MTV: ‘TWILIGHT’ COMES TO LIFE? VAMPIRE RUMORS HIT BOSTON SCHOOL

Posted March 26th, 2009 By: Evie 33 Comments »

MTV caught a story today from the Boston Globe. It seems police were actually called to a high school in Boston because of rumors going around that there was actually a “bloodsucker” invasion. Yes, really:

In Stephenie Meyer’s imagination, Forks High School is a bustling place where students go to classes and proms, oblivious to the fact that handsome-but-deadly bloodsuckers walk amongst them. But could Edward and the other Cullens really be hanging out these days at one of America’s oldest high schools? Or are the students similarly letting their imaginations run wild?

On Wednesday, police were called to Boston Latin School, a nearly 400-year-old public school whose prestigious alumni include Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, John Hancock and Sumner Redstone. The reason? Rumors were running wild that the school had been infiltrated by vampires.

“I seek your cooperation in redirecting your energy toward the learning objectives of the day. Please do not sensationalize or discuss these rumors,” pleaded the school’s headmaster, Lynne Mooney Teta, in a notice sent to faculty, students and parents on Thursday (March 26) addressing “rumors involving ‘vampires.’ “

According to The Boston Globe, gossip recently began spreading throughout the high school that vampires were at Boston Latin. The headmaster issued the notice after becoming concerned that some students’ safety might be jeopardized, particularly if they were accused of being members of the undead.

“I’m not sure whether [the supposed vampires] were among the student body or whether they were inhabiting the old corners and crevices of the building,” Officer Eddy Chrispin, a Boston Police spokesman, said after police went to the school Wednesday. “We did go over there and speak to some of the students and quelled the rumors that were going and kind of told them the effect those rumors could have on the rest of the student population.”

Whether the supposed vampires are as good-looking as Edward, Rosalie and the other Cullens remains to be seen, but this much is certain: With “Twilight” selling more than 3 million DVDs in one day and midnight DVD-release parties occurring all over the country, there are a lot of bleary-eyed Twilighters out there who might have watched a few too many deleted scenes.

Then again, in Meyer’s books, the Cullens had to move to new high schools frequently, perpetually reinventing themselves as students since their looks were frozen in time. And since it is a gloomy, overcast time of the year in Boston right now … nah.

Hahaha! This story has had me cracking up all day. Can you imagine thinking real vampires were at your school? I wonder if they were supposed to be vegetarians or normal nomad vamps…

What did you think of people believing that there are real life vampires in their school? Have you ever had these rumors where you are?

That is a little weird but it would be pretty freakin’ awesome if it were true. Especially if they were like the Cullens.

  • Southern_Twihard

For all that is holy, that’s where all of my siblings went to high school! They will DIE when I send them this article.

High schoolers will do anything to get out of class, now, that includes calling in the cops to report a vampire infestation! Crazy!

  • mysteriously

As if the whole thing isn’t embarrassing enough, what the article doesn’t tell you is that the Boston Latin School is a highly exclusive exam school, filled with nothing but above- to far above- average students.

  • Courtney

Hahahah! I am laughing SO hard!
I’m kind of confused though..Are these just some crazies who think that they’re actually vampires or are there crazies who think vampires are real and lurking around their school? Lmao that would be pretty awesome, though.

  • Stellarrose

Oh Gawd! That’s hilarious! Perfect example of rumor turning into mass hysteria…

As punishment, I think they all need their “Twilight” DVD usage monitored. And lay off the seances, oujie boards and UFO reports…

  • Awesome

There is seriously a vampire at our school. Dead serious. All the signs are there AND he starred in a 1966 movie and then moved to Australia in the 80s according to IMDb and guess where he came from (new this year to our school) AUSTRALIA! It’s creepy. Never eats, hates sunlight, actually tasted my friend’s blood, talks all fancy-like and is basically emo so yeah. And he’s never denied it when I asked. PLUS! He dressed up as Edward for the Twilight premiere and everyone was sure that it was him!!

  • #1twilighter08

OME!!!! that was sooooo funny i have a stitch! i’m emailing this link to my other twilight crazy friend. “Awsome” r u for real? so that means that there are vampires in australia. gr8! i am in australia!!!! if i get lucky i may meet one!!! (fingers crossed that it’s edward!)

  • Mandy

HAHA!!! While we’re at it, the Resident Evil zombies are attacking my city… LOL.

  • ashton simpson

okay, i get rumors about vampires in school, but what i don’t get is why the cops are involved. do they believe in vampires?

  • AllisCullen

    L M A O

    That’s GREAT

  • Maggie

OMC supposidly, one of my best guy friends is a vampire! He talks like he’s from another decade sometimes, and once, just for kicks, i kinda faced the vein – side of my arm toward him, and he turned away and growled! And he’s never at school when its sunny!!!

  • Crystal

    i knew it!
    …they do exist.
clearly, i AM a vampire….but I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE!!!!

  • BostonisGreat

Oh, this is great. I’m from Boston and I have not stopped laughing about this since I heard it on the local news last night. I know if there is bullying going on that is not a laughing matter.

However, the fact that the school sent an e-mail to parents assuring them that there are no vampires in the school is just CLASSIC! That has to be the funniest letter home any parent has ever received from a high school.

I think it’s just fun to see my home town associated with vampires. Even if the story is a little embarassing. ;)

  • Corrina

wow. that’s a little out there… looks like some
teens watched Twilight one too many times. waite…
THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE! you can NEVER watch Twilight too
many times! but that would be pretty freakin’
AWESOME to have vampires in your school. i hope
    their vegetarians… haha.

  • BostonCullenFan

Well today started as overcast here, but it’s nice and sunny. Better hope that they have an Alice in the family to watch for those sunny days or they are trapped in school until the sun goes down tonight. I’ll report here if I see any sparkling hot guys.

  • Mrs. Emmett Cullen

LOL!!! This is so funny! kinda wierd bt totally awesome!!!! But, i dont agree, NO ONE CAN EVER WATCH TWILIGHT TOO MUCH!!!! LOL!!

  • ZuZu

ha ha that’s when you know you’ve lost it.

  • Megan Fletcher

OMG! Your article had me rolling on the floor laughing. : P Honestly, people need to get a life! lol
Zuzu is right: they’ve lost it!

  • Allie

  • TRUE TWILIGHT FAN

For all the ppl that that sed that ‘it was me’. ‘dammit, theyve caught me’……and stuff like that….theyre lying..if it was actually them..then they wouldn’t post it ONLINE!!! i mean seriusly!

  • Jenevieve

Lol, thats an absolute crack-up! I cant believe the police were actually called in to deal with it – wouldve loved to see their faces when they showed up to find out what was wrong! Nothing ever happened like that when I was in school!
