MTV: SNEAK PEEK OF THE ‘MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX’ VIDEO
Last month, MTV got the chance to meet up with the band Death Cab for Cutie in Toronto where they were filming the video for the first single on the New Moon soundtrack, ‘Meet Me on the Equinox’. Always one to share the wealth, MTV is giving us a sneak peek into the video shoot and also some great snippets of an interview where the band members discuss the song and how it fits in with the tone of New Moon. Check it all out below:
“About eight days ago, they called and were like, ‘Guess what, your song has been chosen as the first single, and now we need a video’ ” bassist Nick Harmer laughed. “It was like a rocket ship — faster than any of us could’ve imagined.”“It was all, like, waiting and waiting and waiting to see if it was a go, and then all of a sudden, it’s a go and all these tumblers lock into place,” guitarist Chris Walla added. “And suddenly it’s a big machine and now we’re filming a video.”
And so, there they were, in a very spooky mansion on the outskirts of Toronto, working once again with the directorial team known as Walter Robot (they did DCFC’s arty “Grapevine Fires” video).
And though the “Equinox” video won’t premiere until Wednesday (on MTV and MTV.com), we figured it would be cool to give Twilighters (and Death Cab fans) a sneak peek at the clip right now. You know, to keep with the rather breakneck pace at which this whole thing has unfolded. And, yes, the guys in the band are cool with it. They’ve gotten used to just rolling with the punches.
“There’s that kind of intangible quality that happens [in our songs],” Harmer said. “It happened for me the very first practice we ever had, in our living room at 1138 Ellis Street [in Bellingham, Washington].”
“And 12 years later, we’re making a vampire video,” frontman Ben Gibbard laughed.
