LIVE-PR - NEW MOON AND ECLIPSE FILMED BACK TO BACK?

LIVE-PR Public Relations and News is reporting that not only will New Moon and Eclipse be filmed back to back but auditions will be held soon.

Summit Entertainment has started preparing to cast the sequel “New Moon”, based on Stephenie Meyer’s second book in the series. To contain costs, the studio is filming Meyer’s third book, “Eclipse”, back to back with a new director now that “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke is being replaced.

Hardwicke had until recently been thought a candidate to direct the sequel, but word began to circulate in the industry that her relationship with series producer Summit Entertainment has not always been smooth.

On Sunday, Summit confirmed that Hardwicke would not direct the film, saying in a statement that its plans to release the film in late 2009 or early 2010did not mesh with Hardwicke’s required prep time.

“Twilight”, the film that drew legions of fans of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire book series, earned an estimated $70.5 million in North American box-office receipts during its opening weekend. The movie rang up the fourth-highest November opening weekend of all time. That’s an extraordinary result for an independently produced film that cost just $37 million to make and was passed over by Paramount’s MTVFilms.

Summit has said that they want to start auditions and casting the films new actors as soon as possible, as chemistry between talent has been the key to “Twilight’s” huge success. The production company has a history of discovering new talent and not having to spend a laarge part of the production’s budget on name stars. Although the stars of “Twilight” can expect a substantial pay increase for the upcoming films.

Auditions and casting call information for both “New Moon” and “Eclipse” is posted on following website:

  1. jen responded:

1st!! haha I’ve never done this, LOL.
I think filming back to back is a good idea, especially since Edward is not supposed to look older, though Robert would look good at any age :)
Even though they’ll will be busy for a while, after they are done they have close to a year before promotions for Eclipse and that would give them time to work on other projects instead of filming for Eclipse.

  2. Tessa responded:

I think its a great idea! That way we wont have to wait forever for eclipse to come out. This will also give them a lot of extra time to really prepare for Breaking Dawn. Considering it may be the most difficult to do. I just wish Catherine was directing. It’s a shame, they’re messing up a good thing. Lets hope for our (the fans) and summit’s sake that the new director does a better job- other wise it will just suck for everybody.

  3. twilightfan14 responded:

And the weird news keeps coming! I don’t think it’s a good idea to film them back to back. Yes, it’s faster and cheaper, but I don’t think faster and cheaper is what I want to see. This also will make it harder to find a new director who’s willing to film both back to back. I guess they are worried about the cast aging, but they are all young and they’re not going to change that much, plus the vampire makeup would easily make up for that. I do hope they give the cast and crew some time off between the two films, so they won’t get exhausted.

  4. Chelsea responded:

This is fantastic! It’s a good idea, because of the vampires not aging. I’m glad they are moving forward with both movies. :)

Also, I’m sending in a head shot & resume tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

  5. san responded:

    I think it’s a great idea!

  6. kerri responded:

Smart idea, but I dont want Eclipse’s script rushed. That worries me. But age wise, the actors have to look the same in every film. Doing it this way is the smart thing to do! Wow, Summit’s really taking charge!

  7. coco responded:

I think that it’s a great idea to film back-to-back! The first film obviously didn’t take long to shoot, since the storyline is already set up for them. I am a little weary on what another producer will try to portray in the next few movies. The first one was AMAZING! I hadn’t read the books until I saw the movie and I saw it a few times. lol. Idk.I liked that it wasn’t too Hollywood..it really made it all about the story and the characters. Keep us updated on any new movie stuff!!

  8. unbearable responded:

I think it is good they are filming New Moon and Eclipse back to back, but isn’t Kristen supposed to start filming the Joan Jett’s movie soon as well? How will they make that work?
And, what are these auditions for? New characters or replacing the previous cast? We know Rob and Kristen are in, but what about the other actors?

