NY POST ASKS – IS TWILIGHT WORTH READING?
New York Post’s Pop Wrap asks “Is Twilight Worth Reading?” Jarett Wieselman, the author of the article, intends to see the movie but he’s not sure if he should read the books first. Here are his pros and cons:
So here’s my question: should I read the books before seeing the movie? Waiting is not an option because once I watch the film my desire to know more will evaporate – it’s something that must be decided before I plunk down $10.In the pro column – the series is clearly very compelling and well-written despite a supposedly disappointing final installment. Obviously everything in the books can not be included so I’d have a fully fleshed out sense of the universe when the movie unspools if I were to sit down with the tomes beforehand.
In the con column – it’s a lot to tackle. There are 2,592 pages of fanged fiction in the four installments of the “Twilight” saga and knowing that the last book, “Breaking Dawn,” was a major letdown for fans doesn’t exactly make me want to renew my library card.
So tell me, what should I do?
I think he should read at least Twilight before seeing the movie. Maybe he won’t find the series daunting if he starts out with one and then decides if he wants to read the rest. I believe he can appreciate the movie more knowing the back story, especially considering a lot of the book couldn’t be fit into the movie. He will get descriptive detail about the characters and storyline. What do you think? To read or not to read?
