MTV MOVIES BLOG: CATHERINE HARDWICKE SAYS KRISTEN STEWART ‘CAN DO ANYTHING’

MTV Movies Blog has just released another (not I’m not joking, another!) portion of their interview with Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke. In this new bit, Hardwicke discusses Twilight leading lady Kristen Stewart and how she was one of the first to be added to the film’s roster, why Kristen deserves the award for ‘Best Female Performance’, and more:

I know there were mixed reviews on Kristen’s performance in Twilight, but I think the general consensus ended up being overall positive. Personally, I think Kristen is amazing and I don’t think anyone could fill Bella’s shoes as well as she has. I think hands down Kristen deserves the ‘Best Female Performance’ award and I will be crossing my fingers for her tomorrow!

What did you think of this interview? What did you think of Kristen’s performance in Twilight? Do you think she deserves ‘Best Female Performance’?

I like watching Catherine, she is so enthusiastic, the way she explains things and uses her hands. I also liked that she had auditions at her house and the kissing audition on her bed in her bedroom, rather than her office or some studio, or a sound stage or wherever else some auditions are held which I think can be quite scary and intimidating, so the house seems friendly and relaxed. I think Catharine’s cat stole the show in this interview, I think it was hungry or it just likes attention. Well done cat. I hope Kristen picks up the award X fingers; I hope Twilight wins them all.
Not long to go guy’s good luck!!!!

  2. dani responded:

absolutely NOT. no expression. trying too hard. wooden. the hospital scene was both laughable and tragic. kate winslet deserves it. though being an mtv awards show who knows what will happen.

  3. shonla responded:

I like Kristen as Bella and I’ve always liked her as an actress. I think she is going to do even better in New Moon! I’d like for her to win! Catherine’s cat was funny in this video! Before she said anything I was wondering what the hell is that noise. Ohh cats! Mine makes crazy sounds too and likes to be the center of attention!

  4. Paige responded:

Honestly, i love Kristen Stewart’s acting…but of her whole career, i’d have to say this is probably her worst role. She fits the Bella look but you can tell the differences between them, too. Anyway, i’m a huge fan of hers and i’m sure New Moon will be even better.

  5. urwa responded:

definitely, Kristen deserves the award, she is an amazing actress and she looks exactly as i imagined Bella to look like, she is perfect……….i hope she wins!

  6. anna responded:

Yes, Kristen deserve it. She has acted in lots of movies holding heavy roles. What she did in twilight was excellent to the extend that fans really think she is Bella and look at her as Bella instead of Kristen. I must say if she is male lead she would have been getting multiple awards. Kristen does things in a low profile manner, she doesnt chase fame or publicity, she is doing acting because she is passionate about it and she is a hardcore, dedicated and committed actor. I am sure fellow casts, crew members and directors would agree to that. She definitely deserve the best actress award! Perhaps the only people that doesnt have a credit for her are those who wants to see her smile and be demure always even during her private times .One thing for sure Kristen has won the hearts of millions of fans!!! Go Kristen, you are the best!!!

  7. Shelia responded:

Sorry, I don’t agree. I did not like Kristen Stewart’s performance in Twilight. I feel she was very one-diminsional and mumbled her lines so badly that at times, I could not understand her. I loved Twilight in every aspect, except for Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed. I feel they were both miscast.

  8. Susan responded:

I absolutely do not think Kristen Stewart deserves any kind of award for her acting in Twilight. I am a film critic in a paper that has a large circulation and I have always retained my original review of Twilight. Overall, amazing film. Robert Pattinson delivered a wonderful performance. But Kristen Stewart? She is basically the same character in her portrayal of Bella as she is with every other character she has ever played. Sorry, I didn’t buy it.

  9. Boo responded:

I disagree with those who don’t like Kristen. The hospital scene? I’ve been that upset, where words don’t even come out, you just feel like you’re hyperventilating. I thought Kristen nailed that scene! It was so incredibly realistic to me. Kristen deserves this award. She took a character that we all know and love and brought her to life.

  10. darlenecullen responded:

Sorry, but Kristen did not do it for me as Bella. I felt Bella was so much more alive with personality. After seeing the movie,I was so disappointed, and I know it was mostly because of Kristen’s performance.

  11. Jessica responded:

Kristen portrayed Bella very well and I think the reason why people are so harsh about her acting is because Bella is kind of a bland person. So, when you’re playing someone that is bland people want to believe that’s how the actor really is. Kristen’s work in the other movies she’s done is bad ass. To be honest, when I saw Twilight I thought it was ehhhh and Robert’s acting made me CRINGE at times. Many people have been unfair when criticizing Kristen and make judgments by what they read and hear, which is always ONLY face value.

  12. kai responded:

i absolutely love Kristen Stewart!! she is just a great actress and a sweet person! :) I love her as Bella, she is just as a pictured her to be when i read the books! She gets into her characters and she is just soo talented! i can’t say enough great things about her! and i love her style!! :)

  13. calilyfsbeach responded:

To be quite honest, I don’t think it was Kristen’s fault for her lack of presence. In some ways, it’s got a lot to do with the direction the fimmakers want you to go. If they direct you to act a certain way, I think that’s going to come across that way a lot. I agree that in Twilight, Bella was much more reserved in a sense that she was just getting to know everyone and was thrust into a new environment. In a way, Kristen needed to show that and that’s where the filmmakers were trying to portray. In New Moon, however, I think Bella’s true personality begins to shine and she has much more character. She is funnier, and more animated in the things she says…of course not until AFTER she begins spending time with Jacob. And I think that SM wanted to really show the contrast in how lifeless she was before and how animated and much happier she becomes later. So let’s just wait and see how Kristen portrays Bella in New Moon when her personality really begins to open up and shine, guys. I think that Weitz is going to do a great job…sadly, even better than Hardwicke. We’ll see!

  14. TheBig Momma C responded:

I think Kristen did a great job with what she was given. Everyone complains, “She’s boring, stiff, one sided, studders, ect. Has anyone really read the books!!! Bella is all of those things. Not really, but around Edward she is. She tries very hard to not show her emotions, she studders, she trips over herself, her lips form to his, and Edward makes it even worse through the whole book. Kristen was given a script, but she also had to stay true to the character from the book. I think she did a fantastic job. New Moon will be even better because she is of age now and can really throw herself into the roll full time.

  16. twilightfan14 responded:

I voted for Kristen and I hope she wins! This is not her best performance ever (Adventureland and Speak were both amazing and I loved her in In the Land of Women and Into the Wild too). But, Bella and even Edward, are both very difficult roles to play. As someone else said, Bella is kinda, well boring-Ha Ha! She didn’t even really have a life before Edward - no friends, had never even been on a date, took care of Mom and then Dad. And around Edward, in the book, Bella was in AWE of him and that is the aspect of it KS nailed! He left her breathless, unable to speak coherently, and Bella was constantly afraid Edward was going to disappear. Kristen did an amazing job and I think a lot of girls/women fans don’t like her simply because they are jealous of her, because she gets to kiss Rob and they don’t! Ha ha!