  9. Cheyenne responded:

I Love The Fact They will Be Filming Both Movies at Once That Way Crazy Fans Out There Dont Have to Wait So Long To See What One Another It’s Kinda How The Lord Of The Rings Filmed First movie was Made The They Decided The Last Three Be Made At Once Which Went So Smoothly.

  10. Chey Cullen responded:

lol we have the same name.

  11. sarah_s2 responded:

it MIGHT work but im scared that eclipse wouldnt be the best it could be becuase of the production time. if they waited they would have more time to do a bigger and better set…but i sort of agree because of the vampires aging thing, but they wont age THAT much

  12. ronn responded:

WEE!! that’s a great idea! but im afraid that the quality will suffer due to the short amount of time in between! omg i cant wait for renesme! hahahahaha

  13. AllisCullen responded:

I think filming back-to-back is the best strategy, given that half the cast can’t age!!!!

  14. ana responded:

I think filming back to back is an excellent idea. Love it or hate the idea, guys, it has to be done considering the world that has been created by Stephenie, ours gorgeous vampires not aging and PLUS if you think about it the story line from Twilight- Breaking Dawn only takes a year and a half. So yes this is the only way.

I also wish Summit would close in on the rights for BD, I want to have some peace of mind that this film will in fact be made, which I have no doubt it will.

  15. Larissa responded:

unbearable, they have to cast for the werewolves and Volturi, so the rest of the cast isn’t touched.

I think it’s fine that they’re filming back to back, I don’t see a problem with it as long as, as Kerri said, the script isn’t rushed. They need to get all the essentials in there, feelings and reasonings and such.

  16. Midori responded:

I guess it’s a good idea since Rob has to be 17 through the whole saga. But, he would good at any age. What’s that they say about women, “your not getter older, your just getting better”. Well, he will just be getting better. Also, we won’t have to wait forever for it to be released. I’m ust reading Breaking Dawn for the zillionst time. This book will be difficult to do the special effects, the story is soooo good. I saw the video from France this morning and Kristen and Rob look fantastic that group interview. I know Rob knows a little French.

  17. sha responded:

Eveything will be Great!!! Have a little faith people. As long as rob and kristen are in we are all good…

  18. chrissy responded:

my biggest worry is them replacing the cullens with diff. actors. i think they did perfect the first time around and they should all be on board till the end! i loved nikki and ashely as rosalie and alice. same goes with the rest of the cast! i prob wouldn’t go see it if its not the same actors. and then my next worry is the director, the movie was so non hollywood and thats what made me go back 4x and counting to see it. i hate hollywood computer generated movies. this movie made me feel like i was there. it will be awful if he/she changes the feel and vibe of the movie!

  19. Viki responded:

Excellent idea. They should film Breaking Dawn right afterwards as well.

  20. miniJAZZ responded:

i think it will be great filming them back to back…but about these “new actors” do they mean ALL new actors? i really hope not because i will not see NM or Eclipse if they cast ALL new actors…anywho just a thought!

  21. TwilightMama responded:

I’m happy they dropped Hardwicke- I sincerely believe because of her Twilight was poorly done. Look at the Bourne series: they filmed those using different directors from the first one and though they were ALL excellent films, I think the second two were far better than the first.

Filming back to back is a fantastic idea due to not only budget but because of the obvious demand from the audience. As much as I enjoyed most of New Moon, it was- IMO - the most boring book out of the four. I can’t wait to see how they manage all the special effects with the rest of the books! I beg of them: USE CGI!!!

  22. Teyha responded:

I like the idea of filming back to back also, because I worry about the age thing too. If they let years lapse between now & finishing Eclipse, Rob could be 25+. They still have Breaking Dawn too. HOWEVER…I worry about this money thing. I’m thinkin that they might be trying to do this too FAST & too CHEAP. Just because Twilight has done well; GREAT actually; doesnt mean it didn’t have it’s flaws. I want them to put more money & attention to New Moon & Eclipse. I dont want it rushed. They missed some significant things in Twilight that set the groundwork for the New Moon. Of course…I’ve still seen the movie 5 times too. Being the dedicated fan…Plus I just want to see the movies soon, selfishly. I just want them to be excellent. To have forever.

