NO SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE FOR ROBERT PATTINSON…YET

Posted April 5th, 2009 By: Team Switzerland 20 Comments »

Late last year, there were petitions and movements to get Robert Pattinson a spot hosting Saturday Live. Now, there are rumors that Pattinson will be appearing as a celebrity guest on an upcoming episode. Unfortunately, the movement hasn’t worked…yet. According to Lorne Michaels of SNL, they are all booked up for hosts this year, but there is hope for the Twilight star in the future. Read more below:

The Internet has been buzzing with rumors that the Twilight hottie would be the celebrity guest on an upcoming episode of the long-running sketch comedy show.

However, SNL’s head honcho, Lorne Michaels, tells OK! that the show won’t be getting an infusion of vampire blood just yet.

“Not this season,” he said at Natural Resources Defense Council 11th annual Forces For Nature benefit in NYC. “We’re all locked in with the hosts for this year.”

But is there hope that Rob will be palling around with cast members Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig in the future?

“Yeah, yeah, of course,” he said.

But Edward Cullen isn’t exactly known for his sense of humor — and RPatts is notoriously awkward off screen.

So would he make a good host? “Don’t know,” admits Lorne. “You never know.”

(Thanks Andrea)

I think that it’s great news that Lorne Michaels said Rob has a shot to host SNL in the future. No doubt that he would give a jump in their ratings. I also have to say I beg to differ about Rob’s sense of humor. Sure, he’s awkward off screen, but he’s still hilarious! Come on, hasn’t anyone listened to the audio commentary?

What do you think of this news? Would you like to see Rob host Saturday Night Live, or would you prefer he didn’t? If he were to host, do you think he would be a good host?

OME!!!! I think Rob would be a FANTASTIC guest host on SNL!!!! I mean, not every sketch will have to do with Twilight obviously! It would give him a chance to throw around some humor…. which I think he’s great at! I mean, he’s so deliciously dorky…. it just works for him! It’s hard to pull off the deliciously dorky persona…. but I think Rob would be awesome!!! He could also be the musical guest for the night!! They’d have a huge viewing crowd… that’s for sure!!!!

  • Britt

My Saturday night would be a lot more enjoyable if Rob was on SNL :D
    PLEASE PUT HIM ON SNL!!!!!

  • ally

“notoriously awkward”???? He’s hilarious and articulate, And with his fierce fans, they are crazy not to book him for the show right away!

  • Heather

I think it would be so great if he hosted the show. Like Andrea said, he is absolutely hilarious on the commentary and he is very well spoken. He would make a great host and I hope they do put him on soon!

  • hooverfletcher2000

    HALE YES!
    The audio commentary is HILARIOUS!

He would make the ratings go through the roof! It would be a smart move for them….

Seeing how akward he was at the oscars, I don’t really think that hosting is his thing…
Maybe that was because of the teleprompter, but I’m more tempted to think that his shyness would be a big problem. I am wondering if he has even expressed an interest in doing something like that. I am not american, so I don’t really understand the relevance of such a show, but I hope that such a thing would not turn out to be something that he would have to put up with if he doesn’t feel comfortable with it. That being said, I love his sense of humour, his shy deneamour… but I’m not sure he’s “host” material.

Plus he might need to prove that he can “famous” for more than a couple of months. I can completely understand that not everyone is convinced by the hype.

And to conclude, I have checked out the nbc website to see what this show is about, and I believe that Rob doesn’t need to do everything that Zac Efron does. They get compared so often, no need to add to that.

I have to agree with AnnaS, I’m not sure this is the best idea for Rob.

Now, for me, and for all of the gazillion other fans, yes we would all love to see him. In anything. Period.

But, unless he can get into his “professional mental mode,” I think this would be very hard for him.

I loved the commentary on the Twilight DVD, but remember, there was no camera, he was just with Kristen and Catherine, (probably some assistants too), and for the majority of the commentary, he was bashing himself. Relentlessly. I thought it was very revealing. In fact, I have to wonder why he is in acting at all. Not that I’m not ridiculously grateful he made that choice, but, he doesn’t seem to enjoy the product he produces.

I would think the only thing that would work for a SNL performance would be for him to bash the Edward myth, and all the adoration he (Rob) is subjected too.

