MTV: ROB DROPS OUT OF PARTS PER BILLION DUE TO NEW MOON
MTV EXCLUSIVE: Exclusive: ‘Twilight’ Star Robert Pattinson Drops Out Of ‘Parts Per Billion’ Rep cites ‘New Moon’ schedule as the reason for actor’s departure.
Twilighters have one less place where they’ll be able to find their beloved RPattz: on the set of his next movie.MTV News has exclusively confirmed that Pattinson is dropping out of “Parts per Billion,” the eagerly anticipated indie film he was scheduled to begin shooting in Los Angeles this month. Although co-star/producer Rosario Dawson had expressed enthusiasm about working with the “Twilight” heartthrob as recently as December 16, a representative for Pattinson confirmed that he is no longer involved.
“What you heard is correct,” the 22-year-old star’s agent, Nicholas Frenkel, replied to an MTV News query Tuesday (January 6). “Unfortunately, the prep time and production schedule on ‘New Moon’ haven’t left enough time for Robert to work on ‘Parts per Billion’ in the first quarter of this year.”
Pattinson’s fans might also be interested that his rep cited the pending “New Moon” shoot as the actor’s reason for having to leave “Billion.” With that much-anticipated “Twilight” sequel not scheduled to get cameras rolling until March, it now seems highly unlikely that RPattz will be able to squeeze in a movie before he returns to the role of Edward Cullen — leaving his fans with only “Little Ashes” and “How to Be” in the can. Pattinson shot both films before his “Twilight” breakthrough.

What do you think of this new development? Were you excited for Rob’s performance in Part Per Billion? or meh?

I am very disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing him in this movie so this sucks. I was wondering though how he would have time to do both so I guess it was to be expected.
That’s too bad! I would have wanted twilight to give him the opportunity to do more projects, not have them taken away. Plus, it would have been nice to see him in a different role and part of an ensemble cast. I wonder how he was able to get out of PPB at the last minute like that. Aren’t there contractual liabilities- or perhaps his contract with summit is more binding? Either way, he has to be somewhat disappointed.
If New Moon doesn’t start shooting until March, I wonder why he can’t do this small movie if it shoots in January. It’s only supposed to be a 30-40 day shoot since it’s an indie film. He still should have been able to do it schedulewise. They shouldn’t need him for pre-production. Maybe they plan to start sooner. I wonder.
That is really too bad for Robert (and for us, I’m sure). I think stretching his acting skills in a different direction would have been great for him. He was going through such Twilight Fatigue Syndrome by the end of the press tours, I can’t imagine him jumping right back into it without a break in the middle. Deep breath, Robert! Find your happy place…
I’m really angry at Summit for rushing New Moon - it’s not fair to Robert Pattinson. In his interview with Variety, he seemed really excited about this part - to be working with Dennis Hopper and Rosario Dawson was going to be a real break from all the Twilight Madness. I love the books, I really enjoyed the movie but even I need a break every now and then. Why should’nt the beautiful actors/actresses get to do other projects? Kristin was able to get another movie completed before New Moon. Robert’s role must’ve been more extensive, if he felt like he wouldn’t have time to finish Parts Per Billion before March. OR maybe he just really wants time to rest, he really has been going NON-stop since they wrapped Twilight and then the holidays. Poor Baby, get some real rest cutie pie!!!!
i was looking forward to parts per billion, but if rob dropped out because of New Moon I AM FINE WITH THAT!!
This could be a good a thing for him, since he just went through a rather shocking and disorienting world tour. Maybe he can experience a little peace and semi-normalcy for a while.
Olivia Thirlby must be more disappointed than anyone!
Maybe, just maybe, he’ll be offered another great role right away that a studio is willing to fit around his New Moon schedule, since he isn’t in it that much. I wonder if he’d really rather just relax and do music with his mates for a couple of months.
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that Rob will not be making Parts Per Billion. I heard he was looking forward to doing this movie. It’s something different from Twilight series. I was also looking forward to seeing him in something else other than Twilight. Don’t get me wrong, I am a loyal Twilighter. It’s really to bad it didn’t work out. During the holidays, Rob & Kristen worked very hard in Europe doing PR for Twilight. I guess there is alot of pre-production work that needs to be done for New Moon. Whatever reason was….good luck to you Rob with New Moon!
I watched 2 of Rob’s other movies on Google video; Bad Mother’s Handbook, and The Haunted Airman, both British films. Very different roles from Twilight. He was adorable in Handbook, although you rarely saw his face. In Airman, he made me completely forget Edward, and the hotness that is Rob, for that matter. He became his character so completely, that was all you could see. He really does have acting skills, and I too would like to see him stretch his acting muscles a bit. But i think others have hit the nail on the head…that poor cast did an unbelievable amount of PR for the film…starting months before it came out. And since he was the most popular, his workload was double his castmates…he was on every talk show, on radio stations, in magazines, personal appearances at Hot Topic and conventions, then had to do it all over again in each country as it opened overseas. I think he just needs some downtime.