  23. oretha responded:

This has been done for a few movies. Johnny Depp did it for The Pirates. They did it for Lord of The Rings, matrix. They all shot their sequels at the same time.
Record companies do it with music videos as well.

  24. Inga responded:

It doesn’t really matter to me how they film it but filming back to back has given good results in the past, for example Pirates of the caribbean 2 and 3. And since New Moon and Eclipse don’t really have a time lapse between them it may help the cast and crew to think of it as one continuity. I just hope they hire a good director that cares about more than just the action!

  25. Janice Miller responded:

I emailed Summit and told them they should do this. In fact, they should film all 3 of them together, just like Peter Jackson did for Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They filmed for 15 months and then the movies came out once a year which was perfect because New Line saved a ton of money and did not have to renegotiate higher wages for the actors, everyone was still in the movie, no one aged, and I think it is a win win for Summit. They can’t go wrong. Plus if they film them all together–the rest will have the same director. We can rest assurd our films will be on the big screen.

  26. Scott responded:

As I said elsewhere, as long as they (Summit) give us films that honor and reflect the original stories to the best of their ability, I’m kool and the gang with shooting back to back features. Four letters describe how successful that can be: L O T R .

Speaking of which, anyone know if Peter Jackson is available to direct? (Wishful thinking, yes, but if you’re gonna dream, dream big.)

  27. Ashley M responded:

I new after watching “Twilight” that if they did proceed with filming sequels that they would have to shot back to back to allow the actors aging to be minimal. Not to mention that if they film them back to back and are able to save a substantial amount then maybe they will pour some of those funds into special effects. I am a huge fan of the series and I have watched the movie (in theaters of course) a few times and I realized that it wasn’t up to par, so to speak. I am excited at the idea of a new director also!!! As much as I loved “Twilight” I felt that there was plenty of room for improvemenet!

  28. zophie responded:

I’m afraid of them rushing it. That they will lose quality. They don’t seem to get that the fans only want guality work. If they take longer to put the movie out, the fans will STILL be there and hyper excited. Plus, the fandom has increasing numbers every day! So, there is absolutely no reason the suits up at Summit should be rushing this.

Filming back to back is smart, however. It gives them more time for the post production for Eclipse if they release the films a year apart. The scene where the wolves get the scent of each of the Cullens could look really cool. If they actually show some of the newborn battle at the end, it would look better having more time in post. New Moon has effects, sure. But Eclipse might need more time.

  29. Cryse responded:

I’m super stoked that they are filming back to back. It’ll help everyone stay in the same state of mind. I have a few concerns with replacing Catherine, but I have faith in Summit, that they are making the right decision here. I’ve been thrilled with plenty of their other movies and I can’t help but feel like the Twilight Books are in good hands. Besides, at this point, with the ginormous fan base that Twilight has, I’m positive they won’t do something stupid. Can you imagine the uproar they’d get from us?!?

  30. Danielle responded:

I don’t think filming them back to back will be a bad idea, as long as the script isn’t rushed and is just as good as if they would have waited. If everything is still done to the level of if it were just one film with plenty of time, I think it’s a good idea.

I’m going to try to audition for a small part in this :]

  31. cassieknee responded:

It’s a great idea, and done from time to time with success. There’s just a couple of things that concern me.

First, and this has been mentioned by a number of ‘posters’ here; that they will try to penny pinch (thinking small seems to be Summits trademark) and maybe do NM and Eclipse for the $150mil they announced as being the budget for ‘the next Twilight project’, and

Secondly, if they pennypinch, some of the less obsessed fans will not give the movies the support the they deserve and Summit will use it as an excuse not to do Breaking Dawn. Judging by some of the commentary by various journo’s and bloggers, there is concensus out there that BD shouldn’t/couldn’t be made because of the content. Now I think that’s a load of rubbish, but since my opinion doesn’t carry any weight in these matters (would that it did) I just have to hope that these naysayers don’t hold any authority with the ptb’s either.