One incredible thought, if he is booked for the show, perhaps he could also be the musical talent. How knocked out would everyone be if he sang a couple of his songs??? I would have to have an oxygen tank standing by!!

My guess is that if he will be slated as a guest host on SNL (and I think he will – it would be unbelievably stupid of them not to try to snag latest “it” guy for their line-up), it will be timed quite nicely with the opening of a little movie called New Moon. Mr. Michaels said that guest spots were all slated for this year which I interpret more as this season. Next season starts in September…movie comes out in November. Quite a lot of time to get it all set up. I can only imagine the Twilight spoof they’ll come up with…vampires, werewolves, tenn angst…let the comedy commence!

  • Emily

AnjieNet, I totally agree with you. The premise of New Moon would really make for better jokes anyway. Also, by then, Little Ashes will have been out and they wouldn’t be able to help themselves with jokes about that as well.

I like that Lorne Michaels hasn’t counted him out. Hopefully, after How to Be’s soundtrack comes and more people have heard him sing, Lorne would really want him for both host and musical guest. We can all hope…and send lots of mail requests to SNL.

  • Amy

He could have some fun making fun of himself and the Twilight craziness! He could play a screaming girl fan and one of the SNL guys could play him…so many possibilities and fun he could have!

  • kerri

He has a wonderful sense of humor, when he feels at ease. Some interviews he leaves me giggling for days…and I dont mean just his looks. But a live production like that, Im not so sure. Doesnt he have enough pressure right now? We arnt exactly his agents.

  • edelacruz

I have to concede that Rob may not be the best fit to host SNL. You have to have great comic timing and Rob has a reputation for over-analyzing his roles…he may think TOO MUCH about the role he plays and I wonder if that will come off as stiff or awkward on SNL. I mean, I could be wrong – his movie, How To Be has some comedy in it (from what little I’ve seen), but I don’t know if that brand of comedy fits the SNL model.

Although from what I’ve heard, the SNL experience has been very welcoming and fun for hosts that weren’t comedians to begin with…it could help Rob feel less awkward around people…

  • mdazzled

I think Rob would be absolutely great on SNL if they could fit his kind of humor into the show. He could definitely do some great sketches at making fun of himself as seen on the Twilight commentary. As to all of the other comments, I think that those concerns are all valid. Rob DOES tend to over-analyze himself (from what I’ve gathered anyway) and so that could be an issue…but ultimately it’s up to him. I really do think he would be able to pull it off as long as he believed that he could do it (corny, I know, but true). And he would definitely send their ratings through the roof…

And to someone else’s question, yes, Rob has actually expressed interest in this. There was an MTV interview from back when the rumors were originally circulating where he said that it would be a very cool thing to do…so who knows…maybe we’ll be seeing RPattz on our TV screens on a Saturday evening sometime in the near future… :)

  • gaelle

OMG!!!! robert on snl! i will record that episode 4 sure! haha

  • morgan

of course! he does have gododsense of humror nad ca nbe quite witt.y woh konws maybe htey’d so maprodssy where he plays Edwardand he’s kidna of serious but Edward is palced in akward istuaiton.s like jessica or bicn hor nraodm girls asking him out. plus htye cna some ones whereh e cna play deric digogory and oens hwere he just paly sihmeslf. that woudl be sick! I love you robert pattion! and I lvoe you Edward cullen!

  • Midori

I don’t think Rob would be interested in doing the show…maybe I’m wrong. There are to many rumors floating around..I’ll believe it if & when it happens.

  • Team RCattz

It’s not Rob’s bag, unfortunately. He would be a nervous wreck, and wouldn’t feel calm enough to be funny. The whole night would be a struggle.

Now, Kellan Lutz, Edi Gathegi, or Peter Facinelli, on the other hand…That could be one helluva funny show. They’re all three of them such hams that it could totally work. Even Rachelle Lefevre has her hammy moments–and I think she’d dig the chance to do SNL.

    1. Rob has a typically British sense of humor, which I appreciate.
    2. Being a big boy, I’m sure he can decide for himself whether he is right for the show,or wants to do the show.
    3. He has an agent to parley for him if this is on his agenda.
    4. You guys are not his mom.

  • anna

Oh no, don´t ruin SNL reputation, please!

  • tess

He simply is not talented enough to be in the show. It´s simple as that even though his dumb fans will never admit the truth.
