‘NEW MOON’ CASTING COMPLETE, ‘ECLIPSE’ GETS A NEW DIRECTOR

Posted February 28th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 30 Comments »

Big news in the ‘Twilight’ world today, ladies and gents. Not only is Live-PR.com reporting that casting for ‘New Moon’ is, indeed, complete, but they also give us a heads up as to who is set to direct the third film, ‘Eclipse’.

The casting director for New Moon, Joseph Middleton, has announced that “We are finished with the casting process”. No details on the cast list has been released by Summit Entertainment.

The rumor mill has been on fire with talk of Madonna, Vanessa Hudgens, AnnaLynne McCord, and Dakota Fanning being hired for a coveted spot on the New Moon cast, however there has been no official confirmation of any of them being hired.

There have been rumors circulating that Drew Barrymore will be directing the third installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Series. These rumors are false. Due to the New Moon post-production schedule for director Chris Weitz, his brother and co-owner of “Depth of Field Productions” – Paul Weitz – will be directing Eclipse.

Okay, wow! First of all, it’s nice to know casting is complete, but uh, we’re all waiting nice and patiently to actually see that cast list. And I find it really interesting that Paul Weitz would be chosen to direct the third film. Now, please remember that these reports are not 100% confirmed until you hear it from Summit directly.

What do you think of these reports? Are you relieved that they’ve finished casting for the film? And what about ‘Eclipse’ – how do you feel about Paul Weitz reportedly taking over? Are you relieved that they say the Drew Barrymore reports were false?

I’m not familiar with Paul or Chris’s work, but I’m sure that if they have experience in visual arts, both movies will turn out great!
I’m so exited about the casting news! I’m realllly looking forward to see a casting list as well, I thought it was already published here when I read the title, – screamed – :P

  • ellue

    uuuu. :—D I can’t wait new moon

  • creamy

Not to be critical of Drew Barrymore, but I am intensely relieved that particular rumor was false. She is OK (but not more than that) as an actress, but a director? And of this type of movie? Her publicist must have been working overtime to generate that story.

I don’t know anything about Paul Weitz. Does being the co-owner of a production company constitute the wherewithal to be a director in such a huge franchise? Or maybe the sibling connection helped. I don’t know.

Like everyone else, I am very curious to learn the names of the full cast. If it doesn’t leak out before, I would imagine Summit would reveal that list close to the release date for the Twilight DVD. In the movie business, the more attention the better.

Wow is right! I’m really excited to get the cast list. And Paul Weitz, that IS interesting. But it looks like he’s been involved in some really awesome movies. I loved Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. I’m not 100% psyched on it, I’d like to hear from him first. It looks like Chris and Paul work very closely together, so I guess a lot rides on how well New Moon turns out. But this news is promising.

  • Hayden

I am 100% relieved that Drew Barrymore is not directing. I like her as an actor, but she’s too inexpierienced as a directer. Her god-father, on the other hand, is my favorite of all time, but Twilight doesn’t seem to be his sytle.

Knowing the cast is complete will just make me more impation for the rest of the cast. I am really anxious to see if Dakota Fanning made it. I think she’d be perfect. And to see who all the Volturi will be! I should be talking about this, I’m getting too excited.

  • Britt

Why is everybody going on about Eclipse when they haven’t even started filming New Moon yet?

  • DazzledByTwilight

I wont be excited until I see Solomon’s name right before Sam Uley. So with that being the case…ok…whatever at this point

  • tammy

chris was the director of the golden compass, so he has experience in cgi, and wolfs, so he will do fine in that department

  • Carly

Wow, I think that’s GREAT that Paul will be directing. Talk about an amazing situation where continuity can remain intact and hopefully they can work together to direct Breaking Dawn, which I think will be the hardest one. I was really worried they would get a lame director, so that’s amazing news and I can’t wait!

  • kirsten

Gotta say that I am relieve that Drew is Directing Eclipse. Which isn’t intirely fair because I haven’t seen any thing she had directed nor have I seen any thing that Paul has directed. I’m just hoping talent runs in the family.

  • La Mia Penombra

Oh, finally! This is great news, and I can’t wait to see the cast list.

