OK! MAGAZINE: CHARLIE BEWLEY TALKS ‘ECLIPSE’

Ok! Magazine has a new interview with Charlie Bewley. Charlie talks about the differences in direction between New Moon and Eclipse, and how having different directors changed the tone. Read more below:

Charlie Bewley, who plays Volturi vampire Demetri in Twilight Saga: New Moon and Eclipse, says the next installment is set to be very different than the first two films

Speaking exclusively to OK.co.uk, Charlie revealed that director David Slade is going to add a nasty tone to the vampire love story.

He told us: “David is a master of mood. Eclipse has this different mood about it, it’s dark and vicious. You get to see the brutal nature of vampires and what they are really capable of, which is something we haven’t really seen in the first two movies.”

And the star told us David works very differently to New Moon director Chris Weitz.

He said: “They are very different directors. David understands what each scene needs [to create the dark mood] – absolute fine tuning. He might stop the scene halfway through and just tweak something before saying: ‘Go back, say that word again and I want you to put the emphasis on that’.

“It’s very controlled and when I was on set I found myself not being able to be as theatrically elaborate as I was with Chris’ film. But that’s exactly why David has been brought on board – to make this a more real film. Eclipse is going to be more real.”

But Charlie says Chris was happy to let the stars develop the characters themselves while filming New Moon.

He added: “Chris is someone who is massively organised in his work and he is meticulous in his preparation towards something, purely because the stuff he does is on such a grand scale and it was with New Moon.

Although I’m trying to keep an open mind and wait until the first trailer before I start passing judgement…I’m a little worried that David Slade might be going a little over-board with the whole dark, moody atmosphere.

Yes, Eclipse is pretty dark, but its also the funniest book in the series. There are a lot of great, light hearted moments, and the love story gets even more complicated.

Now, I’m all for the action but I don’t want that to eclipse (pun intended) the love story. All we hear from the actors is that it’s going to be a dark, heavy movie…but is that what Eclipse is? I don’t want this to be a Thirty Days of Night remake, I don’t think any of the fanbase does.

The new borns and the battle are a constant threat looming over the MCs’ heads but the true heart of the story is the love triangle. I hope that the focus isn’t taken away from that with long sequences of intense fighting, and shots of bloodthirsty new borns.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d LOVE to see the intense battle of Cullens/Wolves vs. New Borns that we didn’t see in the book, but a movie can only be so long…I just hope DS isn’t going overboard, and making a a semi-horror/thriller film.

But like I said…I’m trying very hard to keep an open mind.

I agree with what Anna said. I watched Hard Candy which was directed by David Slade and I couldn’t even keep my eyes open because of the horror of the scenes, but it was a good movie. But I’m looking forward to his take on Eclipse! I just wish that Summit would announce when the first trailer is coming out whether its the month or a date I just want to know!

Due to reading through the entire Saga again that same concern comes up about whether or not the “love story” aspect will be lost in the newborns. I sure as heck hope not. There is SO much more in Eclipse besides the newborns and the darkness. There’s the wonderful Love Triangle that better not lose out to the wild newborns… I’m a bit apprehensive.