  32. Vanessa responded:

I think it all depends on who they get to direct it, that way both movies wont be ruinied. But I have confidence in Melissa Rosenburg in getting a good script out.

  33. kayla responded:

yea thats a great idea so it will go faster so we can see all the movies faster i like cant wait there sooo goood

  34. amanda responded:

i think its a really great idea..tht way we wont have to wait as long. and by tht time they might consider to make Breaking Dawn into a movie. now tht they will most likly have more time….

  35. Claudia responded:

Filming back to back can work as long as long as the script is not rushed, my biggest question is are they going to be doina a “Breaking Dawn” movie does anyone know?? I can’t wait to see how New Moon and Eclips turns out…

  36. liz responded:

Does anyone know where “New Moon” will be filmed?

  37. Amber responded:

They are filming New Moon in Washington, Oregon, and Italy! I know because I live 30 mins. From forks and have been to the school where they filmed. And my talent agent is in Portland so they will film in all three locations but the only characters going to Italy are the ones who went in the book. ie. Alice, Bella, Edward, and the Volturi. They are casting Italians as extras in Italy and also in Portland through Dan Stoltz Casting. He has a website.

  38. nessa responded:

How do we get to be an extra in this movie ? I read so many things with what you have to go through, but I feel there is a lot more to it.

  39. Dianne responded:

I think that it is a good idea so that everone will look the same and its good for the fans so we dont have to wait so long like we are doing now now i know when i finish one the other one will be there to watch. But makes sure you give the actors alot of time to rest.

  40. mariah responded:

    it’s a great idea!!!!
but they need to add more detail.
because when i saw the movie after i read the book thay left out alot of stuff and changed the wording around and the scenes!!!!

  41. MALISSA MCDANIEL responded:

I LOVED THE MOVIE.THE STORY SOLD THE SHOW. SIMPLE CAN OFTEN BE BETTER. NOT THAT THE STORY WAS,BUT THE LACK OF FOUL LANGUAGE,AND BLOOD AND GUTS WAS A VERY NICE CHG.THE MOVIE MOVED ME TO SEE IT MORE THAN ONE TIME.AND INSPIRED ME TO READ THE OTHER BOOKS. A BOOK A DAY.THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST SET OF BOOKS TO COME ALONG IN FOREVER.THE MANY TOPICS COVERD,KEEP THE READER INGROSSED.YOU DON’T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY TO PUT THE BOOK DOWN.YOU HAVE TO READ UNTIL YOUR DONE,EVEN IF IT’S 6:00 AM. EVEN IF YOU HAVE READ THROUGH THE NIGHT.I WOULD NOT MESS WITH A GOOD THING. THE REST OF THE MOVIES WILL FAIL,IF YOU CHG.THE FILMING STYLE AND CAST NOW.AND,IF YOU GO EXTREME, WITH YOUR STYLE OF FILMING FUTURE MOVIES.LET THE STORIES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.OR,THE CONTENT WILL BE LOST.IT WILL BECOME ABOUT ACTION,AND STYLE.RATHER THEN THE BOOKS, AND THE NEVER ENDING LOVE STORY, I COULDN’T PUT DOWN.EVERY MOVIE SEQUAL OR SOAP OPERA,THAT HAS CHG.ACTORS.HAS EITHER FAILED TO BE AS MOVING,OR IT IS SUCH A DISTRACTION.TO TRY AND HAVE NEW ACTORS GROW ON YOU.MANY VIEWERS LOSE INTREST.YOU MAY HAVE TIME IN A SOAP, BUT NOT A MOVIE,TO HOPE THIS CHG. I THINK YOU’LL HAVE GRRREEAT! SUCCESS.SINCERLEY,MALISSA MCDANIEL.

