MTV: WHY ANNALYNNE MCCORD PASSED ON ‘NEW MOON’

Posted May 22nd, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 6 Comments »

Earlier this year, AnnaLynne McCord was in talks to join the New Moon cast as Heidi, and it seemed as though it was pretty much a done deal. Fast forward a couple months and we all know by now that the role went to the lovely Noot Seear, but we never really found out what happened with AnnaLynne. Well, MTV recently sat down with the actress and got to the bottom of why she wasn’t cast:

Back in February, when the cast of “New Moon” was very much in flux, there were reports that “90210″ star AnnaLynne McCord might be joining the cast. And at the time she was both very eager to join Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and also deep in negotiations.

“We are in negotiations,” she said of her talks with “New Moon” filmmaker Chris Weitz and his team. “It’s definitely something I would love to do; as most people know, I am obsessed with vampires. I’m a true-blood ‘Twilight’ fan all the way. … There’s some scheduling conflicts, and we’re trying to work that out now,” she explained. “We’ll see what happens with it, but hopefully — fingers crossed — it’ll smooth over and we’ll be able to work it out.”

But cut to May, and McCord will not be appearing in the film. It turns out that in the process of negotiating a part in the film, she eventually made the decision to drop out. “There was scheduling conflicts and I really just needed a break,” she told MTV News on Thursday. “I worked two years, I came straight off ‘Nip/Tuck’ and on to ’90210′ and it’s wonderful to work, but I needed some R&R.”

McCord, who described herself as a “hard-core” fan of the series, said that although she decided to pass on “New Moon,” that doesn’t mean she didn’t want to do the film.

“I was [upset] ’cause I really love the film, all of them, the books and everything and I have a lot of friends on the movies,” she said. “But in the end, I got to go to Europe for two months … so I can’t say that I’m too pissed.”

I think Noot is gorgeous and will do an amazing job at playing Heidi, but I was really sad when things with AnnaLynne didn’t work out. I think she would have done a great job, but unfortunately things don’t always work out!

What do you think of AnnaLynne’s reasoning? Were you saddened when she dropped out or were you relieved? Are you pleased with Noot in the role?

I realize I am an outsider to the negotiations, but I don’t buy it. This woman is a young star. Not major by any measure. Tired or not, you just don’t pass on an opportunity to be part of such a huge film. The part would not be large and I don’t believe her time filming would have been long.

To say she dropped out to be able to rest. Nope, no dice. It was either money, or she wanted more screen time. Yes, I am cynical. I just haven’t seen much from Hollywood to contradict that mindset.

well it sucks that she wasn’t cast but noot sear’s gonna d ogreat and so will the rest of the actors. I saw the other pics ofr hte area in italy, they’re filimg it’s nce and my fantasy bf Rob has arrive din italy toda! yay!

I agree with creamy… she isn’t that big of a star and the role would require maybe a day of shooting for five minutes of screen time. I just bet that they (a) wouldn’t pay her what she wanted, (b) wouldn’t give her screen time that she thought she deserved, or (c) found someone more fitting for the part… I personally think (c) is a more likely answer.

I hate to see her not be able to work things out, but as any twilighter knows there are some beautiful vamps in Breaking Dawn. She would be a beautiful Tanya(part of the Denali clan. i liked Anna Lynn in Nip Tuck and would love to see her in the Twilight Saga.

There is no way anyone in Hollywood would pass on being in the Twilight Saga, now. It’s too huge; I am with creamy, to rest?? No… I also think there is more to the story… there is only 5 days of shooting, for her only one…so… at least she is still smiling about it, saying she is a fan, so she might put her hand up for Breaking Dawn…if they find a part for her that suits… there are a lot of Vampires.

I was looking forward to seeing her in New Moon and was sad when someone else got the part. But look at the up side…she passed on a small bit part.

Does anybody else see her as Tayna? I do! That’s a much better part.
