LA TIMES: 63 ‘NEW MOON’ SHOWS SOLD OUT

Posted September 17th, 2009 By: Evie 19 Comments »

Ben Fritz at The Los Angeles Times is reporting on the pre-sales for New Moon from Fandango and MovieTickets. So far between the two, 63 shows are sold out.

Fan frenzy is already breaking records for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

Online ticket sellers MovieTickets and Fandango report that the follow-up to last year’s hit from Summit Entertainment, which sold $191.5 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canada, is selling out screenings earlier than any other movie to date.

“New Moon” has sold out 50 showtimes of nearly 22,000 offered on Fandango and 13 showtimes of 2,912 offered on MovieTickets. Most of the sold-out shows are at or around midnight Nov. 20, when the movie debuts.

The two websites started selling “New Moon” tickets extraordinarily early — Aug. 31 for Fandango and Sep. 10 for MovieTickets — as the theater chains they work with began scheduling screenings in anticipation of a huge first weekend. The first “Twilight” grossed a stellar $36 million on its Friday opening, reflecting pent-up demand among fans of the best-selling books.

I haven’t ordered my tickets yet and I know they’re available here. After seeing this, I think I better hurry!

Have you ordered your New Moon tickets yet? Are you surprised New Moon has already sold out so many shows?

I’m not surprised at showings being sold out already. I have tickets for a midnight showing and a 1 PM showing. As soon as more tickets are available for my theater for a 7 PM showing, I’ll get those too . . . all for opening day. The same as Twilight.

I actually reserved an entire theater for myself, friends and family. It was too much stress with Twilight. I wanted to make sure I had an even better seat. I also am on the waiting list to have an entire theater reserved for Eclipse. It is the only way to go!

I am not at all surprise how at the number of theaters that have already sold out. This movie is going to be great!

Behold the power of Twilight, yet again. Not surprised here. Got my midnight tickets two weeks ago as soon as I found out my theater was selling them, they didn’t even know they were selling them til I asked to get them LOL

  • TwilightGirl52

You bet, I ordered the minute they were out! Can’t wait!

    Grinning like a Cheshire cat!

Just ordered mine. Didn’t think my local chain of theatres would have them on sale, I was wrong. Can’t wait!

There I live; the movie theaters haven’t started selling tickets yet. And I hope they don’t sell out because I can’t buy a head like that.

    Ditto Chris :)

I am not surprised about ticket sales, no sir not one bit.

No surprise here, Who needs for them to guy things up, never under estimate chicks with an obsession.

We just started selling midnight tickets. Problem is…we have no clue how many prints we’re getting so we don’t know any other times yet. Not sure how we’re doing. We just set it up yesterday…I have a feeling I’m gonna be at the theater til 6am like with Harry Potter. We had to do a 3am show last minute because we were turning away so many people (with 3 theaters showing it at midnight).

Here’s to hoping we get the films a day or two early so I can watch it in peace & quiet.

For Twilight, our first 7pm show…I actually had to have them stop the previews and go in and tell everyone to CALM DOWN lol

I was on Fandango’s “alert” list for New Moon tickets. The day they said tickets were available in my zip code, I bought 4 to a midnight show. I’ll probably buy tickets to another showing that weekend as well… just need to coordinate with friends. ;)

Already? 63 shows sold out? Wow. The reponse is even better than I expected. Okay, guess I’m the only one surprised here. Man, I hope I can get mine!

  • Alexandra

Got my tickets last night when I saw that on Perezhilton that they were selling out!
    Got 4! So excited!!!!! :) ))

I’m not concerned about finding a midnight show here in Columbus, OH even on the evening of. I know of at least 6 theaters that are showing it and at least 5 of them will have 2 screens. If you take into consideration the past midnight showings of other films in my area, they have all had 3 or 4 screens. I’m not too worried nor will I be devastated if I don’t see it at midnight. I will probably wait until I can use my passes or a cheap matinee to see it anyway since I have an aversion to spending $10 and hours of my time on a movie. I thoroughly regret having done so for HP.

  • michelle

totally excited! tried to get the midnight show but gotpremiere day @ 8PM. I’ll take it!!!!

  • emmy

OMG shows sold out already! thats crazy. id better book my tickets soon…

Hey New Moon is also pre-selling tickets out here in Australia…we are going to the advance screening on the 18th of November thankgod we managed to get tickets – its insane!!! and I am mental for anything to do with the Twilight saga(geez i really dont like the word saga it seems wrong to me) but yeah people who havnt got tickets anywhere in the world hunt them down and book them fast because you wil miss out and we still have 9 weeks to go – ome how will i ever go on

  • maria

I bought my midnight tickets to Bow Tie Cinema last week, probably going to get matinee tickets for 11/20 tomorrow before those sell out too. When i went this past weekend to the movies, they said that they are selling tickets so fast that it looks like its gonna be on 2 screens.
When i went to twilight, i got tickets that morning for the midnight show and there was probably 30 people there… i think New moon is going to be a completely different experience!
