METRO NEWS: ROBERT PATTINSON ON HIS NEWLY FOUND FAME

Posted June 12th, 2009 By: Evie 8 Comments »

Metro News out of Edmonton is back again from behind the scenes on the set of New Moon. Today they bring us an interview with Robert Pattinson, where he talks about fame, being Edward and his favorite movie vampire.

Robert Pattinson melted the hearts of many when Edward Cullen first appeared on screen in Twilight. The young actor is back in New Moon, but still admits he is shocked with the phenomenon Twilight has turned into. Pattinson sat down with Metro to talk about New Moon, his own success, and his character.

How is the filming going?

It’s great. To be honest, I am surprised at how relaxed it is. I was really nervous before we started because there’s so much expectation now. But with this team, everything seems to work really well. Everyone knows each other. It’s one of the most relaxed jobs I’ve ever worked on. It’s really strange. It’s going really well so far.

Last time we spoke, you told me that you still walked in the street without anyone recognizing you. I’m assuming that’s changed now.

I don’t walk in the street anymore, and when I do, I’m in disguise. (laughs) It’s actually a relief being back at work.

Were you surprised that Twilight became such a phenomenon?

It never ever fails to shock me. Even here. Yesterday, there were 300 people outside the set. It’s just crazy. Every day, every single person I meet knows someone who has a very strong attachment to the books. It’s very difficult to put your head around. I can go through customs at any airport in the world — every customs agent is like, ‘Can I get an autograph for my daughter?’ Every single time! It’s crazy! I just hope it doesn’t change the way I think and stuff.

Which is your favorite motion picture vampire of all time?

I always liked the original Nosferatu. I watched 30 Days of Night recently. I thought it was really good. But I wouldn’t say that I was a vampire fan.

You must be offered a lot of roles now. How are you making your choices?

I judge things purely on the script. I’m booked up for this year. I’ve been doing the most different things you can possibly imagine. Every part is so different. I can’t say any of the parts I’m doing — they haven’t been finalized yet. But I don’t pick them in terms of genre; purely the script. If I like the script and I like the part, then that’s all that matters.

Are there differences in your preparation to play Edward?

I feel very familiar with the character. I’m a ghost, a figment of Bella’s imagination. I’m not really playing Edward. I’m playing a kind of disrupted memory, which is really strange. I’m trying to play him as if Edward’s constantly thinking that things are going to fall apart. It’s this idyllic relationship on the top. I’m very, very close to the surface. He’s so insecure about everything.

Well we all know Rob can’t go anywhere in public without being stalked by paparazzi or followed by fans. I love his take on Edward, I always have. It’s interesting he says he just watched 30 Days of Nights, as it’s directed by David Slade who will be directing Eclipse. I love his choice of movie vampire, Nosferatu is classic.

What did you think of this interview with Rob? Besides the Twilight vampires, do you have a favorite vampire from film?

I am dissapointed with this interview. I knew they would save Robert’s one for last, but i feel we got the short end of the stick sorta speak with his interview. The interviews with Kristen, Taylor, and Chris were really good and really got into the filming and the characters and the movie and the people themselves. Why is this one the shortest and doesn’t really got into much detail..about anything? Most of this we already new. At least with the other interviews, we got to learn a few new things about our beloved series/characters/actors. just my thought/opinion.

I always love reading about Rob’s interviews. He seems so nice! I love the Underworld movies and also Buffy the vampire slayer (both the movie and series). they were awesome! lol

  • Becca

I love Armand from Anne Rice. My youngest son is named Armand because he was and still is my favorite vampire.

The news on how wide spread his fame is was not a surprise. For some reason I had a twinge of worry on his remark that he hoped he would not change. We all hope that. It is more worrisome that HE thinks it might happen.

On top of that, this interview was obviously done quite a while back, like all the others. He has been to Cannes and who knows where else since he did this interview.

Hopefully the busy schedule will keep him from dwelling on the pressures and perks of fame.

    Oh Rob!

Favorite vamps? Definitely Angel, Louis (Int w/ Vamp), and Stefan (Vamp Diaries). The ones who feel remorse and are torn between worlds. I suppose that is why I like Edward so much as a character.

It was an interesting interview, I too hope the constant recognition doesn’t change the way he thinks…like.. I can’t take this anymore….or just leave me alone. Unfortunately his pics sell and money becomes more important than a person does.
Other than that he still sounds like the same Rob, for now, and he’s still into playing Edward.
I too like Angel, like Edward he’s conflicted.

Like BrandyLynn, I was also a bit disappointed with this interview, it did seem a bit rushed and short
What?? Rob is not a Vampire Fan?? And he the sexiest of them all, lol…. got to love him sooo
in disguise when he walks down the street, ohhhh, I know he needs to do that, but, what if I happen to walk passed him and don’t know it’s him, and then I find out it was him, OMG that would be tragic….I would never get over that , never, I tell you….
Now, besides the Twilight “ All of the Cullen boys” , I have a thing for , Angel & Spike( Buffy) and Vampire Mick St John in (Moonlight) he is quite yummy , too.
