‘Twilight’ Dawns Tonight With Hundreds of Midnight Shows Sold Out on Fandango

NEW FILM OVERTAKES ‘HARRY POTTER’ MOVIES AS THIRD BIGGEST ADVANCE TICKET-SELLER IN COMPANY HISTORY

“Twilight” currently represents more than 94% of all weekly ticket sales on Fandango.

“It’s our fastest ticket-seller since ‘The Dark Knight’”, says Rick Butler, chief operating officer of Fandango. “The impressive advance ticket sales are clearly the result of the growing Internet buzz from the novel’s online fans. There are so many moviegoers staying up late to see the movie at midnight that ‘Twilight’ might single-handedly boost coffee sales on Friday morning.”

Here are a few statistics from our ongoing survey of more than 5,000 “Twilight” moviegoers on Fandango.com:

– 83% say they plan to see “Twilight” more than once;
– 56% are planning to see the movie with a group of friends;
– 42% of respondents are 25 or older; 58% are younger than 25;
– 25% of respondents claim they will see “Twilight” with their moms or daughters;
– 67% say they are attracted to “Twilight” because of the love story
between Edward and Bella;
– 73% are most excited to see Robert Pattinson as Edward on the big
screen, more than any other character portrayal;
– 87% have seen “Twilight” clips or trailers online;
– 92% of respondents say the clips and trailers made them want to buy a
ticket.

Wow! I hope this means it will make the $150 million needed for the okay to go ahead with New Moon. Summit’s online efforts are certainly paying off. What do you think of these stats?

    This is good news. The fact that Twilight has already beaten HP in advance ticket sales bodes well. And most guesses have the movie making anywhere from 50-70 million. I think it will make more. 110!
    Even if it’s 50-70, we are guaranteed New Moon. So I will be happy either way. If there’s enough action, it will do well oversees too.

    Thats amazing news! Like Catherine, every one…cross your fingers, your toes and even braid your hair! WOOOOOT!

    Yeah for Twilight – I bought my advance tickets, first time that I ever have done so, on Oct 31. I have tix for next weekend too.

    According to Chapters/Indigo books in Canada (where I’m from) Twilight Saga has outsold Harry Potter by a significant amount.

    Now the movies have — who has the better fans? Say it again, who?

    I JUST came back from the film and I must say it is awesome. Other Twilighters seemed very satisfied or were nitpicking differences when we all hearded out of the theater. All in all it’s a success for the fandom. I’m thinking the sequel is inevitable. From some of the reviews, I expected the movie wouldn’t be so good, but I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah, effects were cheesy, but the sparkle effect was cool. I can’t wait to see it again. Taylor stole the screen whenever he was on. Both Teams Edward and Jacob should be very satisfied with their favorites here. They both delivered.

    Exciting! Enthralling! Enchanting! I loved the movie. Just got back! The theater I went to said they had sold out on 4 and about a half of the theaters for the midnight shows. The crowd was predominately female and altho there was plenty of chatter before the movie began, the silence during was testiment to the way everyone was completely “dazzled” by what they were seeing on screen. Kudos to infinity to Catherine Hardwick and the cast and screen writer. I think they did a fabulous job telling Bella and Edward’s love story. I can’t WAIT to SEE IT AGAIN! And of course Can’t Wait for the second one!

    omigod you know they are going to make a sequel. the way the ended it, there NEEDS to be a sequel!!!!

    the theater that I went to last night- it has 20 theaters– 16 of them were sold out the same dsay the advanced tickets went on sale ( 10/22) as of last night they were completely sold out in all theaters and then did a 2:40 a.m. showing – it was almost sold out!! that was one of the theaters in the area that was playing it the other ones ( 5 of them ) were also completely sold out all of their theaters,17 at one, 8 at another, 16 and so on.

    I thruely hope that this weekend Twilight makes TONS of money enough for them to start NEW MOON–

    I loved the movie!!!

  • Sherry

    The movie was absolutely amazing I don’t believe they could have done a better job trying to fit such a complex book into 2 hours. I loved it and am actually dying to see it again, maybe today and of course next week again, it is truly an obsession.:)

  • Kylie

    There is one problem. Twilight did not overtake Twilight in advance sales?
    The midnight showing and first day for HP was more. It could be that advance sales are just more use today than back in 2005.

  • Brenda

    Opening Weekend Box Office Gross:
    ……Twilight: $69,637,740
    Harry Potter 1: $90,294,621

  • Harry Potter Forever

    Harry Potter is the best. Twilight will never be better than Harry Potter

  • Potterhead

    I totally agree! Twilight did NOT beat Harry Potter anyways. These people have obviously not seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Brenda and Kylie I salute you as a Potterhead!