  • Jessica

I AM SO GLAD THAT DREW BARRYMORE ISN’T GOING TO DIRECT ECLIPSE! SHE SHOULD STICK WITH ACTING

  • ale

well not to brag but this sumer im gowing to italy u know…. VOLTERRA so yay meeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Carrie

I think it is great that Drew is not directing Eclipse and that it is staying in the family…there will be continuity with ideas and directing style. That is huge. plus the cast list will probably be made public once filming starts like they did for twilight (keep people guessing)

  • Gabi

Sooooo relieved Drew Barrymore won’t be directing this movie! I don’t consider her that experienced… I believe Chris Weitz will do a great job directing this movie considering what he’s done in the past (specially The Golden Compass) and regarding Paul, I’ve done some research and apparently the brothers have co-directed 3 movies before: American Pie, About a Boy and Down to Earth, so the shared role has worked for them before. I suppose it will work for them again. Although Paul has worked mostly on directing in the comedy/drama/romance department he recently directed an adventure/fantasy/horror/thriller movie (Cirque du Freak) that is supposed to be released late this year, and the good news is that it is about vampires!!!!!

  • Rina

Wow! Already? Hmmm…. I can’t see Madonna in a Twilight movie… None of Steph’s characters scream “madonna”. As for Vanessa, I HOPE she isn’t in it. She can’t act.
Dakota would be cool tough. I like her.

  • Katy

I think if there is a casting cal for a Tanya then i should be picked!!!!

  • TwilightDiva

Well just so that people are aware that Paul is just as qualified to direct a Twilight franchise film…he and Chris have actually colaborated as directors on most of their films…Paul was the credited director of American Pie (Chris was the uncredited director)…together they also directed Down to Earth, and About A Boy…Paul has also solo directed In Good Company, American Dreamz, and Cirque du Freak which is completed but not released as of yet.

I want drew barrymore get to be the new directer of the new moon the movie because i really want vanessa hudgens to get the lead part as leah. Because i know drew barrymore really needs to be friends with vanessa so that they get to know each other. I really want leah to have love and the better new cast will be vanessa better than the other one who has the lead. Vanessa is number one as leah.

  • Brenda

if ya’ll have vanessa in twilight that ain’t gonna work

  • twilight freak :)

    hell no to vanessa hudgens!
and i really hope dakota fanning gets the part, shes awesome! L)

  • Tonia

I think they should use the song “Almost Lover” by A Fine Frenzy for when Edward Leaves Bella in the woods. Pass it along.

  • Leelee

It sounds like the directors might know what they are doing, but the only comment I have is that I hope New Moon is better than Twilight. I absolutly loved the book, but the movie, for me, was severly lacking in content. So many important plot points and intense emotional moments, that are required to understand much of New Moon, were completly missing from the movie. That said, IM SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! and cant wait to see the future movies and how they hold up the the level the books are written on. By far BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ IN A LOOONG TIME!!!!!

  • Georgie

I really dont think Vannessa should be in New Moon. She will remind me of HSM and no one wants to be reminded of those films. I think Dakota Fanning should be Jane, it would be like a mix of cute and evil all in one. Go New Moon

  • lina

omg i think vanessa should play leah shes sooo pretty and she can act!!! who cares if she wasin hsm 1 2 3 shell be great and i love dakota yewww go go dakota

  • Rosalinda

i really dont care who gets the part i just want the movie to come out because my parents say im getting really annoying which i dont want to be ( yet i still hope Dakota gets the part of Jane):D

  • Cecilia

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to audition for Eclipse? I think I would fit the part as Mary. Or maybe someone else.

  • Jazzy

Actually, its been confirmed that Paul Weitz is not directing Eclipse, and neither is Drew Barrymore. Rather, director of 30 Days of Night and other movies, David Slade is directing Eclipse, according to numerous sites, including imdb.com.
    Just wrapping up some rumors.

  • Twilighterr

many other websites have said that they are still calling for parts in eclipse soo i want to make shure that i have my facts right soo message me ASAP! thankss

  • Heather Walker

I was so interested in auditioning for these movies. Ive been hearing on the radio that Joseph Middleton is casting in Dallas this weekend, but when I call the number nothing happens. I really want information.
