MTV MOVIES BLOG: ‘HARRY POTTER’S’ EMMA WATSON TALKS ‘TWILIGHT’, ROBERT PATTINSON

Posted April 20th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 10 Comments »

MTV recently spoke with ‘Harry Potter’ star Emma Watson about the Twilight phenomenon and her former co-star Robert Pattinson. She admits that she hasn’t actually seen the film, but that she’s very happy for Rob and is not surprised he is such a hit among fans:

Recently, we caught up with the sweet-smiling superstar her eagerness to watch “Half-Blood Prince,” and whether she’d ever bare all for a role a la Daniel Radcliffe. And naturally, we had to ask the star of this generation’s first book-to-film teen blockbuster series what she thought about the “Twilight” phenomenon.

“I don’t know much [about it],” she admitted. “I haven’t seen the film.”

Nevertheless, Watson said she was thrilled to see her hunky “Goblet of Fire” and “Order of the Phoenix” co-star graduate to become one of Hollywood’s most promising young leading men since, well, Daniel Radcliffe. “Obviously, I know Rob,” she explained. “I’m just gob-smacked by the level of excitement and hype around ‘Twilight.’ I’m very happy for Rob that it’s been so successful.”

And although RPattz likes to play up his shock and confusion over all those shrieking, Sharpie-waving fans, Emma insisted that she knew all along that he’d someday become like the Beatles all rolled into one. “Of course I did; he is incredibly handsome!” she grinned. “He is a very, very handsome man, so I’m not too surprised.”

I vividly remember first seeing Rob for the first time in ‘Harry Potter’, and though he really stood out to me, I never could have predicted that he is as successful as he is now.

What did you think of this interview? Do you remember Rob from his appearance in Harry Potter? Did you have any idea back then that he’d be the hit that he is now?

I love the Potter series. Books and movies. But Emma must be super duper busy if she hasnt had time to surface and observe the world wide phenomenon of Twilight. I hate when stars do that. It’s like their jealous or somthing. I always loved Emma, and she’s done a past interview where she looked surprised that Twilight was doing so well. The interviewer noted that Twilight had as big a followin as Harry Potter, and Emma says, “I dont know about that. Harry Potter has a pretty big following.” I kid you not! Then she goes on to say that when she met Rob he was a bit weird and eccentric…but cute. Yep, that sounds like our Rob. x) LOL.

If you own the 2 disc edition of HP and the Goblet of Fire, you can actually see a behind the scenes documentary of the champions of the Triwizard Tournament – specifically, Cedric Diggory (played by none other than Robert Pattinson!) In the doc, Rob made it seem like he wasn’t “cool” enough to truly hang with the cast (maybe because everyone had already done 3 movies together). There was one scene where Rob is dressed up in full make up and costume and the camerman asks Emma Watson what she thinks of the way he looks…Emma sizes him up and says, “He looks good…very manly.” At that moment, I thought, “They would look really cute together”. Clearly, there’s a little friendly competition between the Twilight franchise and the HP franchise, but I don’t think anyone ever thought that the Twilight movie would sky rocket like this…

I don’t think movie stars really care to go to movies on their days off! I mean, it’s their JOB..who wants to go sit at work on your days off??? Plus, there’s no magic in it for them!

oh yes. rob. :) i definitely was gaga over him in Harry Potter. His picture was my wallpaper even way back then and he was actually the reason I started reading Twilight. I heard that he was going to be playing Edward Cullen, and knowing a little about the series from my friends, I decided to read it, but I was determined to hate it…. see how that one turned out? lol. good ol’ rob. :)

PLEASE someone, send Emma a copy of Twilight tie her down and make her watch it. OMG
Anyway, I am glad that at least she thinks and I quote “He is incredibly handsome!” she grinned. “He is a very, very handsome man, so I’m not too surprised.” Well HELLO Emma that is another reason for you to watch Twilight and you will be hooked like the rest of us.

ahaha, i remember when i first the harry potter and the goblet of fire and when Robert pattinson came on the screen playing cedric i was like “omg, who is the hottie?” to my friends. cos i never heard of Robert pattinson before hand.

then with twilight, i was like, farrking hell, he is hotter then ever lol. i felt that he played cedric well even though he played a big part in the movie he was only in it a little, with little words. but i knew that wouldnt be the last time i saw Robert pattinson in a major film.
    and i was right.

he is the new zac efron, orlando bloom, chase crawford, brad pitt, and all of the other hollywood hotties, put into one :D DDD

I remember the first time I saw him in Harry Potter. The first thing I thought was “wow, my imagination didn’t make him look THAT good in the book.”

  • janet

ha i remember being very dissappointed.. i thought he wasnt good looking enough to be cedric diggory.. but i bet that had something to do with him not outshining daniel radcliffe in the movie. even though he was supposed to that was the point that cedric was better more charming and better looking.. rob didnt have enough lines or looks but WHOS DUMB im in love with edward cullen . both book and movie.
