NEW MOON MONDAY: SHOULD THIS SONG BE ON THE NEW MOON SOUNDTRACK?

Posted April 13th, 2009 By: Evie 54 Comments »

Welcome to the ninth edition of “New Moon Monday”! Every week we will bring you a fan suggestion for the New Moon soundtrack. Let us know what you think of the song, and send us your ideas!

This week we have “Calm Under the Waves by Maria Mena

This song could be perfect for that moment when Bella jumps off the cliff, but even better this song is perfect for the moments after the jump. I could definitely hear this song as Bella realizes she is drowning.

Sample of lyrics include:

“With your voice in my head
I could fall here instead
But there’s a calm under the waves
So I choose to sink

I’m tired now, I’ll see you when I wake up
I’ve heard it’s pretty where you are
I let go
I let go”

Thanks to TAer Tasha Niver for the song!

Have a song you think would be better?

Send it in to evie@twilightersanonymous.com. Let us know why, and where in the storyline of New Moon you think it should go. And thank you all for previous suggestions, we’re holding on to them! Keep them coming, and see you back here next week!

Beautiful…emotion filled song…It fits with Belle’s thought process…but doesn’t fit the needed energy of the scene on film.

With the vision of Edward upset and trying to force Bella to fight for her life…on film, the scene needs music that would build the tension and suspense…rather than lead the audience to accept Bella’s decision to allow the water to overtake her.

  • alexis

I like the lyrics a lot.
I actually do think it could
    be fit into the movie.
    It would be great!

  • alexis

    Yeah. i agree with BeCkY.
it does fit Bella’s thoughts.A LOT.
but it doesn’t have that “umph”
for New Moon, but the lyrics are great

  • http://amybesse98.blogspot.com amy

I totally agree with you Becky!!! I like the song but the thing is she doesn’t give up due to the fact the voices in her head of Edward telling her to hold on and don’t let go or give up.. I can’t remember exactly.. I am in the Process of Re-reading New Moon.

  • Katherine

Yes, this song is perfect for how she’s feeling but I agree with Becky, the energy of it just doesn’t really fit. I would love to have the song “Haunted” by Kelly Clarkson play when she’s about to jump/jumping. It just feels perfect to me, but it’s all in personal opinion I guess.

  • Katherine

I FORGOT TO ADD, on the other hand, I think it would actually work if like, there was a song with the energy needed like “Haunted” by Kelly Clarkson, before and while she was jumping, and then once she is deep in the water having an illusion of Edward, it eases into that song somehow. I can actually picture that, and I know I probably didn’t explain it very well, so no one else will get what I’m saying. It’s like, I can picture her releasing all the tension when she realizes she’s drowning, and then seeing Edward so clearly before her and reaching out to him with this song playing…just my thoughts. :)

  • Jennie

yes… I tottally agree! This song would fit perfectly into the movie!

  • Melissa

this song is beautiful. i would love it if it was in the movie.

  • Rose

I agree with Becky too, it’s a beautiful song but just a bit too slow for this part of the movie.

  • Christina

    that song fits perfectly
    for when she drownding

  • chelsea!

    This song is beautiful
but it nots really THE song for new moon,
it should be somewhere in it though.
    The lyrics are lovely.
    Good find =]

  • La Mia Penombra

I think we need to get away from the picture of Bella trying to take her life; that’s not why she jumped! We need to get away from these “sweet-as-sugar” songs! The song for this scene needs more “life”, passion and vibrance, because she is actually jumping to “get something”, the experience of hearing the voice of her loved. The song must have drama, since it’s a pretty drastic move, on Bella’s part, jumping off a cliff!

    -Peace, love and Twi-light!

  • Alaina

I do think that this song would be awesome for her being into the water and slowly giving up. This song is peaceful and so is she at this time. She has accepted that she will drown and loves Edward’s vision being the last thing that she sees. Very good choice. I do think there should be a higher energy song when she is jumping.