  42. Autumn95 responded:

I think its a great idea! The whole movie is going to be boring if its just about New Moon because the whole movie would be about Bella’s depresion. So at least if they make them together into one movie it will be more better! :) So i think its a great idea. but i cant wait for breaking dawn so at least i wont have to wait so long! :)

  43. Jenni responded:

I think that it is rally cool that they are filming new moon and eclipse back to back since they vampires are not supposed to age but I think it would it awesom eif they also did Breaking dawn cause it wouldn’t be the same with not having the 4th movie.

  44. Candice - Obsessed Twilighter responded:

This would be the best way. Because as everyone has said Edward is 17 in the books. And even though he might look good at any age, the age he needs to look is 17. Do we really want a sexy looking 21 year old Edward? (easy on the eyes, YES! true to the book, NO) Lets face it, they have time restrictions in these movies. I don’t think anything will suffer because of shooting back to back. And plus, they have done this woith other movies and they have been Great! Just my 2 cents!

  45. Livvi responded:

omg i think this is an AMAZING idea because its bad enough that we have to wait all this time for new moon! and i cant wait for breaking dawn to be filmed because its amazing!!

    love ya’s!

    liv

    xxxxxxxxxxx

  46. Brooke Webb responded:

Filming back-to-back is a good idea, since the Cullen can never age. However, Why is there no mentioning about Breaking Dawn? Someone said it was coming out in 2012, or 1214. Is this true?
And by going in to the movies both so fast, I hope it won’t effect the work that it has made. I hope in New Moon they add the affection between the characters. Like how Jake loves Bella, and how hurt Bella was when Edward left. I of course am SUPER excited for these movies.
I’m glad they started filming this month.
New Moon trailers should be coming soon (:
    YAYAYAYAY!

  47. stacy responded:

I ABSOLUTELY think that the movies should be filmed back to back. I only hope that they will also be turning Breaking Dawn into a movie. I want to watch them all, NOW!!! I cannot wait to see Edward and Bella’s love grow!!!

  48. Yessica responded:

I think it will be better to film back to back because the anticipation from the audience is there and just as Twilight left us wanting MORE, I’m sure New Moon will do the same. People just can’t get enough of Edward. Now, if only I had an Edward in my life……

  49. Breanne responded:

I think filming the movies back to back is the only way to do them. Each book leaves you wondering what happens next, so obviously the movies will do the same so the faster the better. Also permitting they stay as true to the book as possible. If they rush through the movies & even one of the movies doesn’t live up to its reading reputation I think many fans including myself will begin to shy away from opening weekend & begin renting.
Also on an additional note, I am really excited to see what this new director has to bring to the table & to see his interpretation. I know many people were fond of Catherine Hardwicke’s twilight movie, but I must say I honestly didn’t care for it. I actually began reading the books after I saw the 1st movie & was still not impressed. & before I continue further, to plead my case, I think it is important to know that I have loved theater, movies, & literature all my life & I know that each one has a different take & a different away of portraying things. I know you can’t give as many details in a movie as a book can. So I do understand that the directors & so on can only do so much to portray any book, but still I felt there was a lot more they could have done for twilight.
I felt their love for one another was not shown as well or as in depth as it should have been & I don’t think they showed how much Bella really wanted to become a vampire in the 1st movie, they just squeezed it in at the end so that info. was known so it could play into the rest of the movies. & finally I felt they could have & should have added a few more scenes. I think it would have made all the difference. The movie ended up taking (not including credits) 1hr. & 48mins. I think they could have managed at least 12mins. of extra scenes. I mean common Harry Potter movies are starting to run over 3 hours & I think they can spare an extra 10mins of scenes for the twilight movies. I would rather sit through a great 3 hour movie thinking it was amazing worth every penny talking about how awesome it was for days, rather then leave the theater after 90mins. thinking the movie left much to be desired. Does anyone feel the same?

  50. ashleigh S. responded:

i think it is a great idea i cnt wait till new moon comes out only 151 days left (yes im counting) and that means eclipse will come out sooner than expected

  51. jenny responded:

i think this is the best idea ever!