Great…something else for this guy to complain about.
I have some speculations on this one…
*Could this have been promted by the fact he changed his look? Hollywood and roles are all about image, so maybe the unkept look he’ll have as he grows out his hair won’t allow him to play the part…?
*Maybe he wanted to step back and take some mental health time after his image has been saturated all over the media/internet. I don’t blame him! Plus NM & Eclipse being filmed back/back…. I love him to death and want him to stick around for a while, so maybe this was a good call.
Either way, we still have Little Ashes and How to Be- which he will be GREAT in. Summer House, I don’t think he’s in it enough to prove himself as an actor, but the other two– THOSE are the ones I’m dieing to see!!!
Oh yes and- fingers crossed for Taylor! What if they cast TWO Jacobs? Taylor at first then that other dude (scorpion king guy I think?)for after their movie night with Mike… That would be crazy…
Im sad for him. He seemed very enthusiastic about it. He said Parts Per Billion was a poetic script, which intruiged me. Bt hell, if it leaves him more time to shoot New Moon then go for it baby! I have a feeling he needed some down time, some time to get his sense of self back before he re-enters the nutsyness that is Twilight. I can wait to see How to Be!
Dang it! I was so excited to see my beautiful boy again in another flick this year. I guess I’ll have to wait for New Moon…
I think it would have been good for Rob to do different movies. He’s an artistic individual and I think he would have really benefited from working with the actors in Parts Per Billion. It’s really too bad. I hope he gets other opportunities like this one after he’s done with New Moon. I agree with bizzimomma and she runs with vampires on this one…
I am bothered but I understand. I originally thought he was able to do Parts Per Billion because he would have had the script for a while and didn’t need to worry about it. Maybe I was wrong and he is now having to worry about how to make New Moon kick such serious butt due to critical opinion. Maybe he needs to learn the material because it is just enough different from the book he needs to focus. I know I found Twilight very different from book to script. I wish I could write it myself! I have the script, scenes AND music in my head already…
At least he dropped the show for NEW MOON
Not a big DEAL for twilighters
I’m very upset that he was forced to drop out of this project, due to New Moon! Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that they are moving along with NM, and I’m counting the days to see it, but c’mon! He was SO looking forward to doing this part & so were we! I’m concerned that he’ll come to regret and resent ever getting involved with the Twiligt series if it continues to hinder future projects that he’s interested in. But, of course this is an expected part of being an actor & he IS a pretty laid back guy, I hope it doesn’t affect him.
Awwww we love you Rob!
I feel badly for him. From what I read, he was excited about being in this film. It’s too bad. I have a feeling Parts Per Billion was more the kind of film he would like to do than the Twilight films. It seems especially odd that he can’t fit it in since he won’t be in as much of New Moon, but what do I know?
I know this is a depressing thought but won’t it be awful if Parts Per Million turns out to be such a fantastic film that it’s nominated for Oscars - and the actor who plays Rob’s role is nominated for an Oscar?
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the production company’s payback to Rob for “resisting” their media training.
Eh, I mean, it sucks that he won’t beable to expand his acting, but, it might take him out of character to play Edward. He has to have his total A-game to be in New Moon.
Maybe they can call that Michael Capon dude to do that PPB part, I hear he’s free….
what is the plot for parts per billion?
i really would have liked to see him in something other than twilight that sucks it would have been cool
So if Mr. P. can’t do his scheduled next project, could it mean that suddenly his part in New Moon is more time consuming than initially expected?
I was really looking forward to seeing Rob in a different character…He has said in several interviews that he doesn’t want to be typecast…we can all still see him in Little Ashes and How To Be! I am really interested to see Rob’s acting range. But of course, New Moon will take precedence over anything else!
While I would love for Rob to do PPB (his hot self singing, playing guitar, *love* scenes in the bathtub and kitchen!!!…having to fan myself here, lol) I understand why he had to drop it. He just would not have time, they moved PPB back, and moved NM up. I have read that Chris wants the actors for rehearsals in mid Feb. Rob totally needed a break, he looked completely worn down mentally and physically by Dec. I hope he was able to relax with his mates and family. And look at how extensively he prepared for Twilight, he also needs to do that for NM, he has that big shirtless scene!
He will have to work out and get into his “Edward” mind. He may be starting to get into character now. He is a dedicated actor. I do feel badly for him, as he sounded really excited about PPB but it also sounds as if they don’t even have financing yet, so he couldn’t wait. He will have lots of good roles to choose from with his good looks and talent. And we have Little Ashes and How to Be this year. We need to support him in these films, they both look wonderful.
Rob pattinson doesnt even have a large role in new moon. he’s rarely there. but i could see where having to shoot a movie in LA and one in Italy would conflict.