  • jess

i agree as well about the song haunted by kelly clarkson i think it would be the perfect song!

  • samantha

yes!!!!!!its a great song for new moon…i also like white horse by taylor swift

  • Ash

This would make a great song for the clif scene, also “Irvine” by Kelly Clarkson for when Sam finds Bella in the woods

  • maddi

WOW that hits every point bella wants u get across with emotions it PERFECT and so bueatiful. sorry if i spelled it wrong.

  • Monique

It is perfect and I hope they go for that kind of feel during that part in the movie. They should do that instead of making it too actiony. I love the way it feels; depressing, but not sad. The lyrics work too, though i thin it is about killing your self because the person you love has died, but it fits.

  • Demi

The song is very beautiful but I don’t think it matches Bella’s thoughts. Yes, she gives up but still-it’s not the song.

  • Sarah

How about “Need” by Hana Pestle? It would fit perfectly right after Edward leaves her.

  • kathy

i like thhis song but i personally dont think it would suit new moon

  • Kine

    I liked this song :) She is a good artist…and norwegian :)

  • patty

it does fit pretty good actually. I can’t wait for new moon

  • Amanda

good song – but for the drowning part this one would work as well – love how melancholy it is. It’s called “No Fear” by Bird York – you really need to listen to it – love it! It was on the movie Seven Pounds with Will Smith at the end(in the bathtub)

Have no fear in your heart
though you feel you’ve been broken and lost
there’s a place where we will meet up again
there’s a place that mends your hurt and takes you in
    there are times faced alone
when you find all the holes in yourself
you don’t have to walk the night on your own
I will say a prayer for you to lead you on
I will say a prayer for you when you have gone

  • Babbs

I kind of like it. IT shows how Bella is trying to let go of Edward and move onto Jacob. dont you think it is kinda funny how this relates to Bella jumping off the cliff?

  • Helene

    aw

  • Crey

I agree that an intense and engery filled song to lead up to Bella’s decision to jump is what is needed for this scene. But, when she cannot fight her way to the surface and begins to appreciate the solace of this underwater world, this song is soooo appropriate. I give it two thumbs up!

  • Katherine

Ahhh, now I REALLY want this in the movie the way me & a couple other people described it.

  • Sarah

This sounds like a good song for Bella’s opinion of when she lets go of Edward for Jacob. However, the song is a bit slow and doesn’t remind me of something Bella would listen to.

  • chelsea

omg tht song is so totally perfect i think it should be in when bellas in the water but when shes on the cliff about to jump i think u need a energetic song but overall 10/10

  • shannon

I am on the fence with this one. I like it, but there should be a stronger song playing as she is thinking of jumping and I dont think it would sound right to put another song in after she jumps.

  • Summer Leigh

I think it is pretty good for New Moon. When I was listening to it, I was thinking of when Edward left. It was very sad :( But it was an amazing song

  • xxroxxigurl64xx

omg yes, yes, a milloin times YES! its perfect for that scene.

  • brittni

I think this will be perfect for when Bella’s already jumped into the water. I agree with other people I think their should be a more energetic song before she actually jumps off the cliff.

  • http://twilightersanonymous.com/new-moon-monday-should-this-song-be-on-the-new-moon-soundtrack-calm-under-the-waves-by-maria-mena.html#respond Zoey

This song is really good, i agree it should be in that scene, it fits it perfectly, i love it, amazing…!!!PERFECT!!!…

    Zoey x

  • Brianna

Wow that’s a beautiful song and its perfect for the soundtrack. Just right for the movie.

  • gaelle

it really represents that moment of the book!

    great choice! :D

  • Marte

Kathrine, I totally agree with you. I LOVE this song! It fits good for when Bella gives up fighting the waves, and let herself see Edward’s face for the last time.

  • Shortie

It would be ok for her jumping off the cliff, anywhere else it wouldn’t really fit.. The movie needs to be intense and emotional.

