and how it was said. So, I’m giving Kristen the benefit of the doubt here. She’s young, she’s shy and she’s in this movie that no one expected to be as huge as it is- she’s probably a little more than taken aback by it all…

You know- it has sort of become my sworn duty to defend any and all things that have anything to do with “Twilight”…the books, the cast, the movie, Stephenie Meyer herself…I am TOTALLY a ninja rockstar when it comes to defending my beloved Twilight universe..haha!!!

  • Kytanna

Every interview she seems to act older than she is, but we have to realize that she is ONLY 18. Just because she plays all the ‘mature’ characters doesnt mean she’s that way in real life. She is still just a teenager.

  • adrianna

if she really thinks that did she not think we would read it (of course we would) and react to it,i also agree that it could have been taken out of context she does indies not big budget major star movies.even rob thought it would be an indie cuz that’s what kristen and catherine do.but i hope she wasn’t being a total snob, twilight fans are really hard core and she obviously now knows this.

  • Midori

Yes, Twilight fans are a little crazy. What do you expect? We’ve been waiting for this movie for months. The final trailer was a real teaser with the “kissing scene”. It gave us all a jolt….like wow! I’m sure the cast will be totally awesome. As for saying we treat the cast like “pets”, I don’t think so. We adore the cast. Hot pix of Kristen.

  • Taun85

Am I the only one who thinks that she looks a bit scary in that pic?

  • Laura

TwilighterInPhoenix-You took the words right out of my mouth. I didn’t take it badly. I thought she was just being sarcastic and funny. I alughed and thought it was hilarious that she knows that if fans don’t like the movie-and why wouldn’t they?-they’ll be mad and show it. Haha.

  • K

I think Kristen was being funny because if you seen her live interviews or conferences you can see that she tends to joke a lot. I also agree with TwilighterInPhoenix and how things can be taken out of context when it’s printed in text. I don’t anyone should be offended by the answer she made if they been following the Twilight Saga like they said or pay attention to Kristen’s style of speech and how she chooses to represent herself specially to those who are in her following.

+ Yes, I do think she looks a little bit scary in this picture but in the video she looked beautiful and better. (I don’t know what’s the deal with people selecting photos that don’t flatter her or even look like her. It’s ok, it just doesn’t look like her. Haha!)

  • kerri

Lol! I really feel bad for them! We can be a bit demanding, lol. But it’s because we know exactly the direction and feel the specific moment called for. For instance, the biology scene when Edward and Bella are suddenly immersed into darkness and he’s giving off this electric current. It was the first intense intimate moment, it made my own fingers ache to touch his face, his hands. Stephanie has a way of describing situations so that your in the moment with the characters, not just observing it. So yeah, we know what we want from the actors. Like I said, that poor cast has sooooo much to live up to, but Im not in the least worried anymore!

  • Tracy

I’m having a slightly hard time with a barely 18 year old posing for seductive photos in a men’s magazine. Geez guys, aren’t you robbing the cradle, or is it just that sex sells?

  • Lisa

    I don’t know…some people spoil their pets…

  • AliciaMarie

I just came upon this site through google, and I’m pretty surprised by how judgemental the majority of you are being. Kristen is a human being just like the rest of us, and if you have seen the conventions and events she has gone to for Twilight (fans can be pretty overwhelming and ridiculous) None of us are Kristen Stewart nor do we know what is going on inside her brain. She has done a pretty damn good job as an actor through out her 18 years, and I’m sure she will give it her all as Bella and do an excellent job. I can’t see any of you doing her job, or filling her shoes. Get over yourselves already.

  • Team Switzerland

I don’t really think we’re being judgemental. I think we’re responding to what was put in front of us. We said that it easily could have been taken out of context, so we gave her the benefit of the doubt. We just said initially she comes off a bit bitchy when you read the text. I don’t think anyone ever said that she wouldn’t do a good job as Bella. I actually think we’ve all agreed she was cast perfectly. And I know she has a difficult job and has been dealing with a lot of overzealous fans, but I think she could have worded it differently. I don’t think it’s fair to call us “crazy”, I think it’d be more accurate to say we’re “passionate”.

TwilighterInPhoenix, I’ve reprinted your comment because I think it’s astute and dead-on right. She just turned 18 and, yeah, I know, she isn’t considered a “normal” teenager since she is an actress, but then again, she probably is pretty normal, trying to be humorous and dealing with interviews. I wonder if acting classes teach how to handle press issues?
Careful TA, let’s not feed into the press’s hands on these things. Perhaps the magazine was deliberately trying to generate negative responses?

  • VanessaC

I kind of agree w/AliciaMarie, but I think she was being way too harsh about it. I more agree with TwilighterInPhoenix and K and Laura. Kristen likes to be sarcastic and joke (from what I’ve seen of her in interviews, I obviously don’t know her personally so I don’t really know), and that doesn’t always translate well to paper- especially in an interview which goes through editing so who knows what was actually said b4 it got all cut up and switched around… I know ppl who have been quoted in the newspaper b4 and the quote’ll sound a certain way, but when I actually talk to the person they’re all pissed b/c they didn’t mean it to sound like that at all, it was just twisted and taken out of context so the original meaning is completely lost. anyway, whether Kristen’s a “bitch” or not (which I can’t know for sure one way or the other since I’ve never met her or anyone else who has met her, although of course I definitely like to think she’s a great person), I think she’s absolutely PERFECT as Bella and will do a wonderful job w/the role.

“You know- it has sort of become my sworn duty to defend any and all things that have anything to do with “Twilight”…the books, the cast, the movie, Stephenie Meyer herself…I am TOTALLY a ninja rockstar when it comes to defending my beloved Twilight universe..haha!!!”

I just had to add, I am right there w/you TwilighterInPhoenix- I am your fellow ninja rockstar! lol Positivity all the way- whether it’s the movie, the actors, the author, the books themselves, etc…. although we’re all entitled to our own opinions, mine are always positive, and I think Im much happier that way :) .

you guys are mean, don’t be dissing my favorite actress, i would’ve cracked under the pressure already if i was her but she didn’t cuz she’s awesome, and very sarcastic and shy. when i saw her at comic-con, she was really sarcastic but totally cool

  • http://www.twilightersanonymous.com Wolfsbane

It did come across as funny to me, and I believe she meant it to be that way. I think at this stage in her involvement with the movie and the series franchise, she’s old enough to know better than insult the fans. It’s easy to be taken out of context esp. when you don’t have a lot of control in the final print, since what you see in words don’t really reflect how she said it, the inflection, etc.

  • Ash

I think she’s just saying that as a cover since she did such horrible acting in Twilight. She sounds like she can’t string enough words together to make a coherent sentence. Or did someone put ellipses between all the words in her script?