  • Maggie

i love this song, its so beautiful! it should deffinatly be in the movie!

  • http://twilightersanonymous.com/new-moon-monday-should-this-song-be-on-the-new-moon-soundtrack-calm-under-the-waves-by-maria-mena.html Ashley

Well this song has good lyrics and reminds me of bella…but it doesnt have that new moon feel to it and it needs to be more energetic. Basically I most def agree with becky

  • Decode

I actually really liked this song. I think leading up to the jump and those first few moments in the water the music needs to have more of a beat to it, needs to be more intense, more symbolic of the struggle and Edward’s pleas in her head. But I think after she’s been in the water for a few moments, this song would be perfect as she drifts away into unconsciousness. I think they could blend in a few lines really well. And then when Jacob rescues her, the music could pick back up again.

  • jenna

this song would be absolutely perfect for that part. like i can picture that part playing out as the song was playing…and i’m pretty sure if this song was playing while that part was going on some ppl would get tears in their eyes…cause i know i would

  • Savannah

    YES.
    I love it.
    Its Really emotional And powerful.
I think it would be great.
Especially if they made her falling in slow motion.
    And maybe some flashbacks.
    =O

    >:D

  • katie

i think this is more about death..what song i DO think would be very good though is “just like me” by paramore.

    “I slipped down the stairs
    Tripped over your fragile ego
    I slid down the hallway
Right into the web you’ve woven

    And you never said
That you meant to save someone,
    Somebody just like me.
    And you never told me
    You wanted to love someone,
    Somebody just like me.

    You locked all the doors
    You felt safer that way
    You put up a wall
And now you’re whole world is caving in.

    And you never said
That you meant to save someone,
    Somebody just like me.
    And you never told me
    You wanted to love someone,
    Somebody just like me.

You swallow your pride as you’re left behind
Counting stars to name your lies
You let the light push you away
And now you’re drowning in the waves.

    And you never said
That you meant to save someone,
    Somebody just like me.
    And you never told me
    You wanted to love someone,
    Somebody just like me.

    And you never told me
    You wanted to love someone,
    Somebody just like,
    Somebody just like me.

    And you never said
That you meant to save someone…
    Like me.
    Somebody just like me… “

  • Ginaaaa

this is an awesome song for the scene!
    good choice!

  • Marieee!

    absolutely PERFECT.

  • Emily

    “La Mia Penombra responded:

I totally agree! This isn’t sad or a time for melancholy music – she’s excited and invigorated to be jumping from the cliff. I really think that they need to leave this scene (the part of her actually in the water) to the score – no words needed here.

  • gc

I do agree that the lyrics are beautiful but the sound its just not right 4 the scene as emily and emily said it should be a more “life”

  • Whitney

I think this song is PERFECT for the cliff diving scene. I know she’s not trying to committ suicide, but she does just want to hear his voice… and when she realizes that her lungs are burning she gives in, she gives herself to his voice. I love the song, it’s very full of emotion and I think it would make a perfect song for the soundtrack!

  • http://twilightersanonymous.com/new-moon-monday-should-this-song-be-on-the-new-moon-soundtrack-calm-under-the-waves-by-maria-mena.html no.1TwilightLover

Yes. i think this song will be perfect 4 New Moon because it matches Bella’s thoughts and feelings ;-)

  • isabella`s twin

the song is a really beautiful but like other people have said you should get aq song that has way more life or just leave it to the score for this scene. the song really is beautiful though!!!!! cant wait for the movie to come out!!!!!!!

  • caroline

i like this song alot and it does match Bella’s thoughts&feelings.I think the perfect place in the movie for this song would be when Edward is “leaving” Bella. When Edward is saying goodbye and when she chaises after him.

  • blondevampmom

I’m picturing this song with Edward (RP) playing it on the piano in Midnight Sun… swoon… RP’s voice.
    Since it’s from Edward’s perspective.
